One, I bought the back rest but when I put it up on the centerstand and sat on the "throne" I did not like the way it felt when I test fitted it. Lana is not home so I can't get the number one opinion I need. For those of you with the maxia 52, what did you finally decide?

Two, People have mentioned some give in the mount of one of the trunks, Hondaline or Givi I can't remember. The 52 is rock solid. Is there supposed to be some movement?

BTW Ordered when I placed my seat order, Big box of Givi was under my carport this afternoon, go Brown...... and good job CST. Hope the seat comes in as easy since I went basic black. (unlike some ....Brian):)

Chris,

I just recently installed an E52 Maxia with the newer "soft" backrest. To me it seems that the box is mounted a little too far forward to be comfortable as a passenger backrest.

The first time my girlfriend went for a short spin, she asked if I could move it back some.
The second time she didn't complain, so I still need to find out if she is comfortable or just not complaining.

Well, I'm thinking about drilling some holes in the bottom plate so that the box can be positioned a little further back, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

As far as movement is concerned, my topbox seems very solid but when I hit small bumps at about 30-35mph. I can see it clearly oscillating forward & backward as a result of the bump.

The GIVI is a solid mount, the Hondaline (also made by GIVI) has some play. I've got the e46 without the pad. My wife likes this set up better than the backrest. With the pad and the spine protector in her jacket she felt the case was too far forward, with just the jacket armor it's perfect.

Thanks Guys,

Lana came home yesterday and i tried the pad with her on the bike. I had the box as far forward on the mounting plate as i could and she found the pad uncomfortable and gave it the thumbs down in street clothes.

I am gonna run it back the 1 inch availible and see then but it looks like the consensus is "PAD = BAD"

What do you use the red flipdown panel inside the bag for?

My son is my most frequent co-rider, and he is fine without the backrest on the Givi top case we have. The armour pad in the back of his ridingjacket serves as the backrest.

Our Givi case mounts solidly, and the red panel shelf is supposed to be for documents, but I ride without it as much as with so it isn't a great place to keep insurance and registration papers for me. :03biker:

I wish I would have gotten the softer backrest but it wasn't available when I got my trunk and the mounting holes do not match up so I will probably never change it. I don't usually have a passenger now so I'm fine with it. I would recommend the softer pad if you can get it.
