Would anyone care to give me some suggestions for a tank bag. There's not many other ST-owners around here to talk to. I also have a set of Heli-bars set up about as tall and rearward as they will go. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at this thread Second post down, the post is from Mellow (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3544) The second post down, the post is from Mellow.

He sold me the bag pictured. I have heli bars on, which allow little to no room for a bag since they sweep back so far.

If you don't need to carry a lot in the bag this little one is perfect. It has the clear pocket for routing slip, holds on over rough roads, and fits very well. I did have to put it on back a ways to avoid handlebar conflict but it is small enough so it doesn't interfere at all with me, or the handlebars. It's a handy little number to consider.

Another option if your not needing to carry alot of stuff is the Joe Rocket Manta bag. Its narrow enough up front thAT THE WINDSHIELD OR STARTER SWITCH WIL not HIT IT EVEN AT FULL LOCK.
(oops, sorry about the caps, I slipped and too lazy to retype right now..LOL

I have this and my opinion???

Luggage Locker (http://www.luggagelocker.com/luggage-tank-locker.htm)

This is the best bag for the ST I have found... The owner made this bag to fit EXACTLY,,, the size we have between the bars... The best feature???

It locks on to the bike... It takes all of 2 seconds to put it on and lock it,,, and 6 seconds to unlock it to fuel up... But,,, the "This is the one for me" point that made me get my Farkle enabler (((credit card))) out???

IT

Does

Not

Touch

The Paint

Or

The Bike

AT ALL!!!

DING DING DING DING!!!

We have a WINNER!!!

Carl,
Can you post a picture of the super mini tank bag on your bike? I am trying to decide between the mini and the supermini. Thanks, Chris

Here are the pics. There is a pic with the bike full lock with heli risers installed. In that position hands and buttons just miss the bag.

I put my small camera and a few other misc. items in. Since I didn't set up my easy pass yet I also folded the right number of bills for road tolls and the toll ticket in the little pocket nearest my body. It's handy but doesn't hold a lot. It actually would be good to have this and maybe a tall one for when You really need to put a bunch of stuff in there.

The map pocket could be a bit larger as you have to stuff it in, but it's handy for when you just need to bring a little extra.

If I have a route sheet too big for it (5x6 or 5x7) I think I just fold it and put up with changing it out when I come to the fold, or I do it in proper sized pages and stack them.

It's very handy to pop off and carry into restaurants etc.

None of them look particularly great so either that you choose would likely do fine.

I just found a Nelson-Rigg magnetic tank bag (I think the model number is CL300 or CL350) that's a nice size for the ST. With the bars at full lock, it's a close call - I might honk the horn now and then - but it's a good size for a few essentials like my Sony camera, reading glasses, earplugs, ibuprofen, cell phone, etc. The magnets are strong so it's going to take some technique to pull it off the tank smoothly.
The tankbag made its maiden voyage today with camera in tow and I was pleased with it. The map pocket is a tad smaller than I'd like but workable. It has two side pockets that zip which are nice for my wallet and a few other goodies. So far, it seems like a decent purchase.

Here's what it looks like ... on somebody else's bike.

I have one of these and like it a lot, small tank bag (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/item.aspx?style=4136&department=668&division=6)
I'm trading up for this one (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/item.aspx?style=7107&department=668&division=6) due to some more specific needs for carrying camera equip. If your interested in the small one, make me an offer, it's only a few months old and in great shape.

Marsee Pocket Rocket is well made, and fits the ST nicely. You can zip off the base, making the bag light to carry. And it expands.

Do you have a picture of it on your bike. I have my choices narrowed down to the Cortech Mini and the Super Mini. I like the overall size of the Mini, but I am concerned with how big it will be on the bike. Carl posted a few pic of the Super Mini on his bike to give me a perspective and I would like to see the mini as well. How much do you want for yours and what kind of shape is it in? Thanks, Chris

Hey Chris, I like the size of the mini, just big enough, just small enough. I'm afraid the 21l is going to be kinda cumbersom, but I need to get my photo gear out of the back bags. It's only a few months old and in great shape. I'll try to get some pics tonight. Say $50 + shipping, so $55. I think I paid $75ish.

Baglux do matching tank cover and tank bag for the St1300. Plus custom seat. See photo of red, but they have blue and grey as well. The photo doesn't show the bag, but it's the same color match as the tank cover to which it clips on and off in 5 seconds.

Cheers,
Rob

I have a roadgear, but am not too happy with it. It tends to flop over to the left side. Maybe if I put a plastic piece around the sides it would help. I also found this the other day:

It is like the luggage locker in that it attaches to a ring around the gas cap. I'm not sure I like the "up in the air" look, but it would mean no magnets or straps. It is not priced too bad either.

Bagster (baglux) makes the best. I also have the Bagster tank cover and the "theta" bag. Snaps right in. The tank cover protects year round and is made well. Lots of colors available. www.bagster.com (catologue)

I will add a vote for Luggage Locker. Just a great product and very versatile. Every bag is priced the same so if you want something smaller / larger / etc, he will customize for every person. The system for locking and removing the bag is just ingenious and built very professional. Add it does not touch the tank, and well that does it for me. Amazing!

CRP5,

I just bought a new Cortech Mini Magnetic (primarily for my VStrom and my KLR650). I just placed it on my ST1300 and to avoid interference with the handlebars, it will have to be placed on the tank from about the middle of the gas cap rearward. It will work this way and not interfere with the handlebars or your knees. It is certainly a high quality bag. The Super Mini would work well also.

Guys I believe he has a ST11 - if so , the luggage locker and magnetic tankbags are of no use to him. Must be a strap-on bag.

I am in Lexington area - give me a shout if you want to meet up and ride sometime.
