NJ's a little out of the way. I think on the next ride for chicken chicken chicken, I may take the ferry from Lewes, DE and hit NJ from that angle.

This trip I'll probably loop through OH (maybe I'll follow you home) and then up into the Buffalo area, stay the night there and bomb down US 15 to get home.

Oh boy !! This would be a great 'knock-the-rust-off' ride to start the season.

It's just a tick over 300 miles one way, and between 5 to 6.5 hours depending on the roads taken..... hmmmmm, to Interstate or not....

Anyway... put me down as a definite maybe.:D

Anybody scoped out this Dairy Queen yet? (I've ridden through Washington a few times, but DQ is not on my diet these days.) Specifically, how big is the parking lot?

I got a feeling we are going to overwhelm it.

Maybe we should park at the Wal-Mart and charter a shuttle; run it every 30 minute like they do for the fireworks on the Mall.

I know that this is tongue in cheek. Kevin has a BBG license plate frame from the IBA. And you see the weather in his avatar, that doesn't usually phase him either. So I guess what Kevin is trying to tell me, is he'll be here. Be good to see you again. The folks from SW Ohio coming to meet you?

That figure is time on the slab, and remember that you'll have to ride back or grab a hotel for the night. If Gene or I is cooking the route, it will probably be longer, because we like the back roads. I'd like to add Ohio to my state list this trip, so if I have anything to say about it, the return route will touch Ohio and go through West Virginia.

I'm not discouraging you from trying it; you're young enough that you can probably keep up with us olde phartz just fine. :D

Well, I'll at least ride up together with you or Gene, or both. I've made the Frederick, MD to Springfield, OH trip about 7 times a year for the past 5 years, and frankly, I'm sick of Interstate 70, 68, and 79. Washington was always my first gas stop on the way back to Ohio. It'll be good to get some back road riding. Just don't get my any tickets :p: ; my job depends on it (I work for Dunbar now). Not too many in and out places here in Charles Town outside of McDs (always packed) and BK. I do wish we had a Steak & Shake. :-) We have a Dunkin Donuts and a Panera which are fast. They are on 340 about 2 miles past Wal-Mart in the Martinsburg direction (opposite of the direction you need to go, beside Home Depot). The only other place is Sheetz which is right past where 340 makes a right turn (it's beside Charles Town Races and Slots). That's it for Charles Town and fast in the same sentence :-)

Hey Gene,

Sheetz website doesn't list a Brunswick location. Is it technically the Knoxville location? 3842 Burkittsville Rd, Knovxville, MD 21785? Store #176. It sits right there by 17 and 180 just off of 340? That sounds like the right one, but I want to make sure so I'm not sitting at the wrong Sheetz waiting on the likes of you to show up.

Everyone have a safe ride tomorrow and sorry I can't be there, I wish I could... well, actually this time of year I probably wish I was further west.. but you know what I mean.

Got the bike back together just before midnight last night, and with the t-bodies all synced up, she runs like a dream. Even Patti commented that she thought it was quieter and sounded smoother while it was warming up this morning. Saw 40 MPG on the way into work this morning and 38 for the 45-mile out and back trip, which is awfully good. I usually get 35 in town.

The plan for me: If it's not ten below tomorrow morning and breakfast is in Charles Town, I'm in for at least that. Whether I continue to Washington will depend on how the weather works out. I've been burning the candle at both ends for the last couple of weeks, and a whole day of exposure to the cold isn't going to do me a lot of good. I'll get electrics before next fall. Honest.

The Brunswick Sheetz is the one off the roundabout, right? What's the plan for the trip back? Same as going out in reverse?

Blrfl Lisa and I are going up to Pittsburg to visit our daughter so on the return trip it is up to Jed and Johnie or you as how to come home, but my bet would be on them running 79 and 68 home . I figured we eat somewhere around Winchester on 50 heading out of town toward the mountians. So 7 in Md or 730 in Wv and ride to breakfest. Give me a call this evening

my friend (living in ohio, but in MD for the weekend) called me a few minutes ago. he's showing up at my house at 1:00 am saturday. i told him we could hang out tonight and then when i get up at 6, he can choose to follow us to washington in his cage or take the interstate on his way home.

gene, my bluetooth headset isn't going to work out. i dont have a phone mount so i have no way to answer the phone while riding and there's no auto answer function with my phone when connected to a headset.

Gail and I are back at her place after meeting at the Washington PA DQ for Mellow's birthday bash. Since we had the shortest ride I'm the 1st to check in. Unfortunately I remembered my tripod, but forgot my camera. Steve promised to post the group picture when he gets back to NJ. It was great to see all the folks from several states show up. Steve, Carl, Randy, and Michael arrived from NJ and DE about the time Gail and I did. Shuey rolled in from FL for the LD award. Then Kevin arrived from PA. Then Sirepair (Pat O) and his bride Annette arrived from OH. Then George and Kreis arrived from PA and TN. Then after 2 phone calls Gene, Lisa, Jed, John, Johnie (WV), and someone I can't remember showed after getting tangled up in a traffic mess coming up from MD and WV. Did I mention that it was 32 when we left Gail's and for those that had to leave earlier, it was in the mid 20's? it was 43 when we left the DQ at 3:00.

Sorry I missed the fun today; can't wait to see the pictures. I rolled out at 6:30 this morning and was halfway to Brunswick when I realized it was too cold to be riding at highway speeds with the gear I have. Frosty Blizzards are great, but frosty fingers aren't.

I found out half way to Brunswick that my electric gloves gave up the ghost. I rode the rest of the day with my insulated gloves and not a finger got cold doing the kind of riding we were doing. We even saw temps as low as 26 up on the mountains.

OK, Made it home with no incident! Other than a little chillie, it was a GREAT DAY. Annette was lovin the letrics, I managed without any. Feet were the only place I really felt "cold".

Our freshly installed Autocom worked fairly well, STill need to get the speakers mounted better in my helmet. Bike ran well, but mileage was pretty poor. Time to clean the filter and change the oil. Will do between now and Moonshine!

It was GREAT to meet all that showed up, and Mac was able to get a call in to Joe. If it hasn't already been said enough; Happy Birthday Joe!

Hope everyone returns home safely!

You're welcome! I hope we can make this a yearly event! We'll call it MellowSTOC! LOL. Great turn-out for the PA group! So far it looks like a toss-up with the Netherlands for the biggest group judging from the pics. We haven't heard from the Australians yet, nor Great Britain. Wow! A world wide happy birthday card to Joe! Very very impressive! :clap2:

It was great meeting everyone! Here's the one pic I have to add to the collection showing the leader of this band of crazy people at the head of the order line.

If success can be built on positive energy - then Joe should have gotten a HUGE BOOST on Saturday, and looking through the threads, more results coming in all the time.

Happy Birthday again Joe, and . . . I would NOT have been in Washington, PA if not for Y-O-U! :wave1:
