Trying to find out if there would be an interest in a south NJ tech day. I have a large garage (6 car), No Mar tire changer, balancer, compressor, tools and service manuals for ST1100 and ST1300. Let me know if there would be an interest sometime in April. Also have a large gas grill for hamburgers!

Hi Randy,
I would definitley be interested in learning more about my bike. In particular how the electrical system works ,how to install accessories and avoid trips to the dealer!

Hmmm, south Jersey, a little far, but I bet you get some folks to respond. and I would'nt mind riding with Del and Pan American and Rico and STeve1300 and a whole bunch a good guys I've ridden with when I was in Philly. I'll keep an eye out and see when this gets a date, great offer, I'd like to try to do the FPR from Turbo Tom's

I am from across the Delaware River, but I would like to attend. I did most of the work on my ST1100, but now have a ST1300 and could use some moral support with some of the maintenance work. And if anyone has a ST1100, I could donate some misc items (oil filters, etc.)

I am in Jamison, Pa. Not too far from Tom. I have an 05 with about 3500 miles and really don't have any tech related projects pending, but would be interested in getting together. I did just order and should receive today a set of 2 Bros pipes, and have thought about the FPR upgrade and a K&N, but won't do that until I get some experience with the new pipes.
Thanks for the offer.

How does April 5 or April 26 sound? Let me know what dates will work for all of you. Also maybe start a list of work wanted to be completed. My thoughts would be to start around 9 am and finish when we get done. I do have a couple M/C jacks.

Hi Randy!
Yes they are Honda factory grips. Was it a pain / difficult to install? I understand inorder to install heated grips the entire front end needs to be disassembled. My local dealer labor charge is almost $400! (real bummer after buying a new bike!) The dealer just ordered the parts including the harness. I also ordered a Stebel horn. I'm mechanically challenged so if your comfortable helping me out I'll cancel the install w/ the dealer and just pick up the parts. I'd really appreciate it and would be happy to pass some of the savings on to you. Just let me know what time / day to show up!
Thanks,
Mitch

The front does not need to be disassembled. Depending on the size of your hands you may to take the plastic off. The quote must be for labor & parts.
I'm keeping this event on my calendar as a possible place to hang out, shouldn't any work done.

bunson is correct about taking the entire front plastic off. I took it partially off to do some additional additions. I sure with everyone's help we can get them installed and actually work!
I am shooting for April 26 date. Next question is starting time let me know what would be good for everyone ( I am an early AM person) .
Here is a list I compiled let me know if I missed or if you might be a maybe. Also if you have a specific project. I do have access to special tools just need to know which ones. I also have two sets of vacuum gauges for throttle body sync

It would have been great fun to see half of you again, meet the other half for the first time, and learn how to mount and balance my tires myself.
Oh well, I'll catch the next one, I guess.

And, I'll be in Joisey Saturday!
Did the front tire yesterday. Had to carry the wheel to a commercial tire dealer for air as we couldn't get enuff volume to spread the beads here at home. Also, couldn't remove the brake pad pins so no fresh brakes yet. No real problem as grooves are still showing on all 4 pads.
Took a short test ride after reassemby, sans helmet, and heard a bad noise. Back home found the _rear_ brake pads metal-on-metal. Put in a pair of the available front pads so that's good now.
I'll try to source another pair of front pads before I get there Saturday and hope to show youse guys how to remove a reluctant pad pin. Don't wanna try it here as my brother-in-law is seriously lacking in tools. But, BOY, can he cook! :D

Randy,
I have a portable MAPP torch with a three foot hose I can bring if you just need heat. If you need to cut well... that rig is too big for the bike :-) but I have a old Sears Oxy Mapp torch I was given. I'll see if I can find tanks for it before Sat.

Hi Randy, I just saw your post about NJ Tech Day...sounds like a great idea.
Unfortunately, I have what I've just been told is a "firm committment" of a domestic nature on the 26th.
I would however be interested in meeting other ST owners at some future date. Moreover, I have a looming tire replacement project in the wings. I'd appreciate it if you'd add my screen name to the list for any future get togethers.
Thanks, again.

I just discovered the NJ Tech Day post today. I would love to be there but am already committed. I've pretty much done all the farkling to my 2007 already (except for Staintunes, which should be delivered and installed within a week), but I'd love to meet up with other ST-Owners and maybe do a throttle body sync. just to make sure my ST13 is as it should be.
Please keep me in the loop and I'll try to attend future NJ events, allowing for my two daughters' hectic softball team (5) schedules.
Enjoy the day guys, wish I could join you.

I recently purchased a ST 1100 and would like to meet some other ST owners here in Jerzee. Hope all goes well Saturday and everyone arrives safe....

I understand about having plans. I will gather input Saturday about another Tech day. If nothing else we can always meet for a meet and greet for lunch! A few of us rode 700 miles for ice cream and celebrate Mellow's B - day. I will try to put a list of those that have replied to keep everyone in the loop about any upcoming NJ events. You can always PM me if you need any tires mounted, I have a No Mar tire changer and balancer.
I will take some photos and post them this weekend! Thanks for the response guys!

I want to thank Michael for bringing the meat and all of you that brought something for us to enjoy after all our labors! Thanks Steve for cooking! Also Thank you Roger for bringing your wife's brownies, I could tell by not having any left to eat today that no one really liked them! Just kidding they were great!
I will look at my schedule and see when we can plan another NJ Tech Day.
Here are a few photos that I took. I know Mellow wanted to post photos of farkles, but just seeing all you guys so labor intense watching others was great or was that just educating those as they worked on their bikes?
Once again thank you for attending it my wife and I pleasure to host the event!

Randy---thanks very much for hosting this event. It was a first for me. Great to meet you, your wife, Kathleen (sp?), and son, River, and all those other STers. My aim was to learn from the work performed on others' bikes and I did indeed.
I congratulate Mitch for his farkles undertaking. He did a great job (despite him allegedly being a non-hands on person!!??) with assistance from many. I'll be adding the same items soon.
Great Amish bread, sausage burgers, hots dogs, etc. I told my wife that her brownies were a hit.

Randy and familiy,
Thanks again for having us. Who knows, next time, rather than randomly snipping wires in Michaels ST I might even work on my own in the garagemahal. LOL. BTW sweet collection of scoots you got there.
My turn to chime in. First of all to the owners of the Garagemahal many thanks for your welcoming hospitality, Kathleen and Randy you both are great.
Next, my day would not of been possible without all the technical expertise that graciously guided me, sometimes assisted me and at other times flat out did the work for me.
Randy you are high on that list, many thanks again for tools and tech help.
George pleasure to meet you, work with you and watch you work on my ST. No doubt George you are now just as comfortable working on a 1300 as an 1100.
Carl I had complete faith watching you and the razor blade attack my my wiring. If you can't trust an Electrical Engineer with your wires who can you trust?
Steve you too (and you are a good cooker), Michael and all the rest of the great bunch of us who gathered in far away Lumberton.
Finally for all of you who asked and especially for George who was slightly chagrined to see me (figuratively) swapping brakes and tires that he thought had a few more miles left on them. This is what I got out of each:
Tires
Front Z6 15,540 miles
Rear Z6 11,508 miles
Brakes
Front Ferrodo 15,540 miles
Rear Ferrodo 19,569 miles
Looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

Hello Everyone,
I'm a new guy on the forum, own a '91 ST1100, 25k miles.
Okay stop laughing... so I don't get out much, but the bike looks great!
I think it might be time to synch the carbs and other assorted adjustments.
I'm handy, but I don't have the patients for motorcycle repair. The tech day looks like fun, and without even knowing the guy, just based on what I see here on the forum, I have to commend Randy for being such a decent guy!
Sorry I missed it.
My STeed and I live in Oradell NJ, for those of you who don't know where that is, think Paramus or Bergen County.
I used to service the bike at Amol in Dumont. If you didn't own a bike and service it there, you would never get to see this place. Nice people, competent mechanics, reasonable prices, but in the middle fo nowhere. Despite all those good attributes, they went out of business.
I don't like highway dealerships; they see everyone as a thousand dollar bill with legs. Sometimes they just hack off an arm and a leg and you get to keep the change.
Can any of you suggest a more personable place where I can service the old geezer? I gotta do that before I can ride for real. eh?

Guys,
I've never been to a tech day, I'm not sure what to make of it.
Randy is nice enough to host, and that sounds mighty generous.
How do we compsensate his generosity?
What happens when you take apart your bike and you don't have what you need to put it back together? What happens if parts aren't available?
I described the symptoms of my bike to the local STealer and he said it sounds like my carbs need to be cleaned, $800- for a cleaning. Taking apart the carbs sounds like a little more than I'm willing to deal with on my own and alot more than I'm willing to pay for. Heck, I only paid $500- for my '78 CB750K
If not Randy, then someone else who's been to tech days, give me a splanation on how this goes down.

Hey Jayce...I thought I had double vision there for a while...LOL...of all the Reds' for the ST1100...Pure Pearl Red that was issued to the '95,'96 and '97 model years was/is the best looking Red of them all..IMO.Its the only time Honda kept the color the same for more than 2 model yrs consecutively(on the ST).Must have been a reason for that..like it was the most popular Red...its funny 'cuz when I used to see the Red STs' before I had mine..I didnt like it...now I think its the best color out there...Hope you enjoy yours for many yrs to come...

Very true...I only had to ride 26 miles to Randy's place...I have a big elastic bungee net.I stretched it over 2 stacked tires sitting on the rear portion of the seat and on the rear of the bike...and they were snug as could be...only time they moved is when i hit a bump in the road...and they slid into my lower back...a little bit...didnt get a pic of it but its really no biggie:D;)

Randy - I just joined the Forum and saw your posting. Let me know if you already met for the tech session. If not, and you're still looking for interest, count me in. I'd like to learn more about my '04 ST1300. I 've changed the brakes, oil, and filters but am looking to replace the brake fluids and rear drive fluid soon. Again, let me know if you have a pending date.
Thanks,

Welcome to the forum! I will keep you posted on the next NJ Tech day. My job has me traveling for the next few weeks. Look forward to meeting you and anyone that wants to visit!
Steve
Unfortunately most of my travel is work, we are traveling to Bar Harbor on a camping trip, boy do I need it! I am not going to be able to make PA STOC due to late flight schedule. Have a great weekend I know the riding over there is great and hate to miss out on the ride! Ride safe! I will catch up soon!

I am certainly up for some more work on the red devil I own. I'd be up for carb sync, front brakes, and checking out the rear caliper that is still wonky. Randy, it would be great if you could host and help us less than tech savvy folks do some more work and learn a bit more. Let me know when you are thinking about it and I'll bring the food this time!

Sorry guys for not posting! I have been busy with a couple projects from work, seems this work thing is getting in my way of having fun meeting ST riders! Just for a few moments a thought crossed my mind about not working but I guess without work I might not be to help out and meet a wonderful group of riders!
Ok How about September 27 or October 4 for the next NJ Tech DAY? Let me know what all your thoughts are and I will post a date!
Hope to hear from all and hope the summer rides have been enjoyable!

So here goes for possible dates: September 27, October 4, October 18, October 25.
If you guys can post which dates work for you we will get things started!

Those that want to mount tires PM me if you want them shipped to my house. Also if we can get a idea of what everyone may be doing that would be great! I have brake bleeder, two M/C jacks and one M/C lift. Can do about anything just plan accordingly for finish by end of day or depending on who doesn't get finished they will have to fight for the guest room! :D

Bennie, is 519 a nicer ride than the route along the Delaware? It's hard to tell on my map if there are any water views. 519 appears to go through the New Jersey "mountains" so maybe that's better? What do you think?

Let me look at my map again...519 is away from the river but as you head south it does get closer down by Milford then leads into Frenchtown.I'm not sure how much of the Delaware you will see from other roads from PJ...gotta look...BRB...From PJ you could take rt 521..its closest to parralleling the river...but still youre not gonna see too much of the river.521 is very nice but I like 519 because you can take it quite a ways further south than 521...eventually the two roads meet.Rt 611 in Pa starts away from the river but then parallels it...Better views of the river from that road..further south it becomes PA rt 32 or River road...good views of the water! When do you plan to be in PJ?
