One of my articles got picked up by the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism and Culture. It's running on the official provincial website, here:

http://novascotia.com/travelmedia/en/home/pressroom.aspx
(Scroll down and click Read More under "The Nature of Nova Scotia.")

For anyone in the Northeast with a spare week, Nova Scotia has some great roads. See my avatar for one of them.

Congrats on the great article!

Nova Scotia is one of my ride destinations this summer. Our oldest attends Dalhousie U so we've been there several times, but never on the bike.

Can't wait!

Jeff F:

Thanks for the kind words.

Before you go to NS, check with the provincial tourism department (novascotia.com) and request the "Doers and Dreamers Gruide" which has information about accommodations, dining, festivals, etc. They also publish an official Motorcycle Guide to NS. I stayed mostly in bed & breakfasts which I found friendly, convenient, and cost-effective. There are plenty of places to camp, too.

The Cabot Trail is a gem. Set aside at least a couple days for it. In Halifax I spoke with two guys from Europe who had booked a motorcycle vacation in NS and the one day that the tour group set aside for the Cabot Trail it was cold and rainy. The next day it was gorgeous but they were stuck with an itinerary. If it's nice weather you can always ride it more than once.

If you feel comfortable on dirt roads, I strongly recommend the trek down to Meat Cove at the top of Cape Breton. Gorgeous.

Ride on!

Bones. Thanks for the information. Like Jeff, I would love to do the Cabot Trail out east. I don't think it will be this year, but soon I hope. I'll get the info on the motorcycle tour.

Yeah Bones, great read!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
I've been to NS twice, unfortunately once was by car. It's a beautiful country with friendly people and a must trip for anyone in this part of the US. I'm going back some day. :bow1:

I've been asked about photos. There are several along with the unedited version of the article, here:

(How 'bout that moose!)

That's just way cool! The photos add an extra layer of reality to the story. The one thing Dawn and I didn't see on our trip that included the Yellowstone/Teton area were moose... meece... moosesssss... moosi? (we see a moose, we see lots of moose?)

Well written article about Nova Scotia Bones...Nice to see good press from tourists...especially those riding ST's :)

I live about 20 minutes south of Yarmouth on the #3 highway and have travelled (biked) on most paved roads in the province, especially mainland NS. While I am from the "mainland", I do admit that there is nothing in the province that can match the beauty of the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton.
I also agree with your suggestion of traveling to Meat Cove. In addition to the sheer beauty, it is noteworthy from a geographic point of interest: the most northern community in the province. There is only about 5 or 6 miles of dirt riding to reach the community. It certainly isn't flat but I have done this riding 2-up without a problem. If you are into things geographic (like many ld riders), I live about 45 minutes from the most southerly point in the province (The Hawk on Cape Sable Island). While it doesn't match the beauty of the Cabot Trail it is famous as a bird watching area (the first piece of land for migrating birds).

Jeff - Good to read your post. My oldest will be attending Dalhousie U this fall...in fact she is there today attending a swim meet. Perhaps we'll see you there in September.

What a great read!! :bow1:

After reading your article, I really want to ride up there. Per Map Quest Amarillo is only 2,643 miles from Halifax and it would only take approx. 40 hours to ride straight through. :04biker:
