Well, it finally happened. Even though I didn't arrive at work this morning on the bike I came back from lunch on it.
It was 27 this morning, lots of frost and the sun wasn't up so I didn't risk it. But by lunch time it was 43 and sunny. So I came home for lunch and took the ST back. The ride home was a balmy 50 degrees. YES!
I think I'm starting to feel better...:D Even tho it appears I have a coolant leak. I'm suspecting loose hoses. It's not leaving puddles but I can smell it.
BTW: Anyone wondering about the Heat Wings. They are nice, keep the knees warm.
43F? Yikes!
Almost too cold to ride! :)
(Just kidding... we're not that bad, even in AZ! Well maybe BigTom is... ;) )
Congrats on getting out...

27F is plenty warm for commuting. I've commuted to work on the ST every week since buying it in September except one week (rained every day). My cut-off point is 20F, but my commute is only 10 miles and none of it is on roads faster than 45MPH. BTW, no heated gear or grips.
EDIT to add: I also haven't had a 20F morning this year. Glad to hear ya' got some miles on yours!

I rode to work today as well. It was my first ride to work this year and the first on my ST (just got it earlier this month). Was 30 when I started and 35 by the time I got there. About a 25 minute commute with 20 on the interstate. Not bad and all, and I had a smile the whole way.

You guys have it soft. I remember walking 10 miles, bare foot, to school in 3 feet of snow, at minus 30... And it was up hill both ways....
But seriously...
And I've added 330 on the bike this year, thats real good for Canada.

Looks like we are a good one or two weeks away from real commuting opportunities here on the north coast. The snow & ice is still melting off the roads & driveways... the next few days of high 30's / low 40's with rain should really clean them up. Our forecast is for rain/snow mix on & off the next week or more..... close! So close!
Every day after work I have been clearing more of the snowpack off the driveway and willing the side streets to clear. This photo is from an upstairs window looking out on the street.

My commute is 7 miles. I do need to use electric gloves at the very least. The nerve damage in my right hand makes hard to handle extreme cold sometimes.
Not bad and all, and I had a smile the whole way.

+1 me too :)

:crackup
That ugly "W" word. :mw1:
My concerns this morning wasn't the temp but all the water that was on the roads that was frozen. We have lots of tar snakes too. They are slick when they are cold. I nearly low sided the CBR Sunday on those darn things. I had it out testing around our mile block after putting in stage 1 dynojets and adding a steering dampener.
With luck we ALL will be riding regularly in a couple of weeks.

I don't think a 7 mile ride to work would qualify to be called a 'commute'. However, I do think you qualify to be called 'lucky'.
I wish riding motorcycles would get rid of my GF's PMS! Then you could call me 'lucky' as well!
Ride safe.

I had a couple of hours ride yesterday at around 30F. No commute for yesterday, just pure leisure.

I took the ST today... I'm in sales, so the commute is different every time. Today it was 35 miles there, 35 back.
When I left it was still a little frosty in the shade, about 8am this morning. Temp on the ST was reading about 42, 43, something like that. I didn't start to feel the cold until I pulled into the parking lot. The main roads were all ok, but all the parking lots are super duper wet.
It was the first of many commutes. I forgot how rough my overpants are to get on and off with the liners in. Can't wait to pull em out and just ride like normal.

I'm actually west of St. Charles and my 7 miles are less urban then most. I only say less urban because over the years our nice country area as had all these houses built and increased our traffic.
At 630am there was frost and it was about 36 degrees. The parking spots that I usually use when I park the bike were frosty from the run off from the grass. I nearly didn't return from lunch today. By this afternoon ST was reading 59 degrees!!
I'm pretty certain if I didn't have to work taping a district event tonight I would not be home already. :)
Tim,
Update your mileage! ;) Glad you got out today.
