View Full Version : Kuryakyn GranTour Bag
Anyone have one? If so, any input? I'm considering this in lieu of a top box (maybe next year) for a couple of trips to the mountains this summer.

I haven't seen this one, but I'm looking for something to put on the back seat in addition to the top box.
Tom
I got a *really* good deal on one of these from HondaDirectline.com last weekend. It is due to arrive in mid-June. I will post a review when I've had a chance to put it to the test.

I would be curious to know if the bottom straps have to go all the way around under the pillion of it the straps could be attached to the handles on each side. If it's only 2 straps then it would go under the seat I guess but if you can have four then you could fasten it to the handles. I've got the Ultra Classic T-Bag which is a little too big to be managable on the bike.
Is this one waterproof or does it need a rain cover? Is the rain cover included if it needs one? Would it be able to fit a laptop (13x10x1.5)?
Could you provide the URL where you saw it on HondaDirectLine?

"With multiple mounting options – sissy bar, luggage rack, or passenger seat this versatile bag is the ultimate companion for overnight trips or short tours. A semi-rigid internal framework serves two purposes. It helps the main compartment hold its shape – even when empty – and it provides adjustable lumbar support for the rider’s back. Large zipper pulls are glove-friendly. Retractable locking device keeps bag right where you want it. Made of Cordura and leather, the weather -resistant Grantour Bag comes with a rain cover for added protection."
Dimensions: 18" Tall x 14" Deep x 20" Wide

It looks like it needs a backrest to keep from falling backward. It looks like it would be top heavy. Let us know what you find.
Thanks,

I added a little non-slip lining and a foam pad to even out the pillion so I think this would mount nicely on my seat.
You can see it in this post: Pillion Pad setup (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4059&highlight=Bonzai)
I'm thinking the dimensions are the overall dimensions. I'm wondering if the main pocket is really that wide. It sounds like a close fit though so maybe it will work. I'm really looking for something easier than what I have and then I'll probably sell the T-Bag that I have.
Thanks for the links. I didn't see the Kuryakyn in the subject line or I would have found it myself. However I beleive that a good posting technique is to always provide a link to what you're dicussing to let others in on the cool things we find. ;) Thanks.
The installation instructions (http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/installation/4141-24HD-0105.pdf) show a pad under the pillion to fasten it to which is pretty neat and they also provide a retractable lock for it. Pretty versatile. Me like-ee a lot.

What does everyone think?

Looks like I won't be posting a review on this bag after all.
The wife and I are riding up to the Thousand Islands in two weeks for our anniversary. Dave from Hondadirectline emailed me to let me know the Grantour was on backorder from Kuryakyn and would not arrive until later this month, so I replied to cancel the order.
So I took the plunge and did what I wanted to do all along - ordered the Hondaline Top Box (http://cruiserbackrest.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_25&products_id=56), spoiler (http://cruiserbackrest.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_25&products_id=102), and connecting harness (http://cruiserbackrest.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=126) from CruiserBackrest (http://cruiserbackrest.com/catalog/index.php).
I'll have a Stealth Passenger backrest (http://piratesk12site.net/ST13Stealth.htm) for sale soon though! :)
