Went up to Cobleskill where they will be holding NESTOC to pre ride for the guys who are riding up with me June 3. I took a couple of pictures to give them an idea of the countryside. I started out in New Paltz and took 44/55 over Minnewaska Mountain, it was too nice to want to stop and take any pictures there.
The day started out at 51 degrees, and the weatherman had promised 80’s then as per usual this time of year he reneged. It did get on up to 75 in the late afternoon though and the sun was just beaming down on me so it was a great day for a ride.
I headed on over to one of the Reservoirs near me that supplies NY City some 80 miles away. The first pic. is on a nice little back road that gets me there. The start of the Catskill mountains are behind the bike.
The next 2 pics. are at the Ashokan Reservoir, which is on one of the routes for NESTOC. They flooded a few towns to make this Reservoir. I doubt everyone was happy about that. On the June ride up to NESTOC I’m going to bring the guys here and try and get a group pic.
The third is on RT10 near Richmondville. There is tons of scenery like this and much better up that way so NESTOC should be a lot of fun. I had run nearly 5 hours by this time with a ¾ hour lunch break in there.
The next two pictures are of the Best Western we all are staying at. Nice scenery there also, and the indoor pool, while small is very nice indeed. :)
I took a faster way home with less back roads and found this covered bridge on Rt. 30. They don’t use it anymore, nor do they have a decent place to pull off for a photo, but I stopped and got one anyway.
All in all I spent a truly enjoyable 8 hour day with tons of turns and a bucket full of very cool scenery.
John, Bones, and the rest, I did this for you guys… just for you… so we could be sure the route was in good shape, taking a vacation day and having a fun ride had nothing whatsoever to do with it. :crackup
