BONES..I WANTED Post 500!!! BAH..
Bruce..Your lucky day..
I now have an air matress and sleeping bag/blanket and its yours for the asking for the low price of a Yingling..(easy way tospell it)..
Yours to use if you want to save the space and donate it to the beer..
Thanks Todd. I'm packing the bike up tomorrow evening, and if I need the matress and sleeping bag I'll PM you.
I guess Yeungling is more important than a sleeping bag anyway. :D

Yes exactly..Just bring the tent and I'll have the sleeing bag and air mattress at the campground for you...No big deal. Its queen size so you'll sleep good.
Then again I keep rembering you're a steeler fan coming into Pats territory.. :p:
Actually the Steelers are my pick this year..I really like Bill Cohwer and think he is a very good coach and deserves a championship..At some point the Pats luck is gonna run out..I say that and they amaze me every year :bow1:

Bruce if it's a choice between the beer and the tent, leave the tent. It's not supposed to rain anyway. I was kidding about the beer (sshhh just bring one, the heck with everyone else), there'll be plenty of it up here. It's only important that you get up here safe. We may not be having a pig roast but I'm certain that we will be having a bird roast since I'm going to wind up eating some crow. Darn the :cop2: . incident in Vermont.
Sorry the Good Humor uniform is long gone. It's been a long time since I had a 28" waist.

Hey we made it. There must be an Iron Index Fingers award somewhere. Thanks everyone for participating in the IIF rally. :)

Sorry Guys..I hate to do this..
I had Brian shoot down to Devils Hopyard tonight to check on the road conditions..There has been some 'repaving' in the area and believe me I use the term repaving very loosely.
Brian and I did part of the ride in 2 Sundays ago and come across very loose ('repaved') road taking a right out of Gillette's castle..(Not a big deal.we will take a left out of GC to get us to the same place..)
In any case this made me worry about the condition of the very FUN roller coaster ride/road through Devils Hopyard..IF it was like what we encountered there was NO way I was taking a group through there.. Brian sent me a PM a few minutes ago and its bad..What they do is lay down type of surface and rely on traffic for it to be crushed and make it hard..It is also slippery and dangerous for us..
A BIG thank you to Brian as he took one for the team tonight by running out to check it :bow1: :03biker:
So with that said..
Here is the altered part..(Original on Post #184)
After Gillette's castle..
15. Left out from Gillette's Castle on River Road
16. Turn LEFT back onto Rt 82 (aka Norwich-Salem Rd)
17. Right onto Mt Parnassus Road..
18. Becomes Millington Road
19. Becomes Haywardville Rd (On original Route..continue on as previously described)
Once again I am sorry to do this but better to be safe..
Thats our Prime Directive..

I have good news! This evening I bought a case of Yeungling Lager and a case of Yeungling Black and Tan, and I was able to put one case in each saddle bag. And, I even have room for the tent and sleeping bag! So, about one hour from the campground, we need to stop for ice so that we can have a cold old when we arrive. :capwin:
And since a case of beer in each saddlebag will lower my center of gravity, when we hit the twisties, blue will definitely be the fastest. ;)
And Todd, STeelers play the Patriots on September 25 at Heinz field. Maybe a friendly bet would be in order :) .

As far as Ice..The campground sells it..you can grab it on the way into the CG..Or earlier..Right after lunch there is a little store around the corner you can grab a bag..I don't think there will be another oppourtunity other than that..(Its way more than an hour from arriving at the CG though)
As far as the game..its only game 3 (I think and early for a wager)..
Talk to me in the playoffs..After all, you guys beat us in the regular season last year and we won when it counted..Bet you would have traded victories... :p:
And like I said..the Steelers are due and they make me REALLY nervous this year..

Hey I have a question for you campers what do you use to tie stuff on to the ST. I have been looking at different tie downs bungees etc but thought I would see aht you all are using.
Thanks :03biker:

I made up three sets of straps (see link). They are absolutely the best attaching straps I have ever used. Nothing has ever come loose. If you (or your wife) are not handy with a sewing machine (not the ST), Helen Two Wheels can sell you a set. Believe me they are cheap at that price.

BTW, I got the straps and buckles at a Jo-Anns fabric and crafts store.

STeve,
Since you have a short time to get the stuff, I found straps with the type of clip in buckles that are on the T-bag you loaned me at the camping dept. of Wally WalMart World, and at a local camping store. They come long enough to have extra left over. I didn't bother but I think you could cut and melt the ends to shorten them. I have just wrapped the excess around the strap and tied off so it doesn't flap. I tried them out going to Lake George and they worked very well and held fine.

Steve, most of my crap fits in the hard cases, the longer stuff usually goes on the pillion seat with a 6 hook cargo net, or adjustable bungies crissXcrossed... if I have somthing more interesting using that seat I use adjustable bungies on the top box rack. I don't have a link to the adjustable bungies, think I got them at home depot at some point... I'll have them this weekend to show you.

Steve, I put my camping stuff (tent, chair, and cot) into a Baja Bag http://www.northernmountain.com/detail/PA11360?ClearLast=Yes and use two lashing straps to secure it to the pillion grab bars. The sleeping bag then gets secured to the Baja Bag with one more lashing strap. I don't trust bungies.
The Baja Bag keeps everything inside it dry, plus it's handy for carrying wood if your campground doesn't deliver wood to your site. You'd be amazed how much wood you can put into two saddlebags, a Givi box and a Baja Bag.
I put a kitchen trashbag around my sleeping bag before it goes into the stuff sack so if it rains the bag stays dry. A trash bag always comes in handy when you're camping, too.
One caveat: if your English girlfriend is riding with you, she'll be occupying the space where camping gear would go as described above.
See you Friday.

Thanks guys all the things I had looked at except for the ones John suggested. But no time to get them I will go with what I have for now. No Bones the English Bird is staying home for this one. All I have for the back seat is my tent and mattress pad. Should be no problem. Thanks for all the suggestions. :03biker:
See you Friday morning. P.S. its raining down here! should be out of here by Friday how does it look up there?

It could get interesting if the storm tracks close to the coast...... In New England anything can happen... and will.

Folks,
I'm about 7 pages into the entire 24 pages of posts.
I'm not planning on bringing anything to cook. Is that right? I need some coffee in the mornings, and plan on getting lunch on the rides. Should I plan on bringing heat for coffee and such in the morning?
I figure dinner is taken care of.
What am I missing?

Okay, I've read the entire 27 pages!!! I'm coming! Friday night, as soon as I can get out of work. I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of new friends and riding a bit of CT. My wife and I have been to the Bean, and that's a great place for lunch.
