Tentatively, after NeSTOC (June 5) I am planning to ride around the north side of Lake George into Vermont where I hope to meet up with Greg (GRN) along the way. The only real schedule I have is to be in Plymouth NH about 4 or 5 PM. Another day of riding sounds like fun, Greg hinted at some fun tar and I plan to hold him to it. Vermont has some of the best bike roads in the NE. Peter you'll probably be heading up that way in any case if you want to join me. Eddie, Bones care to join us for all or part of the ride?
Greg what part of Vermont are you from?

ABSOLUTELY! Vermont is one of my favorite places to ride. Nice roads...

I'm already jealous. :o:
I'm in Dorchester, NH on rt 118 between Canaan and Rumney, on the north lip of the pass staring down 5 miles of twisties into the Baker River Valley and across at the Whites. VT... rt 100 for sweeping twisties, and I89 for high speed sweepers... tons of nice stuff from VT all the way east to the coast in Maine.
If you want to head east South of Lake George on 4 to 100, I'll meet you in Killington... do somthing like 100 N to Morrisvile, 15 to St. J, pick up 5 down the river to 112, and into the Whites we go? That would be an early meet... pretty good haul... could tighten it up a bit up north, 100 to 2, to 302 or 25.
Where are you guys leaving from Sun morn/what time would you like to try and hook up in cent. VT?

Wow Greg, found Dorchester on the map, what a great area to live. I was planning to go north of Lake George to pick up rt17 which is rated as the #1 twisty road in VT. But taking 4 to 100 was one of my options. Rt 100 is supposed to be 200 miles of heaven :bow1: . OK, meeting in Killington is the plan. On the map, it looks like this may be one of the nicest stretches of rt100. Let's firm up the plan as we go along, I guess a lot depends on the weather. We'll see how early Eddie wants to get up.
Time to play devil on the left shoulder. Bones, Carl, you know you want to do it :D . Green Mts, White Mts, the Kancamagus highway and bargain shopping at the outlets are all here (no sales tax). At this point I think we have a spare bed in the place we are renting (fold out couch, queen and 4 twins) (oh yeah, no privacy). I'll check on that. If we do (foldout) it's my treat. I'm sure we could bargain for another room at a good rate. Man am I evil or what :D ?
BTW Greg, do you camp? I know Bones does. Long weekend photo report on rt100 for the post membership this late this spring, early summer- I'll post a separate thread for this one.

That sounds like a nice ride for the return trip home. It's never too early to get out of bed and ride! Nice weekend of riding, Berkshires, Cat skills, edges of the Adirondacks, Green Mountains, and White Mountains. I hope to wrap up the event with a quiet ride to the coast on Monday with the wife... life is good!
Camp every chance I get. Was thinking a long weekend in the fall for a 2-3 day camping ride for fall color might be pretty sweet... that will have to be another post. :biker: :03biker: .......................... :04biker:

I'll have to enjoy vicariously through your ride reports. Dawn and I will be heading home Sunday so there will be a little rest before work Monday. We are both in a work crunch and will have to settle for the fun of Fri. Sat. and ride home Sun.
It seems the best riding will happen after the weekend then :( However I will fully enjoy the riding we will have :)
I'm off now to crank up the torch and fix our gate before the rain. No riding here this weekend.

Cool Steve, Eddie and I can go up part way with you. :)
Eddie, Mapquest says 3 hours to the intersection of rt4 and rt100. If we leave at 8 we can have lunch with Greg on rt100.
Greg, you know any good places to eat in that area. :eat1:
not off hand... will have to pick some brains here that live on that side of the river............. :04biker:

I know a couple of places in Lake George. Getting through Town may take forever though, so it would be more practical to eat elsewhere unless you want a look at the zoo, or see the lake if you haven’t. Perhaps it wouldn't be too jammed up yet. You could take Exit 23 diamond Point Road (from 87), left on 9N through Diamond Point to Bolton's Landing instead. That, or you could ride up 87 to the Warrensburg exit 24, take a right on Bolton Landing Riverbank Rd. and go over the mountain to Diamond Point, turn left on 9N to Bolton’s Landing and beat the "in town"crowd. I'll have to ask Dawn the name of the place we eat in Bolton Landing, Decent food, you can sit on an outdoor deck and watch the road, it's nice enough and shouldn't be standing room only like is a possibility in Lake George itself.
Alternatively you could find a place to eat pretty easy in Glenns Falls, though we don't eat there, it’s just a typical small upstate City, a bunch of Outlets outside of town.
Thanx Carl, we're actually looking for places near Killington if anyone knows one off hand.............................. :04biker:

3 hours to get to RT4/100 junction from Cobbleskill?... My guess is about 1.5 hours if that. Depends on what route you take I guess. Anyway,.. At that intersection is a little town that has a couple places to eat if needed. Route 100 is nice. Much like the rest of the Vermont!
1.5 hours sounds good... the earlier we get together, the further north we can go and still get the old guys back to Plymouth in time for supper! ;)

I hope Mapquest was wrong or took me the long way around. Little town with local food sounds about right. We'll ask around.
Whoa, who's :mad:ld!! I resemble that remark young man. :D

Mapquest borders on the useless. Not long ago I requested a route from my home in Massachusetts to south Florida. (Gotta drive to the family place every few years...) Among other bizarre recommendations, Mapquest suggested taking US 1 through northern New Jersey. Taking a look at the good old map on my wall, I quickly plotted a route that didn't even go through New Jersey and delivered me to my destination without paying a single toll. Return trip, $1 toll.
The Honda Rider's Club route planning service is equally useless. I tried that for a ride to the Canadian Maritimes.
And GPS? It takes away one of the things I like best about riding: exploring. I've heard the argument "you can always turn it off" but it's too easy to flip it on to find out where that right fork goes, and if it goes nowhere you may not bother seeing what's there. I've seen some great things going nowhere. The one thing I might like about GPS is knowing where I've been, after the fact.
Call me a Luddite, but give me a map!

I usually print my directions in a large font, but it still distracts my attention when I look down to check. As anal as I am, this seriously detracts from my enjoyment, consumes a lot of my concentration and as a result increases my risk. Next year I plan to ride out to Arizona by way of the BRP and continue north to Banf. I will have a GPS unit to guide, but spontaneity will still be the theme. I'll just program in the way points and change my heading whenever my curiosity is piqued. :D
Eat and ride, eat and ride. I've done it before and May 20, 2006 will be the 30th anniversary of my Bicentennial crossing. :hotpepper :hotpepper :hotpepper

AgSTreak.... allow me to retract my time estimate to junction 4/100. For some strange reason (brain fart) I was thinking of the 9/100 junction. Your time estimate was right,.. about 3 hours to 4/100.... hope I didn't mess up anything...

Nothing was messed up, at my age brain farts are SOP :D . Eddie is an 8:00 start good for you? We'll meet up with Greg around 11 that way.

Picked up on your thread tonight. I live in Central/Eastern Vermont - Chelsea, Rt. 113@110 - and if nobody objects could I invite myself along on your ride? I would break off in Woodsville, N.H., head S. on Rt. 5 to go home. :03biker:

By the way, Hanover is on the Ct. River, in N.H., with Norwich directly opposite in Vt. Home of Dartmouth, and DHMC, the best hospital in the country, for me at least. Chelsea is about 25 miles from there.

Great to have you along Scott. :beer3:
Phoenix, know a good place we can stop for lunch, somewhere in the Killington area? We need you and Greg to pick a spot near the junction of rts 4 and 100 where we can join up at 11:00. Rutland is only about 15 miles from there. Any suggesstions?
I love it when a plan comes together!! :D
This looks like it's turning into a ride... I like it!
Phoenix, we should hook up for an after work roll some time soon. I work in Lebanon, live in Dorchester. Funny thing how the bike seems to get me disoriented... in the truck I find my way home no problem... on the bike, I end up passing signs that say things like "Welcome th St. Johnsbury"!
oops :o:
Bones, if your interested in the roll north on 100, we will end up east bound crossing I91... a fun bomber route towards home for you (very few officials).
John, let's stay away from Rutland, traffic sux. Worse case we just plan to hook up on the north side of the intersection (first good place to stop kinda thing), and roll til' somthing smells good

let's see...If we meet at 4 &100, head N on 100 to 107, take 107 into Bethel, 14 W to Barre, 302 to Montpelier, 2 E. to St. J., S. on 5 to Wells River, you would have a varied ride in Vt. that ends about 2m. from the Kangamangus in N.H.
Lots of foos stops along the way. If it's before 3pm, I would suggest Eaton's Sugarhouse in Bethel, Rt.'s 107/14. I-89 has an exit in Bethel for anybody who needs to leave for Ma., etc.
If you instead follow 100N. thru Rochester, etc, There are a couple places in Waterbury or Stowe. That would also give access to I-89 for those returning to Ma...

Sounds great to me. I find that a restaurant with a nearly full lot, in a quiet area is either a great place for a person to dine or get beaten up. I'm kidding, honest.
We just need to firm up a meeting spot. Parking in an obvious location near the intersection will probably do. Let's hope the weather cooperates. :bow1: :bow1:

another option... (Paul, correct me if I'm wrong...) just south of that intersection a few miles is a huge wide open parking area on the east side, across the road from the mountain... easy target, not far out of the way?

As you proceed East past the intersection w/Rt.4 you're heading down the mtn. toward Ludlow, Vt. Killington has a huge parking lot on the N. side of the road with a pedestarian overpass to a waterslide, etc. That would be a good easy to locate, mostly empty, place to meet, I think. If I'm reading the thread correctly, I'm anticipating about 11:00/12:00 o'clock?
As a sidebar: I just picked up the Honda Touring brochure. Features, of course the ST1300 & the Goldwing. There are two photo's af them paired, and in each, the ST leads, and the G.W. follows. Sometimes things just come out the way they were intended!

You folks good with the parking area Paul correctly described (I didn't!) that is just a bit east of 100 on 4?
Paul, If we're meeting at 11, I'll probably head out early for some exploration over that way, maybe the hit the Fairlee Diner 7:30ish if you're interested.
