Hello All,

I have been emailing with IMC Electronics (http://www.imc-electronics.com/intercom.html) they make the MIT-100 intercom unit. I know we have some members in the group using this device, because this is where I found out about it.

My question is can anyone start a group buy, or are there Administrator types that run them?

If anyone is curious here is what I'm looking at.

Specs (from IMC web page)
----------------------------------------------------
MIT 100
Motorcycle intercom for closed & open / flip up helmet
- Multi function box including 12V power connector
- 4 helmet kits with coiled extention cord
(2 for closed and 2 for open / flip up helmet)
- 3.5mm audio connection cable
(for use with walkman, MP3 player, CD etc..)
- 2.5mm stereo plug for mobile phone
- Waterproof PTT for two way FRS radio
(3.5mm stereo connector)
CAN $249 ( USD$ 199)
----------------------------------------------------

I asked IMC a few extra questions via email:
----------------------------------------------------
> Does the MIT-100 device support stereo sound for all inputs or just some; and if so which ones?
> Does the PTT activates the FRS radio and overrides all other inputs?
> When PTT is inactive is the priority voice, cell, then music?
> Will this device support a CB radio instead of an FRS?
> I would like a list of supported cell phones and radio devices?

IMC responded:
----------------------------------------------------
"1. MUSIC WILL BE HEARD IN STEREO.
2. YOU CAN TALK OVER THE MUSIC OR TALK CLEARLY WITHOUT MUSIC.
TO TALK WITHOUT MUSIC YOU PUSH PTT BUTTON.
MUSIC IS COMING DOWN AND 10 - 15 SECONDS LATER MUSIC IS COMING UP AGAIN.
3. WHILE THE CELL IS IN USE, MUSIC IS COMING DOWN AND UP AGAIN AFTER FINISHING CELL.
THE PASSENGER CAN'T HEAR AND SPEAK ON THE CELL.
4. IF YOU PUSH PTT BUTTON, MUSIC COMES DOWN. AND FRS HAS MORE PRIORITY THAN CELL.
5. PTT DOESN'T MAKE THE DIFFERENCE OF INTERCOM.
THE PASSENGER CAN'T HEAR AND SPEAK OVER THE FRS."

"WE ARE USING 2.5MM PLUG FOR CELL.
SO MOST CELLS ARE COMPARATIBLE TO MIT 100.
BUT SOME SPECIAL MODELS LIKE NOKIA ISN'T COMPARITABLE. "

"WE CAN OFFER 10% D/C( $ 180) FOR 5 - 15 UNITS, 15 % D/C( $ 170) FOR 16 - 20 UNITS AND 20% D/C ( $ 160) FOR OVER 21 UNITS."
----------------------------------------------------

These items would ship from Canada for an estimated $20.

 Again, before anyone gets too excited I'm asking who runs group buys? If the answer is me; then I need to ask IMC a few more questions about taking credit cards and shipping to N different addresses.

I'm running the MIT-100 and I have now hooked up and run multiple music inputs, a Nokia 3589i cellphone with a 2.5mm plug, an Audiovox FRS/GMRS radio, and a Midland Handheld CB.

I am very happy with the unit for the price but I don't have anything to compare it to either so maybe I don't know what I'm missing. I think that it is a great unit and I'm happy I was able to get something for $200 that fits all my needs.

If you need any more info and need some questions answered let me know. Looks like you got your answer from the IMC team. Although their English is a little broken they are very easy to work with and very nice people. I met two of them at the Chicago show and they were both very helpful.

Thanks for the post Curt; I guess this isn't a popular product in the forum!

I'm leaning hard toward buying this product in the near future; so I might ping you for some install tips. If that is OK?

Curt, do you ever ride 2 up so have experience with the MIT 100 intercom function? Is it one or the other for the frs/cb or can they be used at the same time?

Nik, I am considering this unit as well. Although it does not sound like the group buy discount will be worth it.

I don't ride two up and that brings up a good point that I haven't tested that. I believe that the intercom is VOX and is overidden but the cellphone so you don't need push to talk for the intercom.

You can use the CB/FRS with push to talk and VOX with the intercom. Guess I need to find a willing passenger to test all that.

Just a note hear, the more I use this unit the more I like it. Personally you can buy other units and try them out but for $200 I'm convinced this unit will perform as well if not better than anything else you'll buy for the same price.

I don't know if it can beat autocom or baehr but I'll tell you I've been impressed with this unit and it looks like you'll spend a lot more to get a compariable unit from one of the bigger manufacturers.

It's the best bang for the buck IMHO.

Curt,

Did you ever get a chance to test your MIT-100 with a passenger?

Nik

Sorry I have not. If it performs like mine though I'm sure it's no issue but a test is in store. I don't have a headset mounted in another helmet and I don't have a riding partner right now.

Sorry but if I do I can post the results.

OK, I emailed with Marco from IMC Electronics.

They are willing to work a group buy per Marco's message, included here:

---------------------------------------
We are willing to handle each purchase but via our website, not via telephone and we can ship each unit directly to the buyer.

To clarify everything we recommend to use our website to place an order. After closing the group buy event, please give me the name list of the buyers and please ask them to visit our website, www.imc-electronics.com and place an order.

How to place an order.
1 In our website there is menu “Go to buy”( orange cooler)
2. Click “Go to buy"
3. Select “MIT 100” and NBR of QTY and click “Next” (Price for you guys will be different).
4. Fill up the requirements.
5. Write down “Group purchase ST-Owner.com” in comments and click “Send”
6. Do not mention card details.
7. We will call them to settle payment.

Please advise when you will start and close this event. Thanks.

So, that said I still don't know if some "Admin" type on this group needs to be involved or do these things just start on their own.

Either way it looks like the terms are established, except for a close date, all we need is enough interest. (at least five)

I am a little late in this game, did the close date ever get established. Looked at these units as well. All I want is intercom with mabe FRS for bike to bike later. The pokes and jabs of dear wifey just don't cut it any more.

Brian, this group buy never got off the ground. There is was an Autocom buy that I think is closed. There was also a Starcom buy suggested but I don't know the status of that.

Cheers.

The MIT is in my price range the Autocom is not, Emailed Marcos and it looks like the MIT30 will do every thing that I want(mainly intercom) Escort should plug in where there is a music input, 200 bucks Canadian as opposed to damm near 600.00
Tried one at the Vancouver bike show a couple of years ago, now I realize that it is not real world situation but it worked real nice there.

If we can get 5 buyers I'll open up my conversation with IMC again!

Yes, I'm still interested. Like Brian, I think the AutoCom is a little steep. I'd rather spend those dollars on a seat.

Hi, thanks for all your great gear posts

wondering if you anyone has used the intercom on your mit 100
sure sounds like it is a better deal than the autocom but if the vox is junk on the intercom, which is my primary need, then I guess I have to spend the $ on the autocom. You might like this site to hear the comparison with starcom and others...you can hear the autom vox works! The others have lots of wind noise.

If you can share any comments about a mit system with a passenger, that would help me decide and I would be happy to be in a mit group buy if that helps, altho I think i only need a MIT-30

Do we have 5 now?

I would like to get cofirmation from the following members, if you are willing to pony up cash and buy these things:

1. CaptRedHawk
2. BrianB
3. Pred8tor
4. 2 many wheels

and of course myself Niknine, I'm in.

I have a 3589i and it can use the 2.5mm jack that comes with the IMC. I'm guessing though you have the stupid proprietary connector. I have seen adaptors for it that adapt that connector to a 2.5mm jack.

I am probably not interested, unless I get more feedback from a user. I called Sierra elecrtonics, a dealer for this product, and they told me that the mit 30/100

http://www.sierra-mc.com/products.asp?id=160

was a great product but I would absolutely have passenger mic wind noise and there was no adjustment to mute or turn it down. My primary need is intercom.

They suggested a j and m product... I am not willing to pay $400+ for an intercom with the autocom deal... so I am just waiting till I see some products out there, will decide later.

Thanks!

Hi Curt,
I found a 2.5mm adapter for $8.00, so I ordered one. When it comes in perhaps we could get together somewhere and you could give me a basic 101 orientation on "beginner farkelizing". If my phone works on your system, I'm sold. I'd love to see how you tapped into the electric system, mounted your stuff etc....So far I put on grip puppies and a throttle lock. My wish list is hundreds of dollars over my budget, oh well..... charge it!

Great lead on this purveyor! With shipping only $8.95, it's almost as good as the group buy price without the hassels! (Total of $7.95 more). And they are located in the US (Ohio). If I buy, this is the route I'm going. Thank you.

Near as I can tell we've got:

2 Yes
1 No
2 Maybe

so I doubt this will happen. I'll give it another few days.

I think we are done here. I don't see this taking off. I hope to order next week, so maybe late August I'll have some feedback to post here.

Cheers!
