I'm in if at all available.
We seem to have more folks at the southern end of the state and we could pick up the FL panhandle folks having further south (LA). If we pick some place with 'moonshine' potential and good surrounding rides, we might pick up a good group. I would prefer it not on a holiday weekend, but a few week notice works.
Any of the state park areas with camping and cottages would do.
There also some 'mom and pop' motels that are motorcycle friendly that we could fill up.
So I guess we need to determine
1. when
2. where
3. what do we want to do.
The gathering of the Guard (PGR) had the get together in Mobile last year and it is Huntsville this year. So if we started BamaSToc we could plan it to rotate around the 'four corners' of the state over the next few years.

I like the Little River Canyon area, as there is a ton of great riding to be had in the area. I'll see if I can find some pics., and we'll toss around date ideas. October might not be a bad idea, but November is cutting into deer season and it's getting colder. August might not be too bad either. Of course, I'm off work in June and July and those are good too. It's hard deciding when and where to go when you just have soooo much time off work. :crackup

I wouldn't have made it last year if it hadn't coincided with Vintage Days at Barber. That is a major draw for out of state folks plus the weather was still good for camping. It is the same time this year - third weekend in October.

We could stay up on Mt Cheaha this time. Not too far from Barber's Museum. Might be some good rides in that area.

True. That is a great area as well with camping and rooms, but I bet those rooms are $$$. Then again, there might be some hotels cheaper around there.

Here's the rate sheet for Cheaha, not as bad as I expected.

So....Who's with me here??? Lets kick around some ideas.
Keep me on your list of folks in the area...Foley/Pensacola. The Goldwing folks and the Alabama BMW Owners camp in Gulf Shores at the park underneath the Intracoastal Bridge. There's the ferry boat from Ft. Morgan that crosses Mobile Bay (Damned the torpedos...). Great food and sights around Bayou LaBatre (shrimp boats ala Forrest Gump).
45 minutes north of here are some very historic places and great roads. Our Oasis Breakfast Club just did a little ride that covered some of Andrew Jackson's march/Creek Indian conflicts/Chief Red Eagle's grave site....

I am in Columbus, GA, but am up for it, any time, anywhere. If I ride to Alabama from Georgia, doesn't that mean that the average IQ increases in both states??? :4is:

My October calendar is blank so far, and I could do the museum again, but it isn't a trip killer if I don't get there.

If ya do, see whats available hotel and camping wise. I personally like both places and thing we need further discussion to decide on which one we'd like to make the official location.
Maybe, I'll make a poll. :D

I was over there in April 07 with the AlaBeemers...we camped in Gulf Shores, rode to Ft. Morgan and took the ferry to Dauphin Island. Over the bridge and took a left in Alabama Port and visited Bayou LaBatre. Many of the boats were in dock.
What's the name of the really famous southern cooking restaurant?...the one that is so famous that I can't remember the name :o:

Is there a "Mary's".....? It's the one that the President would visit if he were in BLB.

There used to be a Mary's Old French Inn, I've only eaten there once and it was great. Wonder if it's still there?
Looked it up and it looks like it might still be there, check this out: http://marymahoneys.com/

I have been riding Lookout Mountain, which is between Desoto State Park and Chattanooga and it is beautiful territory.....we stayed near there this time last year at
CampSTOC (Cloudland Canyon State Park, Trenton Ga).
This area is about 2 hours from Birmingham, so Barber Museum is relatively close and Chattanooga and NW Ga. are
cool in the opposite direction....I voted for Desoto.....
Yes brothers I did get a tent in between 17K miles last year..
....really been havin fun on my new scooter....er I mean
Fire Breathing Dragon.

Yeah...I agree that is a nice area as well, plus there's a ton of eateries in historic downtown Chattanooga.

Are you guys considering Chattanooga? I mean, they moved TexSTOC out of Texas, are you going to follow suit and move BamaSTOC out of Alabama?

Good point Kooter. I think he was referring to Desoto State Park in AL where Chattanooga just happens to not be too far away. One reason I kind of discouraged Fall Creek Falls was because it was in TN, and we'd have to change the name to TNSToc. LOL

The website says it should be open in the Fall with a remodeled campground and new bath facilities.
Hope So!
