BamaSToc 2008 should be held at Cheaha, Little River Canyon area, or other?

I like both areas:

Cheaha:

Shuey and I made our way over during the 2007 BamaSToc. Here are a few of the photos:

Here are some shots from my recent trip to Fall Creek Falls and Little River Canyon:

The Fall Creek Falls area is really nice, but I guess we'd have to call it TNSToc if we held it there. LOL

Desoto State Park campground is being renovated and should be open in October. Here's the press release:

http://www.alapark.com/press/release.cfm?ID=573

I think this is the park closest to Little River, am I right?

Yeah: http://www.nps.gov/liri/planyourvisit/upload/backcountrynew.pdf

You are correct.

I'm up for either place....we're far enough away that a few more hours on the road "ain't nothin' but a thang."

I will be at Barber's in October for the Vintage Weekend...when are we leaning toward having it?

I liked that area around Oak Mountain, but I thought we'd change it up this year. I know a lot of folks want to do the Barber thing, but I think the other locations would offer more scenic riding opportunities. I still haven't voted in my own poll because I can't make up my mind. Both locations are great. :03biker:

I finally voted on Little River Canyon area, but I'm still flexible. It does look like the majority likes that idea so far though. Let's see if we can set something in concrete over the next couple of weeks.

It looks like Little River Canyon is the unanimous winner, and I am very happy about that, as it provides some great riding and isn't too far from B'ham, 96 miles to be exact. Here is a look at some of the scenic roads that we'll be taking:

Now, all we need to do is work out where the official hotel/camping location will be. I'll work on that later. For now, let iron out a date that we can all live with.

Here is the link for accommodations: http://www.desotostatepark.com/

While the campground is closed for renovations, they cabins and chalets are available. Cabins will accommodate 3 as will the chalets, but the chalets are a bit more than the cabins.

Cabins run: $85.00
Chalets run: $115.00

The cabins have screen porches, and I'm wondering what we couldn't set up a camper or two on the porch without too much issue, perhaps even in the back yard if need be. If there is only going to be 10 to 15 of us, this wouldn't be a bad option. They also have a motel inside the park.

Great choice and only 641 miles from home , closer than Moonshine with hopefully better weather !! When is TORNADO season ?? I guess Lisa and I need a Chalet to share with others, tell Eddie he can have one of the extra beds if he wants it

Tornado season is generally March through August, although tornadoes can occur at any time of the year. They tend to occur in the afternoons and evenings: over 80 percent of all tornadoes strike between noon and midnight. I can almost guarantee it won't be as cold as it was in Moonshine. LOL

Yep...and I'll put you in charge of ghost stories around the campfire. Who wants to be in charge of marsh mellows for the S'mores? :crackup
