When I first bought my '03 ST1300, I installed the accessory knee pads (the ones that protect the fairing from my 36" inseam legs).

Anyway, now I've bought the fairing deflectors and want to take the knee pads off.

Any suggestions on how to do this cleanly?

Thanks.

nik: - probably the easiest way that i would try would be to pull back from the top just a bit and squirt some WD-40 with the nozzle across the width of the pad and let it soak for a few minutes. It wont damage the paint and will release the backing glue from the pad and the fairing - might take a couple of applications, depending on how far down the WD runs. After the pad is off, you can clean up all the residue glue and reapply some polish, Should look like they have never been there

You may want to heat them with a heat gun. I know when we remove graphics from dirt bikes, heating them helps. Heat them slowly (don't melt) and continue to heat as you slowly peel them off.

Just make sure if you heat it up, my preferred way, that the tank is empty. If there is gas there it will disipate the heat and the adhesive will never get hot enough to allow the pads to come off.

Get an edge on it and pull slowly on a warm day with the bike sitting in the sun for a while. That's all I had to do. I wanted to put mine back on once I installed the magknight tank protector and it worked fine. I stuck then over the magknight and all is good.

Thanks for the advice, I likely try a combination of sun heat, heat gun, and WD40; just to cover all the bases.

NOTE: I am referring to the knee pads on the fairing not the tank protector pads; if that changes anyone’s advice please let me know.

Thanks again to all, I'll get started on this when the fairing deflectors arrive.

Cheers.

Don't use a heat gun, come on over and park out in the drveway... it will get hot enough... (supposed to be over 110F on Sunday). ;)

Hey crazyks do you have any pics of what your bike looks like with the knee pads on the mag-knight. I am waiting for my mag-knight to arrive and I hadnt thought about putting my knee pads on the tank bra.
