We have a rider who has lost the key to unlock his Fuel tank!!! He,,, if I got the story right,,,

:::::realize if you will terry thinks the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor:::::

He had changed his tank lock because of a problem which made the Tank use a different key... On the road here??? SHAZZAM!!! The key slips off the key ring and,,, he can now not unlock the tank!!!

He is setting near a Honda Dealer tonight... A local Dealer here said he could have a Tank Cap/Lock and keys ((($122))) shipped but takes a week... I asked how much to make it next day??? He said $75 additional maybe but they would not know how much till it showed up??? I smell :bsflag:

I have a VERY good locksmith but he was already closed when I got the call...

What I need from you,,, the viewing public???

Anyone have a gas cap/lock WITH,,, keys that would get this motorist in distress here and back???

He said if he knew he would have a replacement he would destroy the lock and Duct Tape it to get here... But,,, he wants to know he has a fix if he goes ahead and come...

So,,, you of the Spare Parts...

The owner of a trashed bike...

Step up and lets get an idea if we get the call,,, we can deliver!!! :bigpop:

Sorry, can't help. I have an inoperable 1100 in the garage - thought it was worth asking.

The dealer not knowing the shipping charges isn't BS. When you need to overnight something, the dealer has to wait till Honda finds the warehouse it's in, packages it up, and sends it. Factory Honda won't tell the dealer what the overnight fee is. Working at a dealer, we agree it's BS on their part. The $75. is a pretty good average though for what it ends up costing.

I still say stick a BFS (Big F Screwdriver) in the slot and twist. The accessory locks are crap anyway.

My opinion,

I'm tellin' you guys, I have seen it with my eyes here at the campground. A locksmith was able to cut a key by looking through the car window at keys that were inside the car. Have Maureen send fax a picture of the key and any locksmith should be able to cut you a new one.

Terry, Even if someone has one that Steve could take once he got to you, he'd DESTROY his tank trying to remove the damaged one that's on there now. I went out to the garage last night and explored his options and there are NONE without turning the barrel of the lock. If a locksmith can't make a copy.... I'm with George. Get a big F'in screwsriver and turn that puppy. I don't know if it'll work, but I'm almost certain that the fax/lockmith idea will work.

I have no idea way anyone would have a spare gas lock and key to match, but I'll bet this guy is glad you do.

What a great group of people.
