Installed (?) the Heli Bar risers on my 2005 ST1300. It was a horrible experience.

The threads were not correctly milled. The bolts would not fit (they were not cross threaded) and I had to put grease on them to force them to fit. I ended up stripping one of the bolts in the process.

The bars did not seem to fit on the riser correctly.

The whole experience sucked ... For lack of a better phrase. And yes they did send me the right riser.

I don't know how I'll fix the stripped bolt. F heli. Their quality (?) control could be better. I guess I'll have to have a friend tap it for me and find a new bolt.

PS: Yes I used a torque wrench, but it didn't matter since I had to force the bolts just to get the bars to fit.

I would NOT recommend this company.

On a positive note, the bars are more comfortable.

??? Mine went on in little time with zero trouble. Everything fit and lined up fine. I wonder if you received a defective riser set?

It's probably best to helicoil the stripped hole.

HELIcoil: Maybe that's how the risers got their name. :D

Sorry you had a bad experience... it always sux when an install doesn't go as planned... When I put the Helis on the ST I didn't have any problems.

I'd give them a call and have them replace it... I would hope they wouldn't have a problem with it given the circumstances... This is the first bad Heli-bar install I've heard of.

At least you are satisfied with the position.

Mine went on without a problem. I did have to make sure the bolts were placed properly. My rule is never force bolts that don't want to go in. It is a sure indication of a problem for the bolts to not line up or twist in properly. Hope you get it worked out, give the Heli folks a call and I bet they will work with you.
