Anyone tried the Rifle ? At 180 its not Cheap but I think they may have the answer I need.

The more I look at it the more I am sure that the Stock Shield and the CB have the Same problem.

They are too FLAT. The curvature is insufficient to prevent "wingtip vortices" and the air is wraping around the rider.

Points of Reference - I'm 6'2 , 290 lbs, 32 in inseam

I moved the windshield from it's factory installed position to the upper position.

At 2/3 to 3/4 up its about the same position as stock and I'm getting pushed forward a good bit.

At Full up , with a Gaping hole now showing at the bottom of the shield , the back pressure has diminished noticeably.

Point of interest - I'm fairly broad shouldered. With the shield mostly up, hands on the grips , I getting shoulder plastered pretty good. I take my hand off the right grip, set the Cruise, put my hand on the fuel cap and the buffeting TOTALLY disappears.

So Rifle offers a wider option also, it also has a stronger curvature. I'll be talking with them in the coming weeks.

How do you know the rifle has a stronger curvature? Looking at the pics of the "T" windshield on the Rifle site it looks similar to my +6W CB.

"wingtip vortices"... a bit of a stretch don't you think.

My calibrated eyeballs :) , It just looks to me to have more of a roll off at the edges.

I really wish we could get a good down angle shot of these puppies. Would solve some of this speculation.

Don't tell me you think "Wingtip Vortices" dont happen on these things ?

What do you mean Stretch ? ANY flat body moving through fluid , in this case air is the fluid, causes a vortex. That's a fact. I do Wind tests all the time.

So , No it's not a stretch.

My Opinion???

If the Rifle is made out of the same material as the one I had on the Concours it is far more likely to "Star Split" at the bolt holes,,, and shimmy compared to a Mark Lawrence shield or others...

The Rifle is about a 1/3 as thick and is not made of the same material either... Marks Shield is almost bullet proof!!!

I am the same height,,, same inseam as you... It also sounds as if you ride with your shield at about the same as me too... Go with the tallest Mark shield and if it is to large,,, cut it to what you want...

JMHO...

A wingtip vortex has its unique property from air spilling off the wingtip underside edge curling up and around the wingtip and combining with the wings lift downwash to create fast spinning vortex.

None of this applies to a run of the mill flat body. Sure, vortexes are generated behind a shield but not "wingtip vortexes". The wintip vortexes of an aircraft are beautiful works of art, albeit potentially dangerous ones. The stuff going on behind our windshields is a haphazard mess.

04 ST 18.4 kmiles 5'9" rider

Had the Rifile "sport" for around 6 months and 4000 miles.

Helmet noise was noticeably reduced (probably due to wider dimension at top of shield). That's with my noisy HJC Symax. Tend to ride with low-mid shield positions, which I can do with my visor flipped up.

Also, the "tuning blocks" change in shield rake seems to improve a slow wobble experience I've had at higher speed/shield height, moreso off bow waves.

Only thing I didn't like was the un-sightly removal of the plastic covers from shield linkage, so I re-mounted them with different hardware.

ANd, I like the way it looks

any Rifle owner near NJ by chance? I'd love to have a look at the shield. I emailed Rifle with a slew of quesitons and they have ignored me.

I'm 6', 180 lbs. with a 30 inch inseam so I can't claim to understand your predicament. I don't know much about vortices, but I have a +2 inch tall, +6 inch wide CB (w/vent) installed in the highest position. The air is incredibly still aroung my body and head (maybe too still). My wife and I feel very, very little turbulence. I won't even consider looking for something "better" because I know I've found the best option for me. I've never experienced quieter riding.

IMHO the Rifle does look better.
