I really like the thread Show me pics of your camp sites here http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34790. I am looking forward to a camping-motorcycle trip, probably in the fall. I would love to see your pictures of bikes fully loaded out for camping. Let us know how long/how far your trip was too!

Looks like I can only upload this one picture, seems I've already uploaded the other 3 pictures of my loaded bike that I have on file at this time.
Guess you'll have to do a search if you want to see all.

Here are pictures of campsites - the one of the bike loaded is what it looks like each time (I have a new water proof bag, but still basically the same load out). Each of these trip were 7-8 days covering between 4400 & 6600 miles
The first picture is at My Rushmore, #2 is a camp site just below My Rushmore, #3 campground in MN, #4 thats Lake Superior in the background, #5 is a small campground in the middle of no where in SE AZ
We always ride 2-up so we carry a large tent (6x10) with a 6' tall center, a tarp, two sleeping bags, two blankets, two pillows, two pairs of sneekers, etc.
http://www.frontiernet.net/~st1300rider/09-07-06/Ray and Hope riding.jpg
In this picture, we even had our small cooler on top and a back pack on the back for some small, light misc. items.
We were doing about 70mph through the Nevada desert in the picture.

I'm surprised Joe hasn't posted his yet. I think he is the MotoCamping Guru. As for our bike, I don't have pictures, but I can say we ride two up and everything fits nicely inside all three hard bags. This includes a nice full size air mattress and pump. However, it would not have been possible without the use of compression bags. They are an absolute must have for MotoCamping.
I promised a MotoCamping trip to my wife this year, so it would be great if we could meet up with some other Texans to do a trip somewhere where it is cool, shady and there are some good hiking trails. We'll bring the Phase 10 and Skip Bo.

Thanks for the pictures everybody! I see the packing runs the gamut from looking like nothing more than a ride to the corner store all the way to looking like the Clampetts moving to California. :D
Trekker - Thanks for the MotoCampers link
Sandman - Can you lean back and use the sleeping bag? as a back rest?
Motomac & MidLife - I did not want to limit the picturs to STs, more pictures equals more ideas.

There are tent poles in a black bag strapped to the rear grab rail in front of the top box. The tent, is split between the two saddlebags and thermarest pads, sleeping bags, ground cloth, plastic hammer for putting stakes in the ground are also in the two saddlebags. The top box holds the rest of our stuff (clothes etc...) I thought I had some pictures of how the bags were packed but I can't find them at the moment.

The trailer pulls very well at freeway speeds and tracks very well in the twisties.
Of course as with any trailer, stopping distance is increased and takeoff speed is reduced.

Yes that's the best benefit of this load, with the STeed STicks out I can lean back into the sleeping bag pack and cruise.
CampSToc will be my first ride with the Russell Day-long seat and I'm interested in how this improves the comfort. 20,000 miles on the stock seat was painful at times.

I love this forum. I was under the mistaken assumption that one just "does not use a trailer" behind an ST. When my wife and I travel longer trips(more soon I hope), our three bags just hold enough for our stuff and no room for the equipment required for camping. I've been thinking of getting a Goldwing so that I could tow a trailer. This gives me new inspiration, cause I did not want to give up the ST, AND I did want the option of camping when out on the road. I would imagine a lot of sportiness is sacrificed by towing anything, but it wouldn't be all the time and I'm going to look into it.

Hi Midlife,
I will copy and paste my "intro" from a few days ago. It tells part of the story. I looked into purchasing a new Honda hard bag from parts but at almost $800 I tried to get creative. I have since located used units but have grown to enjoy the soft ones, they hold a lot. My "big box" is not pretty but functions very well. It was only $99 from Wallmart.com. I keep only the light weight bulky items in it. I use my bike often to transport me to my wilderness spot where I am building a rustic mountain hideaway.
(In the last photo I had been setting up camp in the Arizona desert and could hardly believe the load of crap I had carried with me. I am fine tuning as I go.)
Have Fun
Mexico last winter, Seattle in a couple of weeks. Love this bike.
Hi Everyone!
I purchased my fallen 2004 ST1300 FOR $3000, repaired it. I put 4k miles on it the first season and have never looked back. I have always driven, rode and mowed my lawn with Hondas. This is the greatest freedom tool I have ever owned. I push the limits of this great machine into Adventure Touring territory all the time. I do not let the end of the pavement hinder my distant or back country explorations. I often camp in very remote and mountainous areas and have had nothing but fun. I may have been LESS inclined to use this bike the way I do had I purchased it showroom new. This is no trailer queen and we are developing quite the love affair. I have enjoyed this site for some time and appreciate all the valuable information found here. I look forward to being more involved here in the future. This bike makes me feel that circling the globe may be a reasonable goal for me.

For only a few days away the bike (ST11) only looks like the normal bike with a topbox on. Everything fits in. I have gone for smaller cooking gear, dome tent. If I was doing longer periods I have a large square bag to go on the pillion seat, fully waterproof (it used to be my main bag on the old bike, it slips over a rack). The least separate items you have roped on, the less likely you are to lose things.

Since everything else fits in the luggage, should I be paranoid and get dry bags for the bag, mattress, and clothing?

By putting the tent and gear in a dry bag, you may find it is easier to pack & strap on to the bike. And consider if you will be riding all day in a hard rain the tent will stay dry until setting it up. Do your panniers and top box stay dry? If yes I wouldn't worry about extra dry bags.

Call me paranoid if you want, but I like dry bags!
Nice to have when it rains and you have to set up or break the camp down. The way the saddlebags are made, they will start collecting water the second you open them. And even after the rain, dry bags help separating what is dry from what has been soaked and stuffed into your bags/case (like a dripping rain suit for instance).

This is from our trip from Md to Ashville NC down skyline dr and blue ridge pkwy in 7/08 on the vmax. The saddlebags are backwards so they will ride over the turn signals and allow passenger to reach pegs. I agree that compresson bags are the way to go, you can fit more and keep contents dry. A tent w/ short pole segments (Eureka Zepher) and small bags (slumberjack overbags) pack nicely in the backrest bag. Cook equipment and food go in the roll bag, closed cell pads are strapped on. We each get 1 saddlebag for personal belongings. Misc stuff (gps, cell phone, water) go in the tank bag, along with a 12v receptable wired to the battery. Its worked for many trips including Finger Lakes NY, Canton OH, and Vermont, but for a multi month cross country trip I just couldn't accept the limitations of the vmax (3 gal tank, no fuel guage, 100 mi range) and the luggage hanging by threads. Hence, we recently acquired an ST1300 and are busy trying to outfit to suit our preferences.

This is my bike last week with gear for both myself and son loaded, I had to meet up with him about 100 miles away to off load half the gear to his ST, man was it heavy on the bike, all bags were full too, but still no weve or wobble when I hit about 120MPH on the way, had to see for my self, rock solid.
Then with my gear only about to cross Sonora pass California.
Oh and if your curious, I have two big Sleeping bags, two REI 3.5 Camp beds, Two folding chairs, two Kelty tents in the saddle bags, a 2 Gal bucket, a camp shovel, two Dura Logs, One full size lantern, one medium size lantern, two many lanterns, two 8x6 tarps, a large Camel pak, not to mention all my personal clothes, tenni shoes, toiletries, and my tools and tire repair stuff, pump, plug kits(2) man was it loaded!!!

Make sure you make that sleeping back fit in your top box....or put it in a dry bag.....if you hit any rain, you're going to have a wet bag.
Just a tip!

Yah but if I hit rain, I'm also going to be hitting the Hotel, but yes I have a dry bag for those occasions, but if rain is forecast, or there's a hint of rain, I'm not camping, got the dry bag for trips to Utah,
And I just received my new smaller North Face bag from the UPS guy today, should make it easier to pack, but after off loading my kids stuff, the big one did fit in the top box on the way home, .

It's still in the "some assembly required" phase. It's been posted before, but I bought a partially cannibalized cop bike with under 13K miles on it.
The rear rack was made during lunch time a few weeks ago, it's temporary, like the nose which will be removed and replaced with something different once ice makes the riding season end. The bags are nelson-rigg cl-850, I made the racks to hang them in the stock quick-release system thurday evening, but took the pic of the empty diamond-plate rack the day before.

Okay, I finally had reason to try and bungie something to the passenger seat... and had no idea where to hook the bungies. I ended up criss-crossing from the side-bag handles to the holes in the rear-facing reflectors. How are y'all tying all this stuff down?
