Terry wouldn't get this?
He does so much for a great cause
especially in regards to the annual
Moonshine Lunch Run.
Please congratulate Terry for being
April 2008
Member Of The Month.
From Terry himself:
I really,,, REALLY don't take compliments/honor well,,, and this is a HUGE
honor... Me being picked for the Member of the month I really can't do...
There are so many doing so many things to help with the MLR that my
part is just such a small part... I do it because I love it... I love meeting
new friends... I LOVE seeing people from the ST-Owners visiting with the
MTF and the COG sites!!! I say,,, I am a Border Collie,,, because I am,,, a
Border Collie... A Border Collie is happy pushing people along,,, and finding
more of the herd... That is what I do,,, and that is all I do...
I have rode at least 250,000 miles in my life and before the MLR,,, was
known as a Long Distance Rider... Now,,, the MLR is what I will die being
known for... I am happy with that when I see the smiles it makes...
Before I ever bought a 2001 Connie I owned just 1 new bike... A 1976
Goldwing... I bought it after riding a Honda Trail 70 before... After the
Goldwing I bought bike after bike of my friends who were selling them...
Low miles and cheap,,, I love both of thoses...
Then I bought a Connie and LOVED IT!!! It was New and Cheap!!! Became
a Cog member and loved the guys there and still do... Never thought I
would find another group I liked better but was proven wrong when I
stumbled onto the www.st-owners.com (http://www.st-owners.com) site...
People ask me why I do the MLR... I told local Friends I would do it and
hope to make 1 good friend a year from it... So,,, using that formula,,, I
will be holding the MLR for another 1,295 years...

Actually, I'm going to try and make sure these don't necessarily repeat... It's real easy to just tag a month with the person that did an event but I'm trying to make it more about what the person stands for ...
In Terry's case - very little - okay, maybe my logic is a bit off...... :nuts1:

I have planned on going for the last three years, but something always seems to jump in the way at the last minute. It's obvious from reading all of the great reports on this forum that there is no one more deserving for MOTM than Terry. I look forward to a future year that I can make it.
Congratulations

Dang it,,, this really does blow me away... :bow1:
I made it through 4 pages and was just smiling,,, but then another thing I am infamous for,,, I started to cry... :o: For some reason the post that broke the tears out was DR1954's... Here is a guy who took a 1,000 pictures,,, spent his whole time thinking of others and getting pictures of them,,, he took my now most cherished picture,,, ever,,, of me at Moonshine in front of the store,,, never took a dime to do it,,, and then says nice stuff about me??? That,,, was when it all started... THEN,,, the Oasis BC rider we all wished we would have been,,, Papa Bear thanking me??? That,,, just did me in...
When I see about 1/2 of the posters on this thread are the ones who helped me,,, it made me feel good that they too share in this award...
1 Time a Professor at University of Texas at Austin was at my house at a party... He said he had just completed a 4 year study of people and how they make few friends after the age of 18... I think,,, if I remember right,,, his "Research Grant/Government Backed" Study showed we only,,, "On Average" make less than 3 Close friends after the age of 18...
As I got him a bowl of Ice Cream,,, I said point blank,,, You didn't interview any people who rode Long Distance Motorcycles then did ya... Everyone,,, fell quiet,,, and the Professor said,,, why would that matter??? And I just asked "You ever ride a Motorcycle Professor??? He said No...
I just took a big scoop of Ice Cream and smiled as I said,,,
If you never ride a bike,,, you would never understand,,, and you wouldn't believe all the friends I have made through a Motorcycle...
Now,,, over 14 years later,,, even I,,, can not believe how unbelievably lucky I have been... :o:
Yes,,, Yes you are correct if you guess I am crying,,, again...
Thanks everyone,,, this simple farmer is almost a loss of words... Almost,,, I said... ;)

Terry, congratulations man! I can only add my few words of appreciation, I know that you contribute more than the work you do for MLR. When ever I see one of your posts....even before I read it...... I'm smiling. I know that you're going to entertain me, doesn't matter if you're talking about your favorite football team, warning others not to follow in your foot steps by crashing in new and exotic locations. You might be posting your latest attempts to wheel and deal with TLC on a new farkle or bike. You might be just trading snippets with your online buddies like Coop or Putt. Even your banter about the lifelong search for the perfect riding jacket are fun to read.
Yeah, I'd say there's a lot more to ACL than a bit of involvement in MLR. Thanks Terry for just being you! One of these days, I'm going to have to make a point of visiting your little neck of the woods and shake hands with a friend I've yet to meet.
My hats off to the selection committee, you most certainly got it right this time.

:::::yes,,, austin said bed... He worked from 7 am Thursday - 3 am Friday,,, 2 hour nap,,, and back at it 6 :15 am - 1:30 pm today:::::
Then,,, I read dteel's post... How can I not,,, forget about the rain and no sleep??? :D
Thanks to everyone who put's up with my wacky post,,, my rarely on subject rant's,,, my long,,, L O N G,,, stories,,, and for,,, being good friends with me... :bow1:
I truly am a very lucky person,,, yes I am... ;)

Although I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you Terry,,, I've always enjoyed your writing style,,, (three commas - ATCATT :D ),,, good humor,,, and you make people feel welcome too!
A little while back, I think someone here wrote something about feeling bad about their subject not being about motorcylcles (can't remember the details). But I do remember YOUR reply,,, you said something like 80% of what you wrote here had nothing to do with motorcylces. That was a great response man!!
Congrats ACL,,, you deserve to be MOTM!!!

All in time,,, all in good time I say... :D
If ya don't know me,,, and many here do,,, you would think I just am making up my wacky stories,,, and not really serious when I say how honored I am to know all you...
Me getting this honor,,, because I wanted to have a wacky idea like MLR work with no funding,,, free food 1 night,,, no advertising,,, except word of mouth or the internet thingy??? You really all who have shown up to MLR have a part in this deal... :bow1:
And Curt,,, just the thought of 2 IBR people last year,,, volunteering to sell T-Shirts and sign people up like you and Rebecca did at MLR??? It will be 20 years till that cool of a deal ever happens again!!!

Moonshine might be providing the timing of this award, but Terry, the award isn't about Moonshine, it's for being "The Spirit of the ST," part of the soul of this site, for being a friend to ALL regardless . . . of anything!!!!!!!!!
After 35 years of NOT riding, I bought an ST and stumbled onto this site, then decided to go to NatSToc in August - my first event. Arrived at the Iron Horse on Wed and there were a few other bikes there, but I didn't see any STs so rode on my own on Thur. Saw some STs on Friday, but they were a family departing home to Canada and we shared the road on Fri as they headed out of town. By now I'm wondering if I'm in the right place.
So Friday night I kind of ask the room if anyone is there from the ST-Owners group and I didn't have the sentence completed before some big guy grabbed my arm and directed me over to a nearby table and started introducing me - it was YOU!!!!!!! You're the first other ST rider I met - kind of like a first date . . . uh, wait a minute . . . (I did get a little nervous when the first thing you said after the introductions was something about there not being a full moon BUT . . . had I heard about the Moonshine Run  WHAT a segway!).
. . . AND YOU ARE a GREAT STORY TELLER! I always want to sit at your table as I get to eat hot food and be entertained! :D
. . . AND you know a lot about bikes and share, i.e. Rotella-T (blue bottle).
Echoing the sentiments of others, I know, but you're a great friend and I'm proud to know you.
CONGRATULATIONS TERRY
