Forgive me...I'm new to this, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what the differances are between different model other than the additional inputs on the more expensive models. If you just want music, GPS and intercom is there any reason to buy anything other than the basic unit? Am I missing something?

Here's (http://www.autocomamerica.com/comparisons.cfm) a nice comparison of the different units and what you gain/lose going high or low on price. Personally, I have the Super Pro Avi and I like the automatic volume adjustment based on noise, ability to adjust the VOX settings, music fader options, etc.

Is this a simple enough farkle on the ST1300?
Any tricks, issues, pointers?
We did our first highway trip yesterday. 200 mile round trip to the in-laws. Convinced me that an intercom system would be good to get.
Thanks.

There is a lot of info on this site. Look in the Audio, FRS, radio section. Or search on autocom. Options include putting the Autocom in a tankbag or under the seat/tailsection. You'll need to read the threads and decide what is right for you. I've ordered mine. I will start with it in the tankbag. We'll see how it goes. I have power outlets on the dash and under the seat.

Mate i have the one withe the lot. The 300 pro model...Yeah its the best but...If their is a next time I would get the cheapest Autocom that has pillion communications and a spare plug for CB/Walkie Talkie...... Next with the difference in price plus a few bucks extra I would get a GPS with Bluetooth (For Phone) and whullah you have the same setup as the Autocom Pro 300 but with a GPS and a Bluetooth for the phone....The Super Pro 300 does not have Bluetooth for the phone but instead has a lead connection and after a year or more i still can't get mine to work properly.
So cheapest Autocom with CB connection and Pillion connection + GPS with Bluetooth :aussie1:

Then you may need to carve out the ear pocket in your helmet a little. The speakers should be located in the "sweet spot" as shown in the Autocom instructions. I had to make some small adjustments to my helmet to get them positioned just right.

I got mine set up last weekend. A quick test ride with the wife, turned the VOX up a little and my volume up. It worked with her ipod. The 50% volume reduction is fun. My AM FM radio is picking up some noise, I ordered a noise filter. Do not have the cell phones worked out yet.
We went to the Giants game on the bike last night. It was nice to chat along the way. It was cold coming home, turned up the Gerbing heated jacket and gloves.

Yeah I'm planning on doing this, I'm just a little hesitant to cut into the brand new helmet I just got.
