View Full Version : What does your nickname stand for?
OzarkSTpilot
07-29-2007, 07:28 PM
this one's easy... i'm a native texan......
and the ST will fly.......!!
however, i must also say that when some one follows what you have done, it is the ultimate compliment........right ?
so i must give credit where it is due..
when i seen another members handle (the original "STPilot")...it seemed so right for the ST....so i had to add the TX to personalize it for me.
but i do like the originator's idea ! so Thanks to the original STPilot !

I'm a nerd and played Dungeons and Dragons back in high school and college. This was a character name that I've used online since the days of dial-up BBS.
pointpergame
08-02-2007, 01:24 AM
14 years of amateur ice hockey. I even HAD a pointpergame for a couple seasons. I just retired at age 64...but had a pointpergame for the first game of my final season!
( I used to think "bobbyorr" was a great screen name but, like jersey #4 on any hockey team, it's always taken before I can get to it )
sennister
08-08-2007, 10:57 PM
Senn is my last name and while in the Army it became my nickname. It was the name of my track for a while and my callsign on the radio. Sorry our unit didn’t always play by the “book”.
Allan_Eh
08-16-2007, 09:24 AM
Hmmmm.... let's see. My name is Allan and I'm Canadian and my last name starts with the letter A........... Combine that and we have Allan Eh
sirepair
08-16-2007, 11:05 AM
Not all too creative here; my TRUE nickname; Gonzo, was already used as a handle here.
I used to have a PC Service and repair company called Systems Integration & Repairs (S.I.R. for short) and went to register a domain name, but sir.com was taken so I shortened it to sirepair. I've used it for so long now I can't bother to change!
Freaky thing about the domain name: I checked out sir.com (I think it was called Strategic Information Resources) and one of the founders was Patrick O'Brien..... my name is Patrick O'Bryant! *<spooky-weird sound plays>*

Marty & Marsha This is our second marriage. She has 2 kids, I have 2 kids. I work in TV production and when you re-do an intro or an update it becomes another "take" so M&M Take2. 10 years and no re-takes! Marty

Strangely enough, I was listening to the Eagle's Hotel California track about the time I signed up. You know, one of those songs you can't get out of your head. One of the lyrics in the song was "They stab it with their steely knives, But they just can't kill the beast
I was thinking, hmmm, STeely, cold blue steel and compared to a Nighthawk 750, this thing's a beast! So here we have have it, STeelybeast.
Lost Dutchman
08-23-2007, 12:16 AM
My parents are both Dutch immigrants, hence the dutchman part. And I just seem to stay lost!!
it was my radio designator for 9 years so I got sort of used to it. It's funny how many people send me messages thinking my name is Sam even though I sign my messages as Tony.

08-29-2007, 07:25 PM
I'd like to say it has something to do with my wife's opinion of me when we "play",;) but it's more likely the fact I've been riding a loooong time.

I ride a motorcycle, go figure, and I allways try to keep the Shiny Side Up and the Rubber Side Down, and I live in Arizona. Oh Yea, I'm bald so it works on that level too.
KrazyKooter
09-10-2007, 02:35 PM
I was a big Dukes of Hazzard fan growing up. I liked the way he always talked on the CB, "This here's Craaaaazy Cooter comin atcha!" I thought I would take the name of the richest, hardest working man in Hazzard. He should be the richest, considering he was the only body shop in town and the cops were always wrecking their cruisers.

NoBull
09-11-2007, 07:02 AM
With a last name like BULL I get a lot of Buncha, lotta, Bull****, etc, So I did this to keep it to a minimum. Later...
When I bought the ST in Kansas City and rode it home, a couple of my riding buddies met me halfway and we and rode together the rest of the way back to Tennessee. After the first stop one of them said (that viewed from the back), "that exhaust is so kewl, like it could be machine guns on some kind of James Bond bike!" so...

Sarcastro
09-27-2007, 10:27 PM
Sarcastro is a minor character in the comic/cartoon "The Tick". Sarcastro is in the Tick's superhero training program. He uses his super SARCASm and casTRO like physical stature to fight evil.
Good thread by the way. I have also been enjoying the "bike name origin" thread.
STBNE: I have noticed we have taken similar bike paths. I have also dipped into the yamaha bike pool (XS750special, XJ750 seca).
ChipSTer
09-27-2007, 10:39 PM
ChipSTer - I'm a JR (named after my dad) and Chip is a nickname for JR's... I've been called Chip (or prior to elementary school - Chipper) all my life... My sisters (two - both younger) often call me Chipster.... So it was an easy choice.... :D

09-28-2007, 07:26 AM
I am a long time PC Gamer, I usually just put Killer on my character's name,
in 2002 I got my WS6 TA and later hit a deer, Killer01ws6 was the logical choice for all of my email and car forum names for years to come.
Well When I started here I had just picked up my bike, my imagination was working too hard, so killerST6 which I am sure you all can decode lol.
Malks
09-28-2007, 04:52 PM
A friend at work called me that many years ago and it sort of stuck. Malks is a combination of Malcolm and Kerr with an "s" stuck on the end. I have been called worse, but I like that nickname most so I use it as my online name.

Both myself and my wife ride.Had a litttle mishap at a busy intersection while on a group ride.A guy ran a stop sign :mad1: and I was so busy watching him, I veered over into my wifes line and "clipped " her left side mirror. Thankfully, that was all the damage (except for the tongue banging i got later:o: )
I mentioned to her that my Kawi must be made of superior steel cause my mirror didnt break:eek:
Hence...the name Clipper

TRICKYRIC5474
10-19-2007, 04:10 PM
Got the handle Tricky Rick from my NJ State Police Station Commander after a successful investigation during which I was asked to interview a burglary/arson/stolen boat suspect for the local pd and during the interview I was able to convince the suspect that his crimes were understandable, maybe even justifiable and that it would be in his best interest to confess to his crimes and stop wasteing two police dept.'s, the fire dept. and the US Coast Guards times with his lies. this occured about a week after I attended an 80 hour NJSP advanced course in Interview & Interrogation skills taught by the polygraph unit.
The 5474 is easy. That was my badge number.

Came from time in the Army. We were going to Vietnam to recover bodies of down pilots from the war, Airforce crew won't believe it was our true mission and started calling us the "Black Ops". We started using it in our e-mails back to HQ. been using it ever since.:D
leveredge
11-08-2007, 01:18 PM
Lever-edge. Not leverage mis-spelled although my spelling is bad. I used this handle from another forum about shooting. The "lever" gun is my "edge". My fav is a Marlin lever in .44 rem mag pistol caliber.

DaBear
01-30-2008, 04:17 AM
Mine was my nickname in the Army. In fact, it stayed with me after the service. In the ten years that I carried mail, I had several people that knew me as 'The Bear', but didn't know my real name!
It started because my weight, temperament, and amount of body hair are about the same as....well, isn't it obvious?
Sqaffor
02-01-2008, 04:47 PM
Easy - Square Four - after my favourite bike, a 1958 Ariel 1000cc 4G. None of the handling or comfort of the ST, but since I found it in Croydon ten years ago has travelled most of the UK, a great chunk of Europe and Scandanavia and most of the eastern bits of Oz. It'll still pull 100mph in moments of madness, but ideally likes to sit on 65 - 70 (110 - 115 km's) all day.
Pic attached.....
Cheers, OzSteve

mine is from the name of the town where I grew up ....a very small fishing village in south AL called Bayou La Batre ( yes the same one mentioned in "Forrest Gump" ) and the second part was a nickname from pee-wee football that I got from being big for my age that stuck even though I didn't play football after the age of 10.

Gonzo
02-08-2008, 01:17 PM
I didn't actually choose my nickname - it was given to me at least twice by people who didn't even know each other.
First time I remember was because of my twisted sense of humor. I live for humor of every kind, and I'm convinced that without it, I would be dead.
Second time I remember was because a Gonzo Descent is pointing your bicycle down hill and (hopefully) never touching the brakes until the bottom.

My name is Tim Allen. Just can't escape the stigma! It does help people remember on the first try, though. (Just in case you ride more than you watch, Tim Allen was the star of the hit show Home Improvement. Couldn't order a pizza for a few years unless I dropped the first name or gave them my wife's name.

Mine comes from the bowhunting community. If you have read Bowhunter Magazine and Maggie's Meanderings then you've heard of the Dumb Bunch and the Ferret..that's me.
Got the name cause when I was younger I was small and fast and usually got what I was going after..now 30 years older I'm slow and fat and usually come home empty handed. Thinking of changing my nickname to "the Sloth" or something ha ha
Winged_STer
02-12-2008, 05:52 PM
Winged_STer... The "winged is from my youth of following the Detroit Red Wings and wanting to be the next Gordie Howe (yeah it was a long time ago). I like the winged wheel theme so much that I've incorporated it onto mt ST because it flies like it has wings. The "Ster" part is kind of self explainatory.
Ok why Herman Munster as my avatar? Some of my daughters friends say the resemblance is remarkable... ok, just the scary part. But we are built the same.

Slo~Ride, I was given the name when I joined the Borderline Riders M/C (now I'm President of the club) My first time on a poker run with this group I won the slow race bike game beating out the former slow race champion (7 years running). I also did this on the slowest bike I had in my stable at the time, a 170mph aprilia. The name served as a dual purpose.....one of them being a joke.

Mine stems from the days when AOL assigned each member a sign-in number (like 1143,212) during those slow old 1200 baud modem days (80's ).
When AOL upgraded users to alpha numeric IDs, I was forced to choose from a limited number of options which were compiled from my name...I apparently was AOL's 940th "jbaker".
I've just used it since then and now its too engrained to bother changing. Sorry, no mystique.

hscoggin
03-23-2008, 02:39 PM
"hscoggin" is the user ID I got when I first connected to the Internet. The local college in the relatively small community where I was living at the time was offering access, and they assigned everyone an 8-character ID of their first initial (Hal) and the first seven letters of their last name (Scoggins). Not very exciting, but I've used it as my default ID everywhere ever since.

We just came back from 3 days in Portland on the leading edge of the Spring Break Ice Age. I had to get my annual Beaverton Honda "museum" fix. I thought drivers in the Rogue Valley were agressive. My hat's off to you. I've just learned of the Hell's Canyon Rally in June and it sounds like a winner. Have you ever attended, or know anyone who has?

I grew up out in Kansas and we moved to California just in time for me to start high school. Well, whenever someone found out where I was from, they would quote The Wizard of Oz..."We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto." The name stuck and stuck well. There was several years where if you went to where I lived and asked for me by my real name, no one knew who you were talking about. Ask for Toto and everyone knew who that was. A funny time was when somebody was looking for me and when they were unable to find me, they asked if anyone knew a guy by the name of Toto who I hung out with because maybe I was with him.
The "Solo" part came as an observation from many friends of mine regarding the fact that they never saw me with anyone as far as girlfriends go. This has translated over to riding since I am the only one of my entire family who rides and have very few friends who ride street and none of which who enjoy the long hauls.......so, I ride alone.
The "coyote" part came from an interest in the Native American culture and totems (spirit animals). From my readings, I felt that my totem is the coyote.

Well, grandfather gave it to me on my birth. I was as light as a bird and there was a war in the world. He has always said that a Warbird is a bird that shows that war is over and that life is very shortly to return.
He also tolled me that it is a strong name like my other name William. Witch stands for "I will" or "strong will".
And yes, I'm a American Indian.

pH - more or less an analytical measurement. It's what I do for a living.
01 - binary; only 10 kinds of people get it. It's a hobby.
Overall it's pronounced as Freud (as in Sigmund) 'cause seriously I could make an interesting brain case for some psychiatrist somewhere... maybe Australia... I can hear it now... "Yer brain's been french froid, mate"
...guess I had a little too much time on my hands back then.
STscarletLady
07-03-2008, 10:59 AM
Well, we all know what the ST means. The scarlet comes from a lady that used to work for me. When she would ask me about something I needed to think about, I would tell her I'd get back to her or we would handle it later. She would say "Scarlet's here again" in reference to Gone With the Wind character, Scarlet who said she would "think about it tomorrow at Tara". I'm still that way. Overthink things most of the time.

I have surprised many an unsuspecting sportbike. I don't think the ST could hang with it, but sure gets better gas mileage. It must be something about odd motor configs.....I5 and V4

FlyingPig
08-01-2008, 09:17 AM
When I bought my 95 ST, first few weeks I dropped it three times until I got used to its weight distribution. Before this one, I had 83 Gold Wing, close in weight but lower center of gravity. I love it when it is moving, but I have to plan how to handle it at low speed. If there is any slope, I have to make sure I can go forward uphill, because I have 30” inseam and not to much leverage to push backward. When my friends and riding buddies asked me about my bike I would tell them that when it moves it flies but in the parking lots it is a pig. So hence a Flying Pig. :D

To explain the "umm", when I registered with Ebay many years ago as Hotwheelbill, I got a letter from Mattel Corp. wanting to know what my intentions were. I never replied.
REI (sporting goods company) made the mistake on my name, then sold my name to countless catalogs as BBob Crowley.
So I took it and use it on various things such as forums, and also any artwork I do.

Lowrider
11-09-2008, 06:56 AM
About a million years ago my kids started riding dirt bikes and we needed to lower the bike to the max so their legs reached the ground, and not having long legs myself, I did the same with my dirt bikes. The kids picked up the name "Lowrider" and gave it to me since I was the one lowering their bikes. The boys are about 6' now but I'm shrinking so "Lowrider" still fits.
In the Fall of 2002, in anticipation of the 100th anniversary of a certain American bike, I ordered a silver and black version of the anniversary bike which of course was a "Lowrider" which I will probably keep forever more. I find myself not riding it much anymore....still...the itch for a rumbly ride strikes once in awhile and I scratch it with the "Lowrider"

Went camping many, many years ago with friends. He was out early in the morning, trying to get the fire going so he could have his coffee. After several failed attempts, I told him to wait, I would get up and get his fire going. Stu Padazole
12-30-2008, 10:20 PM
My nick is a long story. My friends still think it's funny.
While I was still in high school, I got really wiped out at a small party one Saturday night.
A friend who arrived late decided I needed to get home before I got any worse, so he loaded me (with help) in his car and started to drive me home (he hadn't had any thing to drink).
On the way there, he got stopped for loud pipes, or something minor.
When he rolled down his window the cop immediately smelled alcohol, and of course that other horrible smell that goes with babies and drunks.
"You boys been drinking?"
"No Sir"
"What about him?" Pointing at me.
"Bad Pizza" (That's really what my friend said).
Talking to me. "What's your name?"
"Stu".
"Stu what?"
"Padazole" The guy was clueless.
The cop, realizing we were both minors, said "Get those mufllers fixed before I see you again, and if I see either of you again tonight......" and let us go.
Of course my friend went back to the party and told everyone the story. To this day a lot of my friends (thoes who know the story) call me Stu, which is short for:
Stupid A$$whole. :D

FlexyRacer
01-02-2009, 01:29 PM
Does anyone recognize the Flexy? It is basically a Flexible Flyer sled with wheels. As an 11 year old kid, it was my first experience with something that was "high performance". Back then, we had a choice of wagons and bicycles (with playing cards rubbing against the spokes held on by clothes pins). I did make my own skate board by sawing a 2x4 to a suitable length and sacrificing my pair of metal skates by nailing them to the board. But the Flexy would SCREAM down hills and I actually slid around some corners as well. It was fun in the rain too. My pal up the street had one and we would devise stunts such as going down a hill in tandem and the flexy rider in the back would jump off his onto the front one and we'd finish the ride two up. We devised "ditching" techniques for emergency off purposes and even when doing a stunt like the one above, would insure the deserted flexy was flipped over onto an adjacent lawn or something to avoid it being a dangerous weapon to a bystander or passing car. Alas, the flexy was discontinued, in the early 1970's I believe, because too many kids were dying. We just seemed to have good common sense, even at that age, and knew how far we could push things before they got too dangerous. I guess alot of kids didn't have any sense at all. I just happened to be thnking about my old flexy when I was looking for an ST1300 to purchase. I guess I put the two together when I signed up for this site as the ST1300 rekindles some of the same excitement my high performance flexy did when I was a young boy.
