Been asked twice now... so thought I'd start since cl came up with the idea... thanks cl :)

She stands for Sherri (wife) Rob for Robert (me)... just easy to remember with all of the userids I have, the type of work I do... same has home email too.

Not dual personalities or a lifestyle I live... :D

nofinishline
05-26-2005, 07:26 AM
"nofinishline" has been my user name since the beginning of my computer life. It's also my philosophy...."In life, there is no finish line." I also used to work for nike, the sports and fitness company, and I will always feel like I'm a part of it. I also wanted a user name that was non gender specific. When I used to chat alot, someone shortened it to "nfl" and it stuck. I love my name!

Cheers,
nfl

I wanted mine to be a little nuts to represent me and since my bike at the time was a KZ650 I thought it was just a cool nickname. Not much to it but it kind of flows together.

John-DownUnder

"John-DownUnder"...... Should I bother?

Started using it on the "groups.msn.com/ST1300US" site and needed to differentiate from all you north American continentals that inhabit these boards (being the only known Australian using that site at the time).

My ex-Florida cousins (now living in N.Y.) don't refer to their relatives here that way, but it seems to work.

Mine came from when I worked as a counselor at a Boy Scout Camp. There was a guy who was nicked Robin Hood (Archery Director, go figure LOL). All summer I was quoting the "LittleJohn" character from the bugs bunny cartoon..."Dont you worry, never fear, Robin Hood will sonn be here!, He goes skipping tra la la through Sherwood forest helping the needy and oppressed..." It stuck....LMAO

I have no imagination whatsoever. I have always just used my initials every since I was trying to find out if Radio Shack was selling my info back in the 80's when they asked for all that stuff every time you bought a 0.25 cent part. Instead of my name I started giving my initials to just them and sure enough..... Then they told me they didn't sell their mailing list.

Christopher L. becomes clmixon which also keeps me from forgetting who I am.

jackpine savage
05-26-2005, 08:25 AM
In northern Wisconsin where I was born a jackpine savage is a somewhat demeaning term for someone who makes his living cutting jackpine pulpwood for a living. Jackpine is one of the trees that will grow like weeds in the almost pure sand left after the glacial retreat. Even though I have moved to a different economic status I still think of myself as a... you guessed it.

A series of signs at the entrance of my up north property:

"Proceed with extreme caution..."

"Jackpine Savage spotted in vicinity."

The important thing is, I think it's funny. :)

My niece Carly when she first started talking use to call me "Gung" (how she got that from Dennis???). This went on for quite sometime. We were together as family during one of the holidays and my Dad mentions how cute it was that Carly calls me "Gug". Everyone went nutz! Well it stuck. To solidify it my cousin from Italy brought me a family tree that goes back to the 1200's and in the wayback machine about 1400 sumethin it has a "Guglielmo" in that tree. Needless to say......

A long, long time ago (before WWW) when I got my first e-mail account and user name for a news reader there was a limit of 8 characters for usernames. (pre-1990 and all unix stuff if I remember...) I wanted to go with first initial and last ame but to do so I had to drop one letter from my last name and so I became seiseman. I have just stuck with it for screen names since. How's that for exciting.......

TxRebel-
When I was very young my dad's boat was named "Texas Rebel". When the CB craze was in full swing, that was my cb handle. I have had 'rebel' in just about every email address I have ever had. And it kinda fits my character as I like to go against the flow, can be very rebelious... and my kids are very much the same way... talk about paybacks.

NewsMag
05-26-2005, 09:21 AM
Mine is a reference to some old ST1100 history. Back in 1991, a fellow named Grant Norman (the infamous) started a quarterly, printed newsletter called "The ST1100 Newsletter." It had a lot of helpful tips and things for about 3 years. Then the ST1100 Email remailer (aka the LiST, now run by Don Feyma) came to life under Derek Catt and Charlie Woods (both RIP now). The net spread tips pretty quickly, so the quarterly printed format wasn't that helpful. Grant sent all his subscribers a letter saying if we would pony up some extra $, he would turn the newsletter into a full-blown magazine, starting every two months and going to monthly. He would change the name to "The ST1100 Magazine." Most of us jumped on the idea and sent in the money, about $100 each. For reasons that were not totally explained, Grant took the money and ran. Left Houston and moved to Kansas or somewhere. Disappeared. The thing is, he had a custom-painted yellow ST which was kinda hard to hide. He eventually had to get rid of it.

Anyway, back on the LiST, every 3 or 4 months some newby would ask "Whatever happened to the ST1100 Newsletter?" which initiated a long trail of flames about what a crook Grant Norman was. One day I was feeling like a comedian and launched a new, alternative publication called "The ST1100 NewsMag" which was a spoof of the whole situation. I never wrote any articles, but sent out via the LiST a set of article TITLES that were things we would really have liked to see, or parodies of them, and some jabs at folks on the LiST. It was hugely popular. My goal was to not make any promises that I couldn't keep like Grant Norman did, so I wrote the following advertisement...

Announcing, from Sheepdog Publishing Company:

My wife and I designed and built our solar heated home, and I installed solar water heating on our home and shop. I am a solar advocate. One of our home businesses is "Sunart Studio", a stained glass business. Someone from the ST liST years ago refered to me as "Solar Doug", and since I`m into spelling words as they sound, "Sundug" came of that. It`s uncommon enough that I have no problem with someone else already using it when I register at different sites. Check out our place at-

This is a great thread as I always wonder about nicknames and vanity plates. I have come up with lots of ideas for a vanity plate but I refuse to pay extra. Fortunately on my car I got a USMC Veteran plate for no extra cost.

My nickname came out of my wife's love for a movie and kiddng around. She loves "Beauty and the Beast". We went to NYC a couple years ago and saw it on Broadway. I always called her my Beauty and at 5'8" 255lbs I was her Beast. She is 18 years younger than me and worships the ground I walk on :D Now I am 70lbs. lighter but she says I am still her beast.

I tell folks that our story is the "true" story of Beauty and the Beast. So when we bought the ST1300 and did our first wheelie, she said "Wow, this thing is a beast." So I called it the "beaST." Anyway when I signed up on the MSN forum "beast" was taken so she suggested "beastie" and I added my birth year. Not a great story, but certainly a long one.

Steve,
I think you have a winner here... You could publish a Quarterly edition
right here in the forum... It could contain absolutely nothing (for content).
Heck, you could even charge Charlie and Joe a nominal fee for
posting "nothing".... Might be a plan..... (might collect a bunch of
DQ coupons as payment from one of the admins)....

Um, yea.....Well??

Doobage
05-26-2005, 04:26 PM
What's in a name....

Well, many people get a misconstrued idea behind my handle. And like most of your names, nothing is as simple as it seems (except for maybe Kennedy...).

My brothers and I always had a fairly active imagination growing up. By the time I got in high school as a freshman I was constantly surrounded by my older brothers friends (seniors). Since my thought process was "unusual" they always felt that I must have been influenced by something that makes you think unusual thoughts.

In any case, I was Dr. D. G. Doobage, and the seniors called me "Doobage", or as often as it happens like last night in chat, simply, "Doob". I still try to keep thinking out-of-the-box because I think it keeps me young at heart. Question everything! And when that's not enough, add a lime twist and a pretzel.

More about me (if you wanna know):

Having this handle doesn't help when submitting a resume, especially for a goverment job (I work at NASA, Johnson Space Center). So I borrowed one of my brothers handles for my email address, "King Zoobus" which seems to make me eligible for even more "tests".

King Zoobus is a character out of short stories my brother and I would write using a silly method. He'd write about 2 and a half sentences, and then I'd only be allowed to read the last half sentence and begin writing my 2 and a half sentences. Back and forth. So trying to maintain a logical progression can be difficult when your main character is crushed under a school bus and then comes back to life a couple paragraphs later. I'm hoping to bring those chronicles (the Mogombo Chronicles) back from the dead, in the form of an online blog, or perhaps integrated in a simple game similar to "Hunt the Wumpus".

I have a wife (39) and daughter (almost 7 years old) (I'm 33). My wife likes her horses one at a time, whereas I like to pack in a few more in a smaller package (how many HP's is the ST anyway?). By day, I'm a lead developer on the Bioastronautics contract and play bass guitar at night in a progressive rock band (Cage) which is about to finish it's first CD. (instrumental)

I've been waiting to buy a street bike for 17 years and will get an '03 ST1300 on July 1rst. I'm writing down a story about it which will probably just end up a long winded blog... unless I can tie it more eloquently to additional subject matter perhaps like philosophy.

Additional stuff:

Capricorn
Blue
Green
Stout

Anything else you wanna know you'll just have to ask.

I enjoyed the chat last night as brief as I was in. I look forward to meeting you guys once I get my ride.

Back in the '70's there was a Afro-Rock band out of the UK that produced several albums on Decca Records. One day as I was thumbing through my brother in law's collection, I came upon an album whose cover caught my attention. Having never heard of this group I decided to give it a spin. I was impressed with the light airy melodies and the "crisscross rhythms that explode with happiness" and wound up purchasing all of their albums. As it turn out, the covers were painted by Roger Dean of Yes fame and is one of the few non Yes covers Roger produced.

The name is unique and I have adopted it as my handle. I believe the band still exists.

Cheers,

Bruce

I've been using the internet since back when it first started back in '90 or '91. You know...back when getting online meant Prodigy...AOL...or Compuserve. I was on prodigy. Anyway, one day as I was sitting at the computer I was asked to pick a username and my Daughter was very young then. She was watching George of the Jungle on TV and the tune was going on "George, George, George of the Jungle......." so it was the first thing that popped into my head. I used it and it stuck. After all these years, I'm still using it for all my usernames.

My user name orginated on another site with my previous bike a 1200 Bandit. When thinking about a Bandit related name, it occured to me that in 17th & 18th century England a "highwayman" was an outlaw or bandit that roamed the roads. It also tied nicely to the Johnny Cash song of the same name and the Alfred Noyes composition...

"The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight, over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding- "

I became The Highwayman....

It would kill me to know that you gave up something you love for me... The farm is far to important to give up...

(((She was meaning that I was on 2 Elected Boards and also the Farm we own we actually lived on before there was a State of Illinois!!! We lived on this farm in 1812 and the State of Illinois did not start till 1818)))

????? What the heck??? That does not answer about your frigg'n name or writing style?!?!?!

Back in 1992 I knew a guy in Austin that was 1 of the people responsible for getting what we now call the "Internet" started...

(((no,,, it wasn't frigg'n Gore either)))

I was living in Austin and was wanting to get started on the internet and was asking him a ton of questions...

1 thing I will always remember him telling me is,,, "Be Original"... The people on the internet you are typing to will not hear your voice... They will not see your face,,, everyone will look the same... Figure out a writing style that will make you unique,,, and people will know who you are without even seeing your name...

I started this way in 1992,,, and have not changed my internet name but once,,, (((see added note below))) style,,, or attitude...

My Name???

I posted,,, on A LOT,,, of Sports threads and the first one ever was in Austin in like 1991... It was a local place and I was SO proud to make my first post,,, E V E R!!! My name??? Well,,, they would not let you use your real name or E-mail address so,,, I took my favorite musicians name,,, Stevie Ray Vaughan... I posted 1,,, repeat,,, 1 time under that name,,, ever... I was so proud as I hit the send button and saw for the first time something I wrote on the Internet... :D

That was,,, for,,, oh,,, 11 minutes... This woman/howitzer/bulldog came UNGLUED at the thought that I would use SRV's name!!! See,,, in Austin SRV is a god,,, and,,, well,,, I just broke ever one of the 10 commandments of the Church of SRV!!! :cus: :shrug1: :Chair1: :box1:

I tucked my tail between my legs and decided that,,, MAYBE,,, a name change was needed... I had gotten lucky enough to get into the Austin city limits Studio where ACL was tapped 3 different times at that time and 1 was when SRV taped his last show ever on there... (((you can see my blond hair on the tape/dvd in the crowd))) SO,,, I changed my name to ACL,,, and I am ACL,,, EVERYWHERE on the internet thingy I go!!!

I'm not interested in the Harley's anymore but I didn't really know what I wanted. Anyway, I'm sitting in traffic about a month ago and this black ST 1100 pulls up in the lane next to me and that was IT. One look and I knew I'd have one.
While researching it I found this site, not being very imaginative I looked in the dictionary for words beginning with ST. STalker seemed appropriate as I spend quite a bit of time in the woods STalking furry critters. :rocket1:

You wouldn't believe how many folks have emailed me asking what part of the state Hoosierville is in :D

Blrfl
08-26-2005, 01:18 PM
The Blrfl story:

It was 1988, long before the World Wide Web existed and even longer before "Internet" was a household word. There was (and still is) a program on Unix systems called "vacation" that you could use to send auto-replies to incoming email to tell people you weren't there. This was about six or seven years before email spam became a problem.

Anyway, at some point, I received the following, either as someone's vacation message or someone just emailed it to me because they thought it was funny:

From: kidnappers@blrfl.space (Alien Kidnappers from the planet Blrfl)
Subject: Re: __Subject_of_email__

Mark cannot respond to your mail right now. We have kidnapped him and
are holding him on the planet Blrfl until our demands are met.
Although far too complex for mere humans to comprehend, the knowledge
Mark has acquired during his recent outings in the world of computers
makes him invaluable throughout the galaxy. Mark suggested that we
use these primitive means to convey our message to other Earthlings.
Mark is being well-treated. We have probed his subconscious, his
innermost fantasies, to find the ideal setting for Mark while we await
the Earth response to our demands. Although some of Mark's fantasies
were beyond our means to provide (and, in some cases, to understand),
he seems quite content in his new setting.

If the following demands are met, Mark will be returned to his office
on __DATE__ unharmed and well-rested. Otherwise, Mark's knowledge
will be used to improve the lives of billions of lifeforms throughout
the galaxy, all worshiping the ground he walks on, his every whim and
fancy turned immediately into reality. You see, simple Earthlings, we
can't lose. You have no chance against our superior intelligence. (By
the way, Mark wanted to add a few demands of his own to the list which
we, of course, denied).

Our demands:

- Elvis will be returned to us immediately!

- Whoever has been mutilating cattle and making crop circles, cut it
out! We don't think it's funny anymore!

- Immediately start rebroadcasting "Lost in Space." It was our
favorite TV show.

- The staff of the "Weekly World News" will report back to the planet
Blrfl right away for violating the prime directive.

- Everyone will immediately standardize on the Unix operating
system, the obvious choice of beings with higher intelligence, and
stop using all those other silly operating systems which have the
entire rest of the galaxy laughing behind your backs.

- Each and every Earthling will consume hot dogs, baked beans,
bananas, and beer for one week while we conduct atmospheric
studies on CO2 levels to determine the validity of your so-called
greenhouse effect and to potentially take corrective measures.
(And don't think we won't enjoy conducting this experiment -- we
will!)

- Dan Quayle will be given unconditional decision-making authority
for NASA and the U.S. space program.

- Lighten up! You Earthlings take things way too seriously. Galactic
comedians are constantly poking fun at and imitating Earthlings:

[ With a straight face...]

Q: How many Earthlings does it take to change a gravitron belt?
A: One.

[ Roars of laughter rattle the space continuum ]

- All so-called Yuppies will be rounded up in camps for our future
consumption (just provide them with baked brie, some wine, and a Wall
Street Journal to keep them entertained). We find these are the only
humans we can bring ourselves to eat.

I found it funny as hell then and used it for many years when I was away. There was one other demand on the list which I removed in 1991 because we were still in the grip of Nancy Regan's "Just Say No" campaign, and making comments like that would have been considered a bin Ladenesque offense:
- You will decriminalize the following drugs immediately: ...Wait a minute, what was I talking about?

Beyond vacation, I first used Blrfl when I first started using IM in about 1998. AOL wouldn't take just "Blrfl," so I added the displacement of the bike I was riding at the time, making my still-current screen name Blrfl750. I don't ride the old 750 much anymore, so I've dropped the number.

Blrfl is also used by some as a metasyntactic variable (http://www.catb.org/~esr/jargon/html/M/metasyntactic-variable.html) in the vein of foo or bar.

We decided to give him a little Cajun flavor & replaced the "O" with "EAUX".

Have that or some version of that on all my MV plates. Most people in CA, OK, & KS can't figure out what it's supposed to say. Every once in a while I run accross a CoonAss that just loves it. :D

Its a made up spelling of a character in a Japanimation movie based on a series of early Sci-Fi books (Lensman) and translated to english. Since I hadn't read the books at the time I didn't know the original spelling was so I came up with this. As an added bonus with a made up word, I've never found it taken anywhere I go.

I know, far from exciting. Too many years in the Air Force have left me a dull dried out husk. Fortunately I have an ST1100 life support unit to sustain me and give me the semblance of being a real person again.

It's a Rat... (I think is's actually a Harley term...Sorry)

Stratus... My wifes car gave up the ghost 2 weeks before our anniversary. She calls me while I'm in Grand Forks, North Dakota on business and tells me HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, GET YOUR BIKE (and from the tone LEAVE ME ALONE ABOUT IT ALREADY)... The car? A 1995 Dodge Stratus.

With 50 watts, and a 102" steel whip, I was one "bloody" 750 Ducati burning up the superslab. Back in the early 70's that's the way things were done.

joeniv
03-26-2006, 06:30 AM
my wife and I lived next door to the "dell" family. one of the dell boys was named "Joe" - which is also my name. since our house had four kids, theirs had five, all high school age or younger, it was an active neighborhood.

on occasion - either my wife or his mom would come to the door and call out - for example - "JOE - time for dinner".... he and I would look at each other and both of us would head to whoever called...

it was funny to see the look on his mom's face when I would arrive at their meal time. some times, she barely knew there was an extra...

anyway - his name became "joedell" and mine became "joeniv" one word on both parts. phonetically (sp?) - niv represents the first part of my last name. I've been joeniv everywhere ever since. shortened to -niv as a sign off...

I like to use as much of my real name when possible. In the early days of email lots of folks had really strange addresses. I just use my name. I joined a Shadow group and needed a nick name so I chose VT Jimbo as in V-Twin. When I joined this group I wanted ST Jimbo. It was taken. So I used VT (for either the reminder of the V-Twin or Virginia Tech) ST Jimbo. I live in Blacksburg, VA where Virginia Tech is.

When I signed up for internet service many years back, SBC needed a username and pw. The username could not be more than 8 characters long. Since I liked wolves, the first choice was Graywolf. Taken. Arcticwolf was my next choice but too many characters, so I just chopped it down to Artcwolf. It's worked well since few seem to have occupied it; although, I do want to change it eventually. It's not really me anymore.

TigerRider is for the old 1985 Honda Magna VF700C that I ride now. The bike is called ShereKahn, named after the evil Tiger from the Jungle Book. The bike has custom paint, with airbrushed tigers being the theme. Thus the name.

I plan on buying an ST1300 next spring to replace the 00' VFR that I just sold. I need something more comfortable for longer distances. So I'm one of those soon-to-be ST owners.

Masakado - I have been a gamer all of my life and so a long time ago I came up with Masakado. No idea that it had history but after finding that out it made the name all the better.

Taira Masakado - (903 - 940) - One of the first of the samurai to use his position for his own ends, Taira Masakado rebelled against the imperial court at Heian (Kyoto) and even proclaimed himself emperor.

I am a rebel and I have a problem with authority (when ever the wife says I can have that problem).

It's that feeling that tugs at you sometimes when the roads are clean and clear. It could be a long straightaway where you can see for miles. It could be a climbing stretch where the roads are paved very smooth and have generous banks in the turns. It can even be caused by an unusually strong tailwind. Or it's just so dang hot, you throw water on yourself and speed up to cool down. You know what I mean.

If I am riding with a group, I'll sqwauk on the radio that I have that feeling again. They know I'll be waiting for them somewhere down the road or at the next major intersection. Sometimes I'll get someone to breakaway with me - very cool.

Since it was a Cohort unit I spent 4 years with the same group I trained with
so it stuck to this day.

George = The boy's name George is pronounced jorj. It is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "farmer." Saint George, a knight who became the patron saint of England, achieved legendary status through the medieval story of his struggle with a fire-breathing dragon, symbolic of the devil. George was a royal name in England, and in the US, George Washington made it as popular. Giorgio (jee-OR-jee-oh) is an Italian form. Use of the Geordi variants may be influenced by the character Geordi LaForge on the TV series "Star Trek: The Next Generation." See also Joren, Keoki, and Yuri. Singer George Michael; fashion designer Giorgio Armani; comedians George Burns, George Carlin; baseball legend George "Babe" Ruth; US Presidents George Prescott Bush, George Herbert Walker Bush; actor George Clooney.

George has 33 variant forms: Egor, Georas, Geordi, Geordie, Georg, Georges, Georgi, Georgie, Georgio, Georgios, Georgiy, Georgy, Gheorghe, Giorgi, Giorgio, Giorgios, Giorgius, Goran, Gyorgy, Gyuri, Igor, Jerzy, Jiri, Jorgan, Jorge, Jorgen, Jurgen, Jurek, Jurik, Yorick, Yorik,

"Alas, poor Yoick, I knew him well."

Not exactly a nickname, I guess, but...

I've considered the License plate ST GEO (St. Geroge, ST George) especially after running STick down US-129 (The Dragon.) I guess DRGN SLYR would be appropriate, too. But too many characters. ;^)

More:
STick is my SSMST 91. She's named that so when the boss says, "Get on the STick", I can...

ReSTored, my black 91, is named that because... she is.

Lancealot Duluc ("Lancealot of the Lake", or so I'm told, a friend who gave it to me).

When I first read the story of King Arthur, I loved it. Especially the part of how Lancealot was the protector of the Queen and the Champion Knight. I also liked the dark or mysterious side of Merlin. I also watch or read all that I can about this period and the "myth" or "truth" of Arthur.

I have used Wizard or Merlin (and Wizard Merlin) in some form throughout the years until...a friend told me, I was very chivalrous, and that Wizard wasn't fitting, so she dubbed me Lancealotduluc, and it stuck.

SupraSabre
07-27-2006, 07:18 PM
Wall was taking over the SabMag BBS and I needed a name of some sorts. I had just finished putting a head gasket on a 87 Toyota Supra (24 valves, straight 6) and since I was riding a V45 Sabre at the time, I came up with SupraSabre. Which is also a takeoff of the 50's Fighter Jet the Super Sabre.

I sold the Supra to one of my sons, he wore it out (225k) so he bought another one (89) and it now needs an engine, so i bought it from him figuring I would put an engine in it and drive it to work when I needed to take the cage. But now he wants it back, so I'll be Supra-less again and if I sell the V65 Sabre, I'll be Sabre-less also. I was thinking of changing it to No-Supra-No-Sabre!...:D

My nickname is also my license plate and it is as much for a few with whom I ride with as it is for me. Some willl know that the ST1300/Pan European was referred to as the "Beemer killer" in Europe when it was first released because it basically crushed the BMW RT's.

So, in consideration that a few buddies I ride with choose to ride Big Money Wasted RT's it seemed appropriate and humorous that they read RTETR (RT eater) whilst trailing behind.

I don't journey into off topic threads much, so I just found this one.

Spakinator...

When I went to work for an OSB (Oriented Strand Board) mill 10 years ago, there was another David on shift and, to avoid confusion, they stuck a nickname on me. I was running the furnace so Sparky just seemed natural. Within 6 months I had changed jobs to running the dryers and thats where the name stuck (we were just recently out of start up so the mill still had a lot of issues to be worked out and it was not uncommon to have fires on the dryers). From Sparky, it has morphed into Sparkomatic, Sparklicious, Sparkman, Sparkinator, etc. The list goes on and on and on...

Sparky is one of the first usernames to go, so now I just pick one of the more obscure deviations of it. But I did eliminate Sparklicious

DuSTer

Like a few others on this forum, I too spent most of my adult life in the cockpit of different types of helicopters.

During helo operations close to ground, the rotor system will pick up and send flying most everything that is not secured to the ground. This problem was particularly severe in the Sikorsky CH54B 'Skycrane' Heavy Lift Helicopter.

Hovering to pick up or to deliver a heavy load (The B Model Crane could lift up to 25000 lb's) we would create tremendous, hurricane force rotor wash. The wind velocity under and around the hoverig aircraft could reach - depending on the weight of the load- in excess of 80-90mph. Consequently, when opertaing in or out of unimproved areas -which
was most of the time - we usualy created a giant Dust Bowl, visible for miles.

I hope this explains the origin of my callsign: "DuSTer".

In a Platoon I was in, there were two other Chris Sawyer's.

One got to stay Chris Sawyer, one got to become Tom Sawyer, and I got turned into Buck Sawyer. Or just Buck.

I see this thread has pretty much run it's course, so I guess I'm resurrecting it as a new member to the STOC site and recent visitor to the thread... I earned SPIKE as a nickname back in the 80's when I wore my hair in a certain, vertical spikey style- It stuck as did the nickname - I do have a lot of fun with it though... When people inquire of it's origin, as the word SPike implies, I explain, (or exclaim) Well! I can't show you here in public! The double entendre bewilders most, of course I then I provide the "PG" rated explanation... It's all about the fun!

In Maori (Native New Zealander) language, Koro means old man or grandad.

I've got grey hair and a granddaughter so I figure I qualify for Koro John.

I don't ordinarily go by my nickname. When I was four years old (many moons ago) the lady next door named me "B C you little bast*rd!" She still calls me that, so I guess it's a nickname. LOL!!

I'm originally from Indiana and am a big IU basketball fan. So when my job brought me to Missouri I thought I may actually have a chance to get an IM4IU license plate on my bike. I sent in the application along with a couple of alternates should IM4IN already be taken. I was puting my new plate 4INer on my bike when a neighbor came by and said "foreigner huh?" We laughed about it, and the name stuck. And since I'm a firm believer that this worlds not my home, it kind of fits too. It's also the way I feel when ever I walk into my local STealer's showroom and try to get some help...........:)

Ashrack

This thread inspired me to change my account name. cadiletta is just my name, and I never use that for forums except this one (I have no idea why). So back to my usual handle of Ashrack.

I love the series Stargate SG1, and this name comes from that show. The main characters on this show are military, but normal humans, while the "bad guys" are these part human part symbiont people, Goa'uld. Well there's an extreme elite group of assassin Goa'uld called the Ashracks. So if you're being hunted by an Ashrack, you are in trouble. I guess you could call it a bad-*** alien-augmented ninja.

So that's my online handle. Ashrack.

cbob
07-05-2007, 08:05 AM
Ok, I stumbled into this thread from another topic, but now you've got me and I must respond!

cbob is short for crazy bob. I had a friend in college that had a VERY SHY 4 year old daughter that pretty much did not talk. Nada. Not a word. Except, that is, when I would be coming over to his house on my 71 Ossa Pioneer, 73 Rickman 125 or 75 XL125 with the Supertrapp exhaust (the 'R' version LOL). He would hear me coming up the road and tell his daughter "Here comes that Crazy Bob", to which she would start running around the house exclaiming "Crazy Bob! Crazy Bob! Crazy Bob!". By the time I got there she would be back into silent mode. Nada. Not a word. Zippo. I think maybe in the whole time I knew this guy, who looked like a hippie dropout from the Vietnam War (which he was) and complete with a VW microbus, I only heard his daughter utter maybe 5 words.

Anyway, the name stuck since then and is the name I use around any motorcycling folk, although abbreviated now so I don't alienate the general public.

Best,
- c bob
