Just got back from spending 3 days in the Ozarks. My second trip there and had more time to explore than the first time. All I can say about the Ozarks is pick a road, just about any road. There are so many good ones. If all you have ever done in Arkansas is drive across it on I-30 like I have prior to riding in the Ozarks you have no idea what is there. Everything from sport bike nirvana to big sweeping turns and undulations through all kinds of rolling hills. You will think you are in a whole different place. Check it out if you get a chance.

Arkansas is great, and so close to Dallas.
Last time I was up there with a small group we got lost and we didn't even care... We rode Hwy 23, some of Hwy 7 and 341.. yeeeeehaaaaa

Isnt that one of the best roads you have ever been on? It brings out the sport bike rider wanna-be in me. Another good one is 123, especially the bottom part of it where it runs north from 164 about 15 miles west of 7. And then there is .........

That runs by the Hurricane Creek Wilderness Area and spits out on 7 at Pelsor where there is an old country store of interest to fossil freaks. 16 out of Pelsor is also nice...

Lived here for thirty years and I've never found another place to equal NW Arkansas for great riding. You have mentioned only a few a the great roads, some of the best are the little traveled county roads.

Later September / early October is a great time in the Ozarks. There is a BBBQ (bikes, blues, and barbecue) the last week-end of September. There will be as many as 30,000 bikes here in town. The population of Fayetteville literally doubles. It generally runs Thursday through Sunday. It would really be hard to get a motel on short notice that week-end. They filmed one the Great Biker Build-off TV series episodes here last year. Lots of vendors to see and adult beverage places to visit. The down side to that week-end is that the highways a plugged with Harleys and they won't get out of the way.

I'm sure I will stay clear of that weekend...

OK, JW. Fess up. What are some of the little traveled county roads? I did most of my riding based on Mario Caruso's Arkansas Riders Guide and covered most of what was referenced between 341 and the Pig Trail. If there are more roads out there my inquiring mind wants to know. I will be back.

I just got back from Arkansas on Thursday myself (also spent 3 days riding the Ozarks). It is quite beautiful down there. 123 was one of the best roads we found, got the pegs to scrape on it (which still freaks me out)...met some great guys that were staying at our hotel and ended up hanging out with and riding with them (so if you saw a BMW 1150RT, a Triumph Sprint, a VFR800 and a silver ST together that was us). I didn't see another ST1300 on our travels in the area.
We used the same book to find routes to ride out of Eureka Springs.
Great times, Great times.
We loved the riding there. The Pig Iron trail was awsome as were nearly every road we took. I hope to get there again.

I'll have to dig the gazetteer out and post some of the finer. I'm not sure that they even have a letter. One is about a mile east of Elkins on Hwy 16 and turns south and runs to old Hwy 71. WOW! Went on one of my favorites Monday morning, Hwy 90 out of Noel, Missouri. Don't you just love corners that change radius on top of a hill. Talk about scraping the foot pegs.
