View Full Version : No heat issue with the 05

I just got back from putting on over 3100 miles on my 05. I ran in temps up to 97 degrees. This includes being stuck, for around 5 miles, in creeping traffic going through Portland. The temperature at the time was 94 degrees. The bottom line is there is absolutley no heat issue with my 05. I mean zero, zip, nada. My ST1100 had noticeable heat on the left side top shelter, but the ST1300 had none. So, did Honda change the FI programing or add heat shielding? Hard for me to believe there wasn't a problem with all the *****ing about it.

Congratulations. I would like to believe that I have "Zero, Zip, Nada" heat with my '03, and it is usually true. Sometimes, however, it seems that if the wind direction and speed, my rpm's and speed, the temperature of the day and, perhaps, the position of the Zordiac, are all lined up just right, there will be some heat. Not enough to bother but something to make one wonder what the real truth is about these bikes and why some people have a heat problem and some do not. :)

Phil,

Were you wearing riding pants or just jeans?

Phil,

I wear heavy jeans from Aerostitch called Arborwear. Far heavier material then blue jeans, and look good in a faded black color.

I highly recommend them. I also wear SIDI boots.

the second day after I got my 05 I went for a ride and the heat was BAD.
I had heard about the heat before, and I didn't believe it could be this bad.
I was wearing jeans with shoes. The ambient temperature that day was
93-97 degrees F. Phil I am glad yours doesn't put out the heat like mine does. As I said earlier, I had heard and read about the heat in the 03 models, but I just figured that Honda had fixed this issue.

My 05 was hotter than any of my other bikes. I could tolerate it when moving, but when I was in stop and go rush hour traffic it was very uncomfortable.

Its not too bad now. I am using the neoprene blanket, have vented the radiator side panels and I am using the CALSCI wings.

The heat is my only compaint about the bike.

So what the hell is happening? Mine has no problems, and yours does. Does it depend on what you are wearing? Heat tolerance? I just don't understand what the difference is. All I can say is I will no longer worry about ridding in any temperature.

Mine gets a little toasty... but it really depends on what I'm doing... :D Did I just open her up to pass and drop back down... heat. Am I just cruising... normal. When she gets hot... my shins let me know... but I can deal with it... she is worth every degree of hot! :p:

Will probably add some mods to help deflect the heat before summer really gets here soon.

Being in Florida it stays quite warm here, mine puts out no more heat than my 1100 did. I think a lot of the heat issue is rider tolerance. Half the time I read where people say the heat is terrible and half say its not a problem. I guess I fall under its not a problem crowd

Mine puts out heat - but I really don't mind. If my legs get too warm, I just spread them out into the air flow for a short while. It's not a big deal with me.

'04 here, Heat is not a problem... Have had smaller bikes that put out a lot more heat than this one...

Same here, no heat troubles so far with the 05.

I probably wouldn't complain much about the heat if I didn't live where it is so hot in the afternoon.

Crawling in rush hour traffic for 30-40 minutes with the temp 95-100 on my ST is damn hot. If I lived in the North I would probably welcome the heat!

LOL!!! :cf1: Roasting chestnuts by the open fire... ;) The only difference between the ST and the other bikes I've had is the heat exits right out on your leg.

So what the hell is happening?...
I have no idea. My 05 has no heat problems so far. In 88F weather, wearing just jeans and riding boots, I can't feel any significant heat when moving. When still or creeping I feel a little heat, but no worse than any other bike I've ridden.

With all the heat talk I was expecting to need an asbestos suit, but so far no problems.

I cant wait to feel some heat. It hasn't been above 70 in the 2 weeks since I bought my bike, averaging highs of 60ish, and lows around 55. Very comfortable, but looking forward to summer.
