View Full Version : Spring replacement
Guys my preload bottoms out with wife riding with me. I set it at 1.5 inchs for me but with her can't get sag less than 2 inchs. My weight and wife amount to about 360# not including gear. Ride seems ok but would heavier spring be in order. Need recomendations on what options are availible.

Adding a spacer will change the sag but does not change the spring rate. With a heavy load you want a stiffer spring rate to control compression. A spring rate that gets you at minimum preload for one up riding should still give you enough adjustability for two up given the preload adjust range.
Do hyperpro springs increase capacity of bike and did you replace both front and rear

If the stock rear shock is retained and the HyperPro spring is installed over it, is the stock Pre-Load adjustment knob still used or do you have to use a spanner wrench on the HyperPro spring?

Actually, you'd do better to get a standard rate spring rather than a progressive spring. The progressive spring may initially give you a cushier ride but could be more prone to binding and have a negative impact on traction.

Gene, my bike has Hyper Pro springs front & rear you can ck it out on Saturday if you like , they have worked well for me & been on my bike for 95K.

I may check on a wilbers set-up as we are riding a lot more spirited these days and our rear spring is bottoming out a lot these days.
After rethinking this one, a hyperpro rear spring for $109 versus a wilbers for around $900-1K is a lot easier to accept. do the hyperpros increase rear ride height or have a higher load rate, the bottoming out was a real issue today on a back roads ride with others
