Ok,,, with the wide diverse group we have here we should have some REALLY interesting finds!!! Lets Hear Them!!!
I will start off with my Top 10 list...
# 1 ~~~ Played Softball and went to movies with Larry Bird... Indiana State was just 30 miles away and Bird and I were about the same age...
# 2 ~~~ Was backstage during 2 different "Farm Aid" shows... I talked to Elton John about what it was like on a real family farm... He later came back and sang just as Ryan White was dieing of Aids that night and dedicated the song to him...
# 3 ~~~ Was at Austin city limits when Stevie Ray Vaughan played his final show there... Also 1 night in a small club downtown where I was able to talk to him... I had tickets to see him play at Alpine Valley his last show but was unable to get away from the farm to see him... I get sad,,, every time I know he is gone... :(
# 4 ~~~ Was friends with Todd Worrell a relief pitcher for the Cardinals and he got us in to set on the bench before games and hang around the batting cage... THAT,,, will spoil you BIG TIME!!!
# 5 ~~~ Have rode around the Indy Track in the Corvette pace car 2 different years,,, and because of getting in the "Mother of All" traffic jams this year on Carberation Day I missed chance # 3...
# 6 ~~~ I HAVE,,, Kissed,,, Danica Patrick!!! The first woman to lead the Indy 500... :D
# 7 ~~~ I was interviewed by Biff Henderson down in the pits for the Letterman show at Indy a few years ago but,,, as god as my witness,,, it was scrapped because I made Biff laugh to much...
# 8 ~~~ I have rode over 1,000 miles on a Motorcycle,,, in 24 hours or less 4 times... AND,,, all 4 times I had no idea/thought/reason/need/clue I was going that far,,, in that amount of time when I left...
# 9 ~~~ I have rode a motorcycle,,, crashed,,, and entered the inside of a Cadillac through the Back Window which was going the same direction as me after a Packer game,,, and walked away,,, unhurt...
# 10 ~~~ Ate a Large Chicago Style Gino's East Deep Dish Pizza with extra sauce and the sausage patty,,, by my self,,, in less than 45 minutes!!! 3 DIFFERENT TIMES!!!

) Picked pineapples for Dole during my High School summers in HI to fund my music and skateboard needs... :D
) Walked across Kilauea crater 2 weeks before it started to errupt in 77...
) Been in Top Secret underground military facility... totally self sustaining for 3 years in case of attack... real cool!
) Met David Byrne and rest of The Talking Heads at Hobby airport during their Fear Of Music tour... that was amazing... to me anyway... total genious! :bow1:
) My father in-law was a friend of and used to go to school/play football with Bufford Pusser of Walking Tall fame.
Not as notable as yours... :D
1) Wife went into labor-- skipped the contraction stage and went right into the birthing part-- in the bathtub at home around midnight. Had to deliver our daughter with 911 operator on the other end of the phone before paramedics arrived. While they were writing the report afterwards, I hyperventilated and passed out.
2) Met the actual Maria Von Trapp (Sound of Music). I was skiing in Vermont and went into a restaurant that she ran. Amazing-- who doesn't know the story of the Von Trapps escape from Nazi Germany (singing those corny songs the whole way) ???? My theory is the Nazis let the Von Trapps go on purpose just so they would not have to put up with their singing. :p: Very charming woman though.
3) Won a radio contest to meet George Thorogood (I know, big deal) and party with him and a bunch of groupies back stage. Highlight of the entire trip was in the back of the limo and having some amorous interaction with the drummer's daughter (but then again who didn't) :D
4) Performed the most flawless 40 foot burnout in my Mustang (complete with smoke ala John Force, etc.)--- right in front of the local sheriff. Let me go with a warning !!
5) Caught 2 foul balls at Veterans Stadium--- Phillies/Mets-- in the same game, in the same inning !! :)

Well compared to others on this Forum….
1. I was born, raised and still live in Australia
2. I married my childhood sweetheart (who is also the world’s best pillion) in London
3. I have done 1,077 skydives (some at Perris Valley, out of LA)
4. When my sister and I travelled the USA and Canada in 1983, we stayed in Washington DC at the home of our Aunt’s friend. The Aunt’s friend was away at the time, but her border was home. The border worked in the photographic section of the White House at the time and she arranged to take us on a personal guided tour of parts of the White House while the Reagan’s were out of town. We had to hand over our passports and cameras at the front gate, so we were given 8”x10” colour photos off the shelves of the storeroom. These included various shots of Ronnie, Nancy and the family, the inauguration and the royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II. Our evening tour included a look in the door of the Oval Office while a large guard stood looking over us. Amazing décor in that place! I guess this will never be possible again.

Can only come up with three that sort of stick out from the earlier years. Hopefully I'm not done:
1) Paddled a dug-out canoe from Puerto Asis to Leguizimo, Colombia, solo.
2) Hitch-hiked more than 30k miles over various countries.
3) Kayaked solo from Juneau to Ketchikan, the long way, in an 8-week journey.
As concerns the pursuit of beauty, the bicycling has been, and maybe will be in the future, a major part of the adventure. But lots of people do that, which fact is kind of wonderful to realize.

Some random events in cronological order...
* as a Teen I dove off a 15' cliff at a local water filled quarry ( 20' deep) and brought up a handful of pebbles to prove I touched bottom, and came up with a commemorative Mexican Silver dollar from the 1964 Olympics. I still have it.
* 1980 I drove 1600 miles from Key West home to Milwaukee on my CX 500 Honda "non-stop" in 30 hours. Note the speed limit was 55 back then.
* In my mid 20's tried skydiving. The first 5 times I ever went up in any airplane, I jumped out.
*Around 30, I met Ted Nugent at a sport show as he was selling apparel and autographs. I was such an obnoxious drunk that he not only called me a "worthless whore" but wrote that on my cap. I saved that also.
* As I have matured, I have become "boring" according to my kids, but find myself in a very select group of ST riders, who together I ride alone with.

Got drunk with a bunch of Oakland chapter Hells Angels while
watching a concert at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
Visited the Christian Brothers Winery in Napa so many times
that they knew us by name, and took us stright to the tasting
room rather than the tour.
Filled up a fountain in Germany with Wisk Laundry detergent..
(Man, I never saw so many soap suds in my entire life)

Ok...my life stinks compared to some of you guys. I never met anyone famous.
Here's my list:
1) Back when I was a kid I rode my unicycle everywhere I went. I could juggle and ride the unicycle at the same time. with a little practice I might still could do it.
2) Back in 1985 I won the Meriden, CT. computer programming contest. Back when the only language taught was Basic. Computers were a new idea back then. After that I moved on to pascal, cobal, and eventually a little Visual Basic. Never really when anywhere with it.
3) Rubiks Cube.....I love to do the Rubik's Cube as a kid. I solved it in 1 minute 17 seconds once. I can still do it, but not as fast.
See I told ya....my life stinks in comparison.
Yeah well I'd rather be able to solve a Rubik's cube than have met the Stray Cats :) I never did get one solved, not once.
Wow, you folks are hard to follow. I only have a couple I can think of.
Just last week I was golfing with my father and on a par 5, 505 yd. hole I shot an eagle. The great part was that the 3rd shot was from about 160 yd out and sunk it.
Saw the Beatles at Olympia stadium in Detroit on 8/13/1966. That was quite an experience.
Free dive to 90' and get bottom time.
Have visited about every major Mayan Ruin in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. Started following "La Routa Maya" about 15 years ago. It's became a hobby.

1. Took part in the biggest helicopter raid since Vietnam, flying off of the USS Roosevelt to assault the airport in Port Au Prince, Haiti. Of course, they all ran before we got there.
2. Laid down covering fire and assisted in the rescue of some Rangers in Mogadishu, Somalia. Survived, luckily.
3. Drove a truckload of food up the most dangerous mountain pass I've ever seen to an orphanage in Haiti, on Thanksgiving day. Then had to drive back down the same way
4. Got 14 medals in 7 years.
5. While test flying an experimental homebuilt airplane, managed to get it into a tail slide while doing a low speed stall test. Plane then dropped the left wing and went into a tight left spin. Was only at 2500 feet, managed to pull out of the spin at 150mph and 400 feet above the ground. Still had to fly the damn thing back to the airport. Had to change shorts afterwards.
6. Had lunch with Robin Williams in Las Vegas. Well, sorta. He was sitting at the table behind us :D
7. Got 2nd place in the IKF Texas State Championship, the first year I was racing karts. This was in 2002. I sure do miss those gokarts now.

Wow, this really makes you think about ones own life. In no particular order, or too much thought...
Married a wife who is still my best friend. Have a daughter who loves us. (life goal....check)
Pissed on the Berlin Wall 3 months before it came down (was apparently somewhat of a custom as indicated by who had pee'd where). Actually some of the most amazing artwork I had ever seen was on that wall (funny, beautiful and/or serious).
Got a job working for NASA (life goal....check!)
Hiked 30 miles in the back country of Yellowstone in one day, set up camp and ran 3 miles to a geyser basin close to Lake Shoshone, and ran back 3 miles to our camp. (got severely rained in and couldn't cook the food we brought, due to the rain) and left in a couple days being VERY hungry.
Auditioned and was accepted as a member of "The Drifters" (you know, Under the Boardwalk) for a revival tour. Backed out when they said they were playing in Japan and could only afford one-way tickets, with one gig lined up and were going to "earn" there money for the return flight. As it turns out, they did very well. DOH!
Recently watched my mother die from a long bout with Cancer.
Walked to an island in the North Sea. The tide is so large there that the sea recedes away and you walk several kilometers out to the island before the tide comes back in.
Things on my short term radar....
I've signed up and been approved for flights on the new Vomit Comet.
Buying an ST1300 on July 1rst so I can go touring (another life goal...check)
Making my first "real" music CD (had made three amatuer) but the new one should be out in September. (life goal....check)
Doo....
Turned down The Drifters.....
Oh man.......

I guess I should note it wasn't for singing (as I sing about as well as a frog). But as the band backing them. The keyboardist I was with did not have any family financial support (who also won the audition) and didn't know what he would do. My parents were nice enough to offer to get me home should we flop on the road, but I couldn't put that burden on them for my good friend, the keyboardist. Had the tour not been booked so quickly, we would have earned enough money before leaving.
I've tried to decide if I should regret it, but I think it would have certainly led down a completely different path for me. That path would have had it's pro's and con's, but I don't think I'd have the same level of "security" that I can provide my family and myself. I was greatful to have the opportunity and the effort to win. When I was younger, I always thought playing on the road had a certain mystic and exotic edge to it. But after reading many of the stories or hearing them first hand from top musicians, it sounds like it mostly is a bummer.
I've often contemplated the "risk" of motorcycle riding as so many people (who don't know anything about bikes) will tell me to "be careful" or "you're gonna get killed". The conclusion I've come to is that if you aren't living your life the way you want to live, then you are merely existing. Some risks need to be taken. I decided that if I didn't ride, I would end up regretting it.
The stories on this site help solidify my mindset. (comfort in numbers). Knowing that it's something you simply MUST do.

Man, in some ways this is depressing. I can't help but think of all the things I haven't done. But I've had a good life and here are some of the things that would be on my list.
1) Played golf with Roger Clemens when he was with the Red Sox.
2) Have broken 70 playing golf, numereous times, and set one course record.
3) Fished the Snake River with my Dad before he was too old to go.
4) Have a beautiful wife, three kids, and my own house. All of which, as a young man, I never thought I would have the opportunity to have.
5) Started my own business when I was only twenty three, and over the last twenty years, I have employed over one hundred and fifty people and I believe that by being employed at my company, their lives have been better.
On a side note, I am truly humbled by the accomplishments of you guys. One can tell the moral fiber of the people who populate this board by the comments that are displayed on this site. I am honored to be included in this group. You all amaze me. And to the guys that run this site, my hat is off. Thank you and a donation will be coming from me, as soon as I pay for all these darn farkles.

I'm thankful every day for the wonderful people I worked with and the experiences I had. I'm still and always will be a part of the nike culture.
I was a semi-finalist for "Survivor: The Outback". I would have loved being on the show and "down under".
When I was in my teens, we lived in a huanted house. The female ghost would show herself in my mirror at night, and sometimes she would rattle plates, glasses and silverware in the kitchen. We considered her our friend.
I've met about 500 people, physically, who I got to know from online SIG's like ST-Owners.com. I still have a few hundred more to meet!
I learned to ride a motorcycle less than a year ago. I took my first long (1400 mile) trip last week on an ST that I've owned for a month. I'm 53 years old.
I've had my picture in two magazines....."Time" and "Life"
I met my husband when I was 47, and I have not been bored a day since meeting him. I can't imagine life without him. Every moment is awesome!!

Only a few for me:
1. Met Bo Schembeckler - coaching record at Michigan was 194-48-5 with 13 Big Ten championships. He is the winningest football coach in UofM history. His overall coaching record in 27 seasons (including six at Miami University) was 234-65-8. Bo Schembeckler never had a losing season and at his retirement he ranked as the winningest active coach in college football's Division I.
2. Did 120mph down I-696 (right by state trooper outpost)
3. Been to 47 States
4. Went to the Tiger game that won the American league pennant in 1984. Have a piece of Tiger Stadium turf in my parents front yard.
5. Rode 1400 Miles in 20 hours on a ST
6. Rode the ST without the bags

Wow... I THOUGHT,,, there would be great list and stories but,,, this is far better than I dreamed,,, and they just keep coming!!! This,,, is to cool!!!
After reading others list,,, reminded me of a few more...
# 11 ~~~ 5 out of the last 6 years I go with a local group from here that goes into Mexico to help/fix/build/repair at a Orphanage Mission... I take back more,,, than I ever give there seeing kids with no TV/Playstations/Bicycles but are all happy,,, and Loved... I take "The Lovely Cindy's" son with me now and he gets to see at the tender age of 12,,, he is a very lucky person to be as fortunate as we are...
# 12 ~~~ I Kissed,,, Linda Ronstadt... Now,,, I had tickets to see "Jerry Jeff Walker" in Tucson and Jerry,,, well,,, this was back in his drinking days was 1 hour late because he was drunk... Linda was at the show backstage for some reason... About 45 minutes of waiting,,, and the people were PISSED!!! About 1/2 left... Jerry comes out to sing finally and everyone boos,,, BOOS I SAY!!! They boo for the first 4 songs because he is drunk!!! Before that night,,, I never knew JJW,,, though,,, later in Austin I ate lunch and supper with him 2 times... This was AFTER,,, he quit drinking... 8^)
Anyway,,, about Linda... After the debacle called the show,,, we were standing up front talking before leaving and Linda walks up and stands beside me... I did not know that Linda's parents lived just right behind my sisters house just outside the Tucson Country club... My 1 sister and her friend had became really close and when Linda and her were talking 1 day they said they both were going to the JJW concert... My sister told her I was in LOVE,,, yes,,, L O V E,,, with Linda Ronstadt!!! And,,, well,,, damn it,,, I was too... I got a hard on even thinking about her in those roller skates and curly hair on the album cover...
ANYWHO,,, Linda stands right beside me as I was telling a story (((imagine that))) and when I got to the funny part and people laughed Linda laughed,,, put her hand squarely on my lower ***,,, and squeezed... I turn towards her,,, realized who it was,,, for the first time in my life,,, I was speachless... My mouth dropped open,,, Linda runs her hands through my hair and says,,, "OOOoooHHHhhh,,, Carol,,, you didn't tell me he was tall and good looking"!!! Then,,, she proceeded to give me a French kiss that lasted at LEAST,,, 25 seconds all the while having 1 hand on my ***,,, the other with her fingers pushed down the front of my pants so to pull me towards her... As God,,, as my witness,,, if I did not have thick cotton underwear,,, with thick cotton pants on,,, you would have been able to see this H U G E,,, wet spot when she got done with me... Got stuck out at sea swimming off Bermuda. Very big jellyfish formed a barrier  & I had to stay out for about 30 mins before the coast (ha ha) was clear.
Did just under an indicated 180mph on a ZX9 in France
Waved at Princess Diana and she waved back
Got stuck in Warsaw airport late at night & had to go another 250kms.
Didnt know any Polish at the time. Had to bribe a Mafia run taxi driver to escort me to the right train so I could get on my way. The railway stations there can be very dangerous ! :(
Once drank 18 1/2 pints of Guinness in an evening (and managed to walk home). :D

I attended the SuperBowl in 1984, between the Redskins and Raiders. Wasn't happy about the outcome, though. More of a circus than a football game.

#1 and most important (but not very unique) I became a Christian
#2 91' Indiana State IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) Champ
#3 79' Ind. State Football Champ team
#4 ate dinner with Richard & Kyle Petty
#5 unofficial "Pin Shoot" world record (shotgun). This is a form of shooting competition where they line up 5 bowling pins across an 8 foot table, 33 feet away. You start with your shotgun shouldered but with the muzzle resting at a 90 deg. angle on a saw horse. When the electronic timer signals, you raise your shotgun and shoot all 5 pins off the table as fast as possible. My time was 1.72 seconds.
#6 shot a perfect 100 round of Sporting Clays
#7 got picked out of the crowd at a Colt's game to watch the game from the sidelines and won 4 round trip tickets to the Virgin Islands.

1. Remember falling face-first into a campfire at age 3, seriously burning my hands as I landed in the "push-up" position.
2. Was inside the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City a few weeks before it was attacked. Was in the barracks at Kobar Towers (Saudi Arabia) several months before it was attacked. Was at the World Trade Center before it was attacked. Was at the Pentagon a few months before it was attacked. I'm not making any predictions, but the last place I worked was the White House, and I left there last September.
Enough with the negative! Some positive unique experiences:
3. Met in a small Bible study group (about 20 people) with Rick Warren, author of Purpose Driven Life. He led our study that week, and it was awesome. I talked with him for a couple of minutes after the study, and he asked me for my address. He sent me a personal letter and a CD of one of his sermons about a week later. Very cool! How do you get Rick Warren to come to your Bible study? Well, it was the White House Bible study, so...
4. Just yesterday, as I was riding my ST1300 towards the North Parking area of the Pentagon, a motorcycle cop was approaching from the other direction (on what appeared to be a ST1300!), and he waved to me! First time a motorcycle cop has waved to me (other than to pull me over - LOL).
5. As a gradeschooler, went to Madison Square Garden on a field trip, where I got to be in the studio audience of the hit show "Bowling For Dollars!"

Only one comes to mind right now.
While on vacation in Acapulco, I met some of the cliff divers that dive off the cliffs (duh) at El Mirador, you know, the ones they used to have on Wide World of Sports all the time. Anyway, I hooked up with one that was going to be running the next show from down in the water. I was with him the whole time. I actually dove from the cliff (OK, so I was only 15-20 feet up...LOL) and stayed down in the channel while the rest of the divers did the show. When you climb out, you have to ride a wave in and get started just right on the cliff with the correct foot, cuz theres only so many hand/footholds, and they have to be started on the correct foot, or you cant reach the next one.

OK... here's one for the books! Broke both of my wrists during summer of 77. Vacationed on the Big Island... my brother and I took lava rock from Kilauea, which is a BIG no no... Pele, the godess of Kilauea punishes those doing this. My brother broke his right arm skateboarding within a week after returning from vacation... 2 weeks later I was at teen rec center for last summer dance before school started... around midnight was outside goofing around on a big swing... flew out about 100 feet... voila... 2 broken wrists!
After getting out of Tripler Hospital, my brother and I packed up the rocks and sent them back to the monitoring station/park. :bow1: Sorry Pele!

Regularly drove a 49 Chevy standard transmission on private dirt road at 8yrs. old (sat on pillows and ducked under dash to push clutch and shift).
Friend and I welded up and built our own go Kart at 12 yrs. old (had help with front end geometry).
Did a little mountian climbing as a teen.
Been to Asia: Took a bad Hand Grenade wound in Viet Nam (8 months in hospital, years to recover dropped from 165 lbs. to 109lbs. of bones).
After the above, worked hard to get strength back. Worked up to Semi Pro MotoX and did OK.
Years after during Motorcycle Hair Scramble in woods hit opposite stream bank topped out in 5th gear, over bars, way up in air-landed square on head, paralyzed from neck down for 5-10 minutes (unusually frightening experience). After movement returned, another rider straightened forks and bars close to in line, and kick started bike (I couldn't). Pretty big ouch, but I managed to ride the bike back to the pits on my own, 4 or 5 miles through the rugged wooded terrain.
Pulled heavy scaffolding up hand over hand in wind, with rope, up on 150 ft. high Billboard while standing on wire grid see through platform 4ft. wide, no railing (had to lean over edge, pickup truck looked size of a quarter, I didn't like it when that job came around).
Walked 12 inch wide I beam on top of Billboard to set hooks (4 times per job did a dozen jobs there) 85 ft. in the air.
Got a hole in 1 on a 135 ft. hole, even though I truly suck at Golf.
Do paintings professionally
Momma stayed home with the kids while self employed.
Will be married 32 years in August and am damn happy about it.
Driven cross country (not on bike) and been North, Central, South in the East, Middle, and West of our fine country.
Owning an ST is odd enough to qualify as "not usual" :D :)

Man, you guys are interesting... kinda makes me feel like I've led a sheltered life...
I took my mom for a Mother's day ride back in 2002. She was 73, hadn't been on a bike since she was 36 and I hadn't ever been on a bike 'til I was 36. I wrote a quick email to Wing World since their next issue would cover the month of May. I was surprised to get that issue and find they not only published my email as an article w/pic but DIDN'T edit it.. so, all the grammar and spelling mistakes were kept for all to see. (article below)
But, once my Mom saw the magazine she just about fell over crying and that was more than worth it... Maybe not all that much of a rare incident as lots of people take their mom, dad, children on MC rides but for me and my family it really was a rare occasion. She shows that article to everyone that comes by and one of the other reasons I got the wing was to be able to give her some more rides in the future, she's always asking if I brought the other helmet with me... I'm going to get her her own now.
The second thing that I can state is that I have, along with Charlie, helped in building site where a ST owners can communicate and those connections will build friendships that will last lifetimes.
That's about it for me... okay, I did see Barry Manilow in the DFW airport once a couple years ago ... but his people rushed him out like he was worried about being trampled by screaming fans... I don't remember seeing anyone sitting there but myself and an old guy reading a newspaper..

Most of my adult life, my dream was to design and build my own energy efficient country home. When I was 31, my wife and I moved to Tennessee, purchased 51 acres, and spent a year and a half building our dream home. It`s earth sheltered, passive solar, with solar water heating. It works well, is comfortable and low maintaince. We`ve been living in it for 20 years now, my next dream is to build a trike, so if anyone knows where I can get a complete front end from a large motorcycle, and a drive train from a small front engine 4 cyl, automatic transmission , rear wheel drive car, please let me know. Did a cross country tour in 1976 for the Bicentenial. Caught the July 4th fireworks in Kings Canyon National Park- slides, since there was a serious drought at the time. The audience oohed and aahed just the same.
I was in an airliner that had to make an emergency landing in Indianapolis because of a bulge that developed in a wing. Al Unser was in the same line with us as the airline tried to arrange other flights for us. He was not a happy camper. Later that same trip we were stranded in Hot Springs Arkansas because of 9/11. Had to drive home in a rented car. Turned a four day trip into one that lasted 10 days.

2. 3. Travel to Germany yearly and train with German Police K-9 dogs and officers.
4. Have/had 2 loving parents. Gave my Dad CPR (very tough), revivied him and he died 3 hours later at the hospital.
5. Found my 11 month old son deceased from SIDS, against advise from the mortuary.... I personally sealed his casket in the Mousolieum.... I would have no stranger do that.

Just though of a couple more interesting experiences I had:
6. Was shopping at Neiman Marcus in Tysons Corner, Virginia, when Simon Cowell (American Idol judge) strolled by. He was in town because they were doing auditions for the 2005 season in Washington, DC at the time.
7. Served on a jury - was elected foreman. We found the defendant innocent. We wished we could have found the plaintiffs guilty, because they had obviously faked injuries in order to get cash from the defendant. They lied and contradicted themselves so many times during that trial - what a poorly prepared case.

In no particular order...
1. The editor-in-chief of the Oxford English Dictionary bought me a pint of ale. He spoke at Trinity College, Oxford University where I was a student (on scholarship!). During his opening remarks, he asked if anyone in the audience knew the longest non-scientific word in the OED. I raised my hand. (When your father is a Professor of English you pick up some interesting bits of knowledge). He asked if I could pronounce the word, define it, and use it in a sentence. I did all three. [floccinaucinihilipilification (noun), the estimation of something as worthless; "His floccinaucinihilipilification of money led him to seek spiritual fulfillment."] He looked surprised, said I was correct, and asked if he could buy me a pint later. I said OK. Pretty cool experience for someone who went on to make his living with words.
2. For my 40th birthday my wife threw me a surprise party (first one of my life -- totally surprised!) at one of the best restaurants in New England, full of my friends and family. But for my birthday present she said, "You're 40 and you have a new bike. Just go. Call me once in a while and let me know where you are." I spent 9 days solo in Maine and Nova Scotia, then published my experience in Rider so I even made money on the trip!
3. One day while I was rock climbing in Connecticut, a group from a summer camp came to the rock. Part way up the rock a young camper freaked at the height she'd attained and froze. She wanted to get down but wouldn't grab onto the rope so she could be slowly lowered to the ground. The group leader yelled at her to let go of the rock, which only got her more frightened. How this guy got to be in charge of kids participating in such an activity I'll never know. I opened my lunch bag, clenched a bunch of grapes between my teeth, and free climbed up next to the girl. I said, "Hi, I'm Bones, want some grapes?" She said OK. I held out the bunch and she pulled off a grape. As she reached for another I said, "See? You can let go of the rock. When you're done eating grapes, put your hands on the rope and they'll help you down." With two feet back on the ground the girl was fine. In front of everyone there, I suggested to the group leader that he get some training.
4. I coached my wife through 37 hours of labor (I had the easy job), saw my daughter enter the world, then cut the cord. Greatest experience of my life. (Monica, our delivery nurse, rode a GSXR600.)
5. My Dad and I took a father/son vacation when he was 64 and I was 38. It was little more than relaxing in the Florida sunshine, but we learned things about each other we'd never have known without that time together. Gentlemen, go with your Dad (or your son) on such a vacation -- no spouses, no siblings, no buddies, just you two. My Dad died unexpectedly two years later...you never know. At his funeral I told the story of our father/son vacation and suggested that members of the congregation do the same while there was still time. One of my buddies (a motorcyclist) left the ceremony. Later he apologized for leaving but explained that he went to book reservations for a vacation with his father. They had a great time; his Dad died a few months later. Don't put it off...you never know.

Ok, I'm working my way through both my 5th decade and my 5th career. I've been a SCUBA sales manager/instructor, sold cars, been a carpenter, building contractor, software engineer, and now Regsitered Nurse. In the last two weeks I've had the "opportunity" to care for those who by lifestyle choice have had there time on this planet termiated due to catastrophic strokes in their mid-50s.
I've been riding off and on since I was 15, but, in reading many of the experiences here, I've missed out on many. However, my latest career shift has let me see a darker side.
While my riding experiences are secondary to those I've read, I sincerely hope I _never_ have anyone I know personally, or by reputation, in my ICU to care for. For both yourselves and your loved-ones, I hope you all are taking care for yourselves. Be safe.

I threw my leg over my ST and luckily was ahead of 99.7% but,,, as I got to the very first turn,,,
SHAZZAM!!!
The rain came,,, out of no where and rained like Noah's Ark was ready again... So,,,
# 14 ~~~ I rode "Down",,, Mt Evans in a hard rain and it rained till I stopped for the night at Winter Park... (((Not recommended trying this again)))
# 15 ~~~ Rode 9,300 miles in 20 days and 6 of those days was spent in Hill City South Dakota (((3))) Glacier Park (((2))) and Vancouver (((1))) So,,, about 9,000 miles traveled in 14 days all the while looking for Ice cream and Pie anywhere I went... :D

Went to a Notre Dame football game with my granfather when I was 13. He said we were going to met a friend of his at the game. His friend was Ara Parseghian and we were his guests and not only did we get to see the game from the sidelines, I met the whole team.
I was in the military and worked a partime job at the Tucson Convention Center. One night I was working backstage security and a big limo pulled up and someone told me to help the driver unload. I opened the door and a small delicate hand reached out for mine, it was attached to Heather Locklear!!! She was very nice and gave me a hug and a kiss. I had naughty dreams for months after that one.
I also got to meet Andre The Giant, when I shook his hand it was huge. He asked me if I wanted to wrestle, I promptly left.
Went to LA to do the tourist thing in 88 and stopped off at a convenience store for a a pop. When I came out James Earl Jones was talking with my wife. He was much biiger in real life and a very nice guy.
After I left the military I worked for a small charter airline. We had a contract to fly the San Antonio Spurs. My crew was out repairing an airplane when I noticed one of my guys was missing. I checked the hangar and hear some talking from a G4 airplane parked inside. I went into the jet and there was my mech talking with George Straight. An hour later we went back to work, he was a hell of a nice man and laughed when I turned down his autograph.
When I was in the USAF, I got 2 rides in F-4 Phantoms. Afterburner really kicks a$$!!
I almost forgot about the ride I got from a friend in 78, his cousin had a nice car and I needed a ride home. Right outside of town (Athens WI) a cop wanted to pull us over, when the lights went on Dennis floored it. My first and only high speed car chase, it lasted about 25 mins and ended with us crashing into a tree. Nobody was hurt thankfully, but the cops were not happy. It was fun in some respects and thankfully I survived. Telling my dad the story later that day was a whole other frightening experience.
Not much here.
I free climed a 60' rock face when I was 12. The lookout at Cook Forest, PA on the way to the fire tower.
I've been in Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and the Carribean Sea.
Been 3 feet away from a wild Black Bear. No fences, face to face.
I got to "visit" Houduras in 87. Compliments of Uncle Sam. One of the most beautiful places on earth. Ojo Deagua
Got to live fire 81mm mortars for 3 years. I love to blow stuff up.
I've been 186 Mph on a motorcycle.
I've hung out the door of a huey flying knap of the earth at West Point, (No I wasn't a student, just training.) Fort Brag, and Fort Drum, NY.
I got the opportunity to train a few times with Jeff Speakman and James Sang Lee. Both guys were great people.
I went to my 20 year class reunion this year. We were the only class not to have lost anyone since graduation.
My wife finaly realized that no amount of *****ing is going to keep me from buying/riding motorcycles.
I have friends of the highest calliber. Some that I haven't seen in 17 years, and would still put my life on the line for them. Not to mention that they would do the same for me. I am never more than a phone call away.
Been days from being homeless. Put myself through school. Busted my but to get where I am today.
One more thing that I try and keep as a daily part of my life. - Lead By Example

1) I’ve never had a real job**. :D :shrug2: I was self-employed right out of high school. I actually dropped out to “get at it”
At 19 yrs, with a partner we started & ran the Auto Trader, Truck Trader etc. in Edmonton & Calgary, Alberta, and Regina & Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Portland Or. 150 employees at peak. Did this for 12 years until we were bought out.
Next, I started and ran a technical training & consulting company - 4 offices/35 staff/7 years.
Now I’m deep into the real estate industry – investing/managing/buying/selling
**(I think this simply means I’m unemployable :D )
2) In my 40s I got my MBA. Turned out it was a piece o’ cake – I made more business mistakes than the case studies in those texts could ever hold.
3) My next-door neighbor at our summer home is Steve Yzerman. http://www.hockey-fans.com/players/yzerman.php . Steve, true to his reputation is a real gentleman & a great neighbor, except that his 3 cute little girls regularly kidnap Tucker, our cuddly Golden Retriever.:D
4) In the late 80s and early 90s I attended 8 consecutive Grey Cups – (the Cdn version of the Superbowl – except more entertaining).
5) My real claim to fame - 4 great kids aged 17 to 23 who are turning into wonderful people - and last but not least I’m still married to my 1st wife – although for some reason she doesn’t like being introduced that way. (Simply striving for accuracy y'know :) )
Enjoyed reading all the great posts.
Cheers,

Family stories, flying, racing, travel, war, music, and injury,(ouch), what a great read, don't know how I missed this thread before.
For me it is a little of each.
Best (short list)
1. Shaking the hand of the President of Honda canada, just after I had won the diagnostic tech of the year contest.
2. Watching my two daughters grow up in spite of my poor parenting, the young one just became a firefighter, cool.
3. Seeing the smile on my best friends face when I handed him the keys of the 1967 Jaguar E type FHC that I had just restored for him. Bead blasted every damm nut and bolt.
4. Seeing the smile on my other best friends face when he sets another Hillclimb record in the car that I prepare for him.( MGB GTV8)
5. Hiking with my Dad to the remote spot in the mountains that he always told me about when I was a kid.
Worst
1. Hiking back to that same spot the next year, but carrying Dads Ashes.
2. Missing the Honda comp. the next year, The formula 1 race in Montreal on Honda's tab. Damm:mad:
3. Leaving Honda to go to Chysler--- What was I thinking:eek:
4. Crashing the MGB in a parking lot Slalom. When the slicks let go they let go.
5. Blulged a disc in lower back, then tried to go skiing, What was I thinking again:eek: Six months of rehab, then two and a half years of therapy, but no surgery, can you say Ibuprofen. Hey, but there are new skis in the closest.:biker:
To come ( haven't happened yet)
1. Washing the new used 05 ST (red of course)that I just bought to replace my aging 95 ST which has seen several hundred thousand Kilos.( this will be years from now)
2. Spoiling the heck out of my several grand kids( come on girls, meet that perfect guy)
3. Restoring a 1968 Triumph TR250 that is my own!!!!
4. Going Heli Skiing just once
5. Riding 12 months of the year once, so I can ride in each of the Canadian Provinces, and all of the 49 States that year, maybe drop into Mexico as well.
Forgot, the one famous person I almost met was Paul Newman. After looking at his cars( Nissans) in the Trans Am Pits in Portland many years ago, I commented to my wife Kathy, that it was a shame that we didn't see Paul there. She says " What, You standing right beside him" Guess I was looking at the cars, go figure:rolleyes:
Thanks for listening

It is a loooong story! And we made it as far as actually seeing the gold (fantastic), getting the plane, paying off the police in Belize City, and arranging for a bank in the Caymans to handle the transaction.
It was a close thing - and I almost wound up in a Mexican jail! It's a tale as long as six beers!

1. To celebrate my 50th year: I through-hiked the John Muir Trail in 16 days in august of 2000. For those unacquainted with the JMT it coincides for 221 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail in the Sierra Nevada Mtns. The first 100 miles the average elevation is above 10,000 feet, and you get to hike over 6 of the highest passes in the continental U.S. (the passes range from 12,000 - 14,000 feet).
2. Hiked to the summit of Mt. Whitney in 2000.
3. In 2003 stopped work and went back to school fulltime for 2 years to start my 5th career... Graduation 12/3/05!
4. Earned the rank of Eagle Scout before obtaining my drivers license.
5. Been inside the turbine races for the Glenn Canyon Dam generators prior to the generators being installed.

This is an amazing group. As for me...
I've got three really great kids -- the oldest completing her PhD at USC in International Relations and getting ready to move to New Zealand. The middle working with a partner to start a ChemDry business in San Diego. The youngest, temporarily home before returning to Urumqi, China, this time to study Chinese full time and teach English part time instead of teach English full time and study Chinese part time.
Lived in Mexico City with a Mexican family when I was a kid and speak Spanish fluently now.
Lived in Germany with a German family when I was a little older kid and struggle to speak a little gramatically poor German now.
Broke my leg on the Great Wall in China.
Earned my way through college (partially) by teaching SCUBA diving classes.
Am a first generation American, my father having been born in Germany and my mother in China. (Does that count? Isn't really anything I did or had control over!)
Rode for 27 years with no collisions (fell, but never collided with anything/anybody) in spite of commuting daily that entire time in Southern Calif. traffic... then totalled 2 ST's in 6 months colliding with a Chevy Suburban (his fault of course) and then a Ford F150 (her fault, of course.)
Don't feel I hold much of a candle to so many others on this board. Sure makes this a great group, though.

Wow, I'm humbled by the company I'm keeping... You guys have LIVED..! :bow1:
Here's my hack at it...
1) Helped build, commission, and served on one of the most capable fighting ships ever, an Aegis guided-missile vertical launch cruiser (USS Antietam CG-54 -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Antietam_%28CG-54%29). We fired 5 Tomahawks and 40 surface-to-air missiles during tests, which at that time was more than any warship since Vietnam. Of course, nowadays ships are throwing Tomahawks at Iraq like they're going out of style... We sank a target ship (intentionally), and knocked a bunch of incoming missiles out of the air. Good times... Good times.
2) Dove in cenote “La Angelita” Yucatan Peninsula -- http://www.cenoteangelita.com/photos.htm (http://www.cenoteangelita.com/photos.htm) , this is an incredible dive into a cave that has a mix of fresh and salt waters, and trees and leaves that have fallen into the cave. AT about 100' deep where the two types of water meet and where the leaves are decomposing, there is a "cloud" of sulphur and other foul-tasting chemicals, but it is stunningly beautiful in its natural simplicity. The water above it is perfectly clear, and it appears you're landing on a small, foggy island with dead trees, etc. It really looked like something out of Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas", and I expected horrible-looking puppets to start popping up out of the fog!
3) Dove a WWII P-38 that crashed off the coast of San Diego back in "the big one" in 130’ of water... Incredible wreck in pretty good condition, with wolf eels living in the wings!
4) Met Reggie "Mr. October" Jackson on a traffic stop... Minor equipment violation and I didn't ask for his autograph (but should have...).
5) Helped a big group of people prepare a former CDN warship (HMCS Yukon) for sinking as an artificial reef, and was one of the safety divers once she was down.
6) Finally, I was a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize...
Yes, there is a story attached... I was serving aboard the Antietam, and during the '88 Olympics in Seoul, Korea, we were assigned to maintain air security as part of the UN Peacekeeping Forces. During that year, the UN Peacekeepers had done some other (far more important) things that actually warranted the Prize. However, the Nobel Committee awarded the prize to the entire UN Peacekeeping Force, and as a result we were lumped together with them. Of course, we DEMANDED part of th prize money, but since there were over 200,000 members of the Peacekeeping Force at that time, we'd have only gotten about $.50 each. Naturally, as sailors, that argument didn't dissuade us... We wanted our cash!:D

2. Repelled an armed robbery attempt while working armored car. (no shots fired, i beat him on the draw)
3. Applied the vinyl graphics to the pace car at the kansas speedway DURING the race.
4. Drove a 2 wheel drive truck 200 miles through a foot of ice and snow while pulling a 10 foot box trailer averaging 60 MPH. ( younger, dumber, and driving like heel to get home to my new bride.)
5. Made the face, and it stuck.

1. Been close enough to a space shuttle I could kiss it.
2. Met then VP George Bush at the cristening of the USS San Jacinto
3. Loaded C-5, C-130, C-141, C-17. Rigged a 141 and 130 for air drops
4. Rolled a Bombardier Traxter ATV down a 60 foot incline (while trying to go up) with said ATV rolling on top of me at least twice that I remember. Once I got it off of me I was so pissed off that I hit the hill again correctly, but too fast and caught a little air at the top and damn near wrecked it again.
5. Visited 13 states and 49 cities in 6 months as a government contractor flying back to San Antonio after nearly every city. That sucked.
6. Have actually been to Levelland, TX. Not many can say that.
7. Did all of Comdex Las Vegas in 1 day so I could gamble the rest of the week on company time.
8. Helped my father renovate the house in the middle of nowhere on the river that he always wanted.
9. Did a Chinese firedrill at 85mph in an Olds Omega with no muffler outside of Jersey Village, TX.
10. Did zero G dives and missed being squashed by an airliner in a Beechcraft Bonanza all in the same flight.

<<2) Saw the last game that Nolan Ryan pitched in.>>
Hey, I did too! I remember getting tickets with my dad a few days before the game. Was on the 300 level down the right field line. I remember the Kingdome being only about 2/3's full during the first inning and Nolan Ryan being removed after giving up the grand slam, then thinking to myself about all the people who came to the game to see Nolan Ryan's last appearance at the dome, arrived late, and missed it.
1. I am only 1 of about 8 people in the United States to possess an airline dispatchers license issued by the Japanese Civil Aeronautics board.
2. Rode first class on a United Airlines flight from JFK to Hong Kong over the north pole, at the time, the longest nonstop flight in the world.
3. While in high school in 1979, rode my 1978 GS400, along with my dad on his GS550 and brothers XS400 along the Trans Alaskan highway, while the Canadian portion was still all dirt.
4. Made an appearance at the ATC Eurocontrol symposium in Brussels Belgium in 1999, and thinking to myself, "this is the greatest bureaucratic xxxxups in aviation history"
5. While living in Yakatat Alaska in the late '60's, while fishing at the Situk River, snagged the back of my head with a treble hook and, while thinking it was hooked in the bushes behind me, jerked my fishing rod forward trying to pull it loose, thus burying the barb points further into my scalp.

Most of mine are related to my career in the USAF...
1) Flown faster than the speed of sound (numerous occassions, but not for long. The F-4 really sucks the gas at those speeds)
2) Flown down Loch Ness at 200' and 420 kts - didn't see Nessie
3) Seen Jefferson Davis' autograph inside the desk he used when he was a US Senator (I was a Congressional Fellow for a year)
4) Been in the West Wing of the White House
5) Worked in the Pentagon for too many years
6) Toured Pompeii - that was way cool

Landed a plane on water, grass, dirt, ice, snow, asphalt and concrete, just never on a boat.
Met more celebrities than I can count, though the're just people, some good some not so good and most not as lucky as us, they don't ride (except Jay) part of the fun part of flying private jets!
Been a pilot, lineman, cop and mechanic.

Georgeorge, I thought I was reading my own post. Then I remembered... I haven't posted to this thread yet!! Check this out...
1) Back when I was a kid I rode my unicycle everywhere I went. I could juggle and ride the unicycle at the same time. with a little practice I might still could do it..
I also had a unicycle and rode it everywhere. I just can't do the juggling bit. Now I find two wheels much more fun!
3) Rubiks Cube.....I love to do the Rubik's Cube as a kid. I solved it in 1 minute 17 seconds once. I can still do it, but not as fast.
I also do the Rubik's cube. When I was a kid, I routinely solved it in under 30 seconds with my fastest being 14 seconds... in front of a witness! Today I still can in under a minute. Just don't practice as much anymore.
Now for my own...
3) I have never been in the Navy (or any military branch) but have driven a ballistic missile submarine (surfaced and submerged), fired a torpedo, and stood watch on the conning tower where I spotted a life vest (no one in it) and called for a man over board drill. I also drove a guided-missile cruiser and was a spectator on a radar tracking ship where I watched the launch of a ballistic missile from a sub.
4) As for famous people, I have met Tom Landry (Dallas Cowboys 1st and greatest coach- no offense, Big Tuna) and George Foreman (the nicest and most gracious person I have EVER met).

I cheated a little...
My DAD was in the Navy (CWO4, nuke engineer, answered only to the captain). The Sub captain's son was a good friend of mine. He and I got to do lots of things aboard the ships and boats that my dad was on. I'm not talking about the several hours, cruise off the coast Dependant's Cruise. We would fly in a C-130/141 cargo planes to Fort Lauderdale then ride on the ship/boat back to Norfolk or Charleston.
Strings are a wonderful thing when you can pull them!;)

Well, I lived in Germany from 87 to 91 and in 89 I ran the Berlin Marathon. Went to East Berlin the next day and the day I was driving through East to get to the West...... the wall started coming down.

2) I have jumped off a cliff at over 12000 ft. in Taos, NM on a set of skis and lived to tell about it.
3) I raced Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes for over 10 years and won a State Championship in 1997.
4) I have met Lance Armstrong, Miquel Indurain, Eddie Mercks, and George Hincapie. (all professional cyclists)
5) I marched in the 1980 Inaugaral Parade and met President Ronald Reagan.
6) I have seen the remains of King Tut in Washington, DC back in the 80's.
7) I have had the opportunity to own 8 motorcycles over the years and everyone was an awesome experience in itself.
8) A good friend of mine was dating one of the Snap-On tool girls when I was in my mid 20's. She had a sister who was also a Snap-On Tool girl and I ended up dating her for a while. Man, she was hot... ;)
Some really great times... I am glad to share them with all of you.

I just remembered something, so I guess It can't be too memorable.
But, it sure was way cool to watch the U-2 taking off from the airstrip at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, while I was stationed there.
I don't remember if it was '61, or '62 but it was one of the most amazing sights I've ever seen.
Been to Hawaii.
Been to Ireland.
Chased hurricane Francis.
Chased hurricane Katrina.
Got a wife that's put up with me for 28+ years.

From 1982-1988 I did not own a car...only motorcycles! Rode EVERYWHERE, bought all my groceries, moved to different cities, carried around a pet raccoon....all on 2 wheels: rain, cold, twice in the snow, blind drunk, stoned. 2 wrecks, one of which was a drunk one.
Was on a BART bus into the city with Carlos Santana after the big earthquake in San Francisco ('89?) and got high with him and his sister-in-law and they played the guitar and bongos on the bus while everyone who spoke spanish sang along.
Wrote a song with Steve Earle and Townes Van Zant in Austin Tx and held a mike cord around Townes' arm while he shot up (I was too scared to say no).
Got shot and got on my bike and rode 30 miles to the hospital with a virtually useless left leg.

It's all coming back to me now. Unfortunately. The first bike that I paid money for was an old, beat-up, multi-colored metal-flake painted Ducatti 250 with baby ape-hangers. At 17 a friend and I went haffies on the thing. I don't remember riding it very much. Mostly it was broken down. If only I'd kept a picture of that piece of crud!

5: Shelled

7:poisend
8: OOPs I forgot I'm a professional now
all before I was 25 - Small wonder no one thought I would live this long.

Reading this thread has been amazing. You do meet the most interesting people on a Honda.
Uncommon things I've done:
1) Rode bulls and bareback in professional rodeo for 12 years.
2) Spent a week in the Australian outback with an Aboriginal family. That was easily the hottest week I've EVER experienced. 44 - 51 degrees C.
3) Had tea with Helen Clark, the Prime Minister of New Zealand.
4) As a freshman in college I played video games with John Elway. He seemed like a good guy.
5) Been on 5 of the 7 continents. (only Africa and Antarctica to go)

Wow, I'm not going to even come close to most of these, but in chrono order......
Batted 721 with an OBA of 800+ (only struck out once) my senior year in highschool. I got burned out on baseball and turned down college sports, still kick myself over that major stupidity.
My first solo flight in a Cessna 152, the wind was gusting 30 knots! For those that don't know, most experienced pilots won't even do this.
Wrecked a Toyota MR-2 going 145+ and walked away.
Met a married the most beautiful and special lady a man could ever hope for, my wife Cindy. We have three beautiful daughters.
Hooked and caught a 23 1/4" Largemouth in Deep River, while wade fishing with my dad a couple of years back, good times!!!
Only semi-famous people I know are relatives. One is/was an astronaut, the other flew T-38's in the Thunderbirds and bogies in Red Flag.

Walked the through downtown Anchorage before (1963) and after (1993) the earthquake.
Flew to Alaska in a Piper Comanche (followed the AlCan.)
Kayaked a week in Glacier Bay (doesn't top Sokay)
Soloed from west Florida to Gose Bay, Labrador and back in two weeks on my ST.
Not only would I recognize 6-time Pro-Bowl center for the Redskins, Len Hauss if he walked into a room, he will recognize me if I walk into a room. BTW, Len never missed a game in his 14 year career, which began in 1964, and started a team record 203 straight games.

Here goes in no particular order:
-Spent 6 months in Alice Springs, N.T., Australia for work (great beer , by the way)
-When first purchased a new 1973 850 Norton, didn't have a four wheel vehicle for the next two years
-In high school saw the Doors, B.B. King was the warm up
-Saw the last game that Nolan Ryan pitched
-Was in a wheel chair after knee surgery picking up someone at the airport, Gary Busey stopped to talk to me
-*I have had the greatest wife for the past 23 years (how does she but up with my BS), 2 great kids, wonderful in-laws, a cool job, wow, not too bad!

I soloed after 9 hours of dual.
Later, after engine failure, I dead-sticked that Cessna 150 into a heavily wooded area and walked away. I know what a beer can factory sounds like with lots of aluminum being bent into (or out of) shape.

1. Trailed a Russian Kiev class aircraft carrier in a fast attack submarine.. We were so close to them that through the periscope on high power you could practically tell the brand of cigarette that the sailors were smoking on the fantail
2. I have been in excess of 1200 feet under the ocean
3. I have been on top of the ocean off the coast of Iceland in 50+ foot SWELLS !!
4. Remember when two Libyan fighters were splashed by F-16's from an American carrier during the cold war when Libya starting messing with us.. I was on board a Fleet Ballistic Missile submarine (boomer) when that happened.. Missiles spun up, hatches open and finger on the trigger (not my finger).. Closest I ever came to a pre-emptive strike
5. Climbed the Stairway to Heaven on the island of Oahu It is a locally famous 3,922-step stairway ascending the summit of the Ko`olau mountain range on the island of Oahu. Took over 3 hours to get to the top
6. Survived Stage 3A Hodgkin’s Disease
7. Survived 2 heart attacks

Wow, a lot of interesting folks out here.
I stood next to a power pole just as it was struck by lightening. Knocked me on my butt and just about every light bulb in my house shattered. I still don't understand exactly how lightening caused them to shatter, but they did.
I worked with an engineering team under Joel Birnbaum for HP labs back in the mid 80's to develop HP's first RISC based computer systems. I spent 5 years working with HP labs on some pretty cool projects with some amazingly talented people that I will never forget.
I closed a bar once with Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard.
Did some hang gliding all around California back when I was in better shape.
Had a stroke and was told I would probably never drive again. I am unable to work but a hard fought battle and the grace of God has allowed me to not only drive again, but ride again.

Cool to hear Scarman!!! Thanks for the stories!!! And,,, glad you are doing better than "The Doctor" expected...
I have an update on my Top 10 list...
# 8 ~~~ I have rode over 1,000 miles on a Motorcycle,,, in 24 hours or less 4 times... AND,,, all 4 times I had no idea/thought/reason/need/clue I was going that far,,, in that amount of time when I left...
That should read 8 times now over 1,000 miles in 24 hours... Really,,, the most in 24 was 1,380,,, and did 1,130 is 16 hours but still,,, never certified yet... I dislike organized cheers,,, being told to ride from point A,,, to point B,,, and riding on Interstates as they bore me to tears knowing a curvy 2 lane is within miles of where I am zooming along...
Tim Yow says he will get that taken care of this summer as I will be riding along on one of his almost legendary rides...

I spent a late evening smoking dope and drinking wine with Marlon Brando in 1972 on the tropical island of Moorea in French Polynesia. We talked about everything except movies. He had just finished 'The Godfather' and was leaving soon to make 'Last Tango in Paris'. His main concern was generating power on his island of Tetearoa using brine pools developed by the Israelis. Quite an evening.
1. After a 25 year gap decided to take up riding again and bought an ST. Flew from Toronto to Orlando to take an MSF course to confirm my decision.
2. Had a hole in one playing solo golf, yep no witness
3. Took a year off work to train for the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon
4. Train for endurance kayak racing. Decided to do a 480 miles kayak race before I even owned a kayak. Bought one and trained for it.
5. Studied long and hard to become an actuary and eventually started my own company

I'll start where Chuck left off.
1.) Toured Europe with several college music groups in 2000 (been to the castle at Salzburg) and sang in places like Notre Dame, the Abbey at Melk, and many other smaller churches.
2.) Rode naked around the town of Bellingham, WA with BGOD (Bicycle Gang of Doom). The ride culminated with every member (about 20) launching off a ramp through a flaming hoop of fire made of conduit and kerosene soaked rags in our back yard. It's on video somewhere, so I can never run for office.
3.) Spent 3 months in New Zealand with a college buddy. Hitch-hiked around the north island and bought a $400 car on the south island. Did lots of hiking. Hiked around Stewart Island for 7 days.
4.) Marched in the 1995 St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin, Ireland with my school marching band (Shorecrest Scots). We took 2nd place. A school from Texas took first.:(
5.) Performed Dichterliebe by Schumann for my Senior Recital.
6.) I've met lots of bands but wouldn't expect any of them to remember me.
