View Full Version : My hands are killing me ... UPDATE

OK. I have changed a few things and now everything is good again with my hands.

Here is what I changed:

Replaced the Joe Rockets with Shift gloves without any gel type pockets. These are much much better. I also have a pair of goat ropers so I can change gloves if riding for long periods of time.

Replaced the stock seat: I put on a Corbin Dual Canyon seat and this promotes a completely different riding position. I sit at the back of the seat which tilts me a little farther forward. This has help considerably and has put my hands in the proper angle for the grips.

What I think I was doing wrong:

The stock seat kept me close to the gas tank. This in turn put me nearer an upright position which is incorrect for the grip angles. This put tension on my wrists.

The Joe Rocket gloves are NOT for me. Nothing against Joe.

Gripping too tightly: I have been riding sloppy HDs for a while that run like tractors. The ST makes you aware that it wants to get up and go. I couldn't hit 90 in fourth gear let alone first on the old HDs.

Thank you all for your help and I appreciate your advice and ideas.

Cool beans! Good to hear you found a combination that works for you. Gripping too tightly causes all sorts of problems. Glad your aware of your riding tendencies. Now all you need to do is correct them!

Too big a change going from a HD to a ST!

You need to do what I did, go from the HD to a GL1800 (unlike me you might become a moderator here at that point) then after a proper number of years, go to a ST13 only after you've fully readjusted to a bike that handles, does't break down and doesn't demand lots of money in chrome and/or lighting enhancements and are now truly ready to return to the world of motorcycling.

Option two: Get the ST13 before the GL1800, then get an GL1800, then get another ST1300.

NOT to mention any names or anything.
