SEASTOC II is around the corner...
I'll be calling the park's rangers this weekend to confirm our campground and dates reservations.
At the last SeaSTOC the rangers were very friendly and helpful. They sold us wood and delivered it to the campsites. He even hung around chatting with the guys (and gals) about the bikes. So I expect more of the same this year.
I have faith that we will be getting the same spots we did last year in nice, roomy, cozy and shaded sites.
I'll be arriving on Friday late morning and start setting up signs, and assuring our spots. ST_Alicia and I will be there to greet the newly arrivees.
Sat., after breakfast (you're on you own on that one. There is a very nice Taco Shop down the road that makes breakfast burritos. I'll be first in line!) you can head out for local rides which I will point out in forth-coming posts. Be sure to be back in time for the FREE DINNER starting around 6pm or so.
I am looking very forward to hangin' with you guys (and gals) this year. I'll be doing my usual thing of just hangin' out and doing some photo shoots here and there.
Oh yeah, no alcohol will be offered. So you'll need to bring your own if you want and follow campground and park rules.
:hotpepper WOO HOO!!! :hotpepper

Now! For Places to See and Things to Do!
Please refer to the previous year's post with the same name. Lots to do around the Salton Sea. Riding, hiking, sight-seeing, photography, hanging out in camp.
Ride up the Box Canyon and on to Joshua Tree for the day. Or bring your Adventure Bike and try the rugged trails in the area; such as in Borrego State Park, or in the hills behind the campsites.
Any suggestions for the other folks who have never been in this area before are most welcomed! :hotpepper

Gotta get one of Kreis' single wheel trailers. Bet it could be done. I've seen a GL-1800 towing a GL 1200 "light show" bike. :D

OK, just got back from the stores with 15 lbs. of meat! Beef and chicken carne asada! WOO HOO! :hotpepper
Also bought two BBQ's. I will need help from one of ya to put them together at the campsites. I also will need to take over one of the campsite tables to cook all this stuff. Just a fair warning...
We will be having carne asada, grilled green onions, guacamole, salsa, corn tortillas, and watermelon. I will also be bringing some cheap soda pops chilled in a ice chest with ICE!
ATTENTION!!!
The Free Sat. Night Dinner is for overnighter campers only!!!
Don't just think you can ride on in for the day and get a free munch and blow out! Another fair warning!
(But chances are you'll get some too.)

Just got off the phone with Ranger Pat at the Salton Sea Recreational Park. I told them that we will be coming. I told them that it will be a group of about 20-30 folks. I told them that we are friendly family oriented group and not a big rowdy biker gang (so I lied, sue me). I asked that firewood be made available for sale. I told them that we had already paid for and reserved three campsites.
Now the person I spoke to (Ranger Pat) told me that the ranger we dealt with last year is no longer there, so this will be a whole new group of ranger personnel I have to charm again. I will be faxing them tomorrow complete confirmation and campsite location requests. As you may be aware this park's campsites are first come, first serve and they do not reserve specific campsites. I want to get campsites NC-46,47, 49 to keep us together and in the nicer shaded campsites. I hope they can accommodate that for us. We'll see. If I, or some of you can get there real early and grab them that would be great!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got a fax today from the head ranger at the Salton Sea Rec. Area Park. You see it is a new head ranger there, not the last guy we dealt with last year, and he is being a stickler for the rules. He said in his fax that we only have three reservations for those dates and that the park only allows 4 motorcycles and 8 people per site. Last year the head ranger waived those rules for us and it was no problem. I have been trying to call the head ranger Rick Bier to talk to him as he requested that I do so they can accommodate us somehow. I talked to Pat and she said he'll be in tomorrow at 10am, so I'll call him then.
Now if these ranger guys want to play by the rules then we may, or may not have a problem. So far from the forum's calendar RSVP I count up to around 30 people showing up, maybe more, maybe less. ST_Alicia and I have reserved three campsites so that is, let me do my math, carry the two, subtract... oh heck... erase erase... ok... that is 12 bikes can park in the campsite's parking spots and... let's see... that is 24 people sleeping in the sites themselves.
OK, now I will talk to the ranger tomorrow and see what we can work out for overflow. Last year the nicer ranger said we could park overflow bikes in the day parking lot after the park closes for day users, so I am hoping the new head ranger will agree to that. If not then there is other campsites at the Salton Sea. A very large and nice one down the road from ours called Mecca Beach. It has all the stuff ours does like tables, bathrooms, etc. So if have to send some of you guys down there for the night I don't see a problem. Just dump your stuff there and come on back and hang out with us at New Camp and the Sat. Night Free Dinner.
I will keep you posted. Continue to monitor this thread for further information.

ATTENTION!
It seems that the park rules for each tent campsite in New Camp is 2 cars, or 4 bikes per campsite's parking space. Also only 8 people per campsite. I will be bringing two cars (my Rodeo arriving Friday, and my wife's car arriving Sat.) for the Free Sat. Night Dinner.
So when that limit is reached any overflow may have to camp in the other Salton Sea campgrounds, such as MECCA BEACH CAMPGROUND.

:clap2: GOOD NEWS! :clap2:
OK, I just got off the phone with the ranger. He was real nice and is going to specially setup and cordon off the campsites we wanted; sites 41-49, marking them reserved! WOO HOO! So we now have room for at least 30 people and enough parking for the bikes. If overflow parking occurs we may be able to park some of you guys in the Day Use Parking lot.
I made two more reservations under my wife's name as only two site reservations per name can be done online. One starting Thursday night, and the other starting Friday. If you could help out with the cost on one of them that would be great! I paid $100 for both reservations. So that is now a total of 4 campsites reserved! Each campsite is allowed 8 people, and 2 cars, or 4 bikes. The ranger said if we can comfortably fit more bikes into a campsite's parking space without going outside the white line that's OK with him. I do not believe this new head ranger is going to allow bike parking in the campsite itself, only in the site's parking area, so be warned.
Whew! That's a load off! Any more people showing up will have to go down to Mecca Beach campground.
See ya there Thursday! I'm coming in on Thursday night!

CAMP PARKING INSTRUCTIONS!
According to the park ranger's instructions and rules motorcycle camping parking has to be within the campsite's parking spaces and within each space's white line. The roads around the campsites need to free for ranger patrol and fire equipement.
Overflow parking may be provided. Please check with the event's hosts in this regard and you will be directed to overflow parking if needed.
That is all...
