Rode today, very warm, had 90 degrees on the thermo coming into town this afternoon. to hot for me. Went to the shores of the big lake, nice 63 degrees and a slight breeze. Took a couple of pictures to share with the group. 700 foot lake carrier getting loaded with iron ore from the local iron mines where I retired from. Danny :biker:

Great Pics of the "Big Lake". Time for a weekend ride along the North Shore, been way too long since I've been up there.

We are going to be riding up that way (the UP of Michigan) the first week of July. We have been as far as Munising, but missed the penninsula that has Copper Harbor on it. Anything up there I shouldn't miss? We are planning on going to the Shipwreak museum at Whitefish Point, but nothing in particular planeed at this time. Still trying to figure out route and where to stay, etc.

yes ride the west side of the copper country, Eagle river to copper harbor, nice bike road and nice scenery. Brockway mountain also up towards the top of the peninsula. If your coming from the east going west to the copper country, from Autrain just west of Munising county road H 03 to M 94, west on 94 thru the old air force base to M 553, turn left and go down to M 35 turn right on that one and take it thru Palmer, nice bike roads, watch out for deer, bear, moose, and wolves. Don't know how much time you have ,but the UP is over 300 miles wide, lodging in Munising, Marquette Ishpeming, Houghton a small motel in Gwinn, Lodging in Calumet, Baraga, but don't know about vacancies on that weekend. If camping lots of campgrounds but it will probably be the same thing for the 4th. Class reunions going on also on that weekend.

Thanks, I'll look into those roads. We are coming up through Wisconsin as we live in Iowa. Planning on going down through Michigan and going to Wing Ding for a day. We'll see, haven't decided yet. We will be motelling it. Year before last we were up in Munising and took the pictured rocks tour and ate at the DogPatch. Nice area, so we are going back for more.

Thanks again for the info.

Gotta love Gitche Gumee! Ten years ago I was camping with my cousin in Ontario and as we were driving (in a van...sigh) we came upon a stranded mountain biker. We gave him a lift to the next town and he was so pleased he invited us to spend the night. His place was a log cabin with Superior as the front yard. Incredible. He stoked the fire and we switched between 150 degrees sauna and the 50 degree lake, then we drank all our beer and most of his. In the morning his wife made us breakfast, packed us lunch, and sent us on our way. All for a little road-side rescue. Thanks for bringing that great memory back to the surface.

Danny,

When I was a kid the family used to go fishing up N.W. of Thunder Bay (Fort Francis/Port Arthur) Used to go thru Superior Wi. Quite often the Edmund
Fitzgerald would be loading ore at Superior when we went thru..

I'm in Mason City, right between Minneapolis and Des Moines. In the flatlands. Like I saw on a fellows shirt from Florida... 11 curves in 318 miles.
