Update: NorthTX TechSTOC
Where: My house
When: August 2, 2008
Time: 9:30am till we're done!

I'll be doing valves. HotCams Shim Kit is in my hands.

I'll have the Carbtune for anyone that wants to sync their t-bodies (make sure you arrive with only one bar on your gas gauge).

I'll have enough tools to work on maybe two bikes at once so you might want to bring your own tools.

I have a cordless drill, step bit, and standard bits.

I have moly paste, axle grease, silicone grease, silicone spray, anti-seize, dielectric grease, white grease in spray can if needed.

I have a couple of torque wrenches (3/8" and 1/2")

I have a vaccum bleeder tool for brakes

I have various wire crimpers and pliers if anyone is doing electrical work

There is a Wal-Mart, various auto parts stores, hardware stores (Ace, Home Depot), Radio Shack, and a couple of m/c shops within 10 minutes of our house if needed

Mellow will have available tire changing tools but only if he is notified in advance if they are needed. No point in bringing them over if no one wants to do tires.

I think Mellow has a lift we can borrow but otherwise the bikes will be sitting on the ground. If you need me too, I can either pick it up the week before or I can meet you somewhere.

If there is anything else that we need, please PM me and let me know. If people are wanting to do brakes, it's usually preferable to pick up the brake fluid 24 hours in advance so that the fluid has settled before use. If anyone wants, I can pick up the brake fluid if I know how many need it and you can reimburse me on Saturday. DFW Honda is about 30 minutes out if necessary so any parts you might need from the dealership, you might want to have on hand.

If a bike gets torn down and isn't able to run by the end of the day, we can house over night but would like to avoid that if possible.

I'm thinking Costco's pizza for lunch? I can get various soda for lunch, we'll have ice tea (both sweet and unsweet), and water. No adult beverages for good reason.

I would suggest if you're planning on attending and working on your bike to bring your own nitrile gloves and/or work gloves. I have Fast Orange hand cleaner available as well.

PM me for address/directions/map if you need it.

I may get a portable no mar tire changer by then so, the timing is looking good so tires could be another possibility.

A/c in a garage? Do you think I'm rich? :p:

I have Texas garage a/c...a garden hose and a ocillating fan. Once I get a feel for how many want to come and what all everyone wants to do, I'll get details ironed out.

If we need a larger space, I'll make some calls.

I'm thinking I'll pick up some Costco pizza but that could change. :) Any other idea's are welcome...I thought about having it catered but that would be beyond our budget depending on how many show up.

I had a freaky brain storm and thought, what if we got one or two or three video camera's going along with some still shots. Video tech instead of just a pdf file? Dumb idea?

Depending on numbers, any lifts and tools people are willing to bring over would be helpful. I do not have a lift and only have enough tools to work on one bike at a time..well, possibly two if you include the on board tool kit (built around the list floating around the forums).

I do have a CarbTune II Pro and a MityVac for use. If there is anyone wanting to do brakes/clutch I can pick up the brake fluid (or you can drop it off) in advance so that it will have had 24 hours to settle prior to use.

I thought about renting a swamp cooler for the day as well. I've not hosted one of these tech days so any ideas or help is appreciated.

What all services is everyone interested in? I'd like to have as much prepared in advance as possible and need to have a way to take used fluids to the recycle center.

I'm working on trying to precure a larger garage to work in and will post up when I've got more details. Also, anyone that has a bike lift we could probably use it for the day, if you don't mind. It won't be the end of the world, w/o it, though.

Okay, should have the No-Mar tire changer next week.

Here are some things I can contribute to the event:
- Tire Changes
- 3 work stools on rollers w/tool tray underneath
- 1 bike lift - used for the wing but should be usable for the ST

If you are getting tires done at the event, this would be a good time to get some 90 degree aluminum valve stems as well.

I'll be a newbie at this so not sure how many tires I'll be able to change so some advanced notice would be nice.

Either way, if you live near me in carrollton - marsh ln/keller springs area - you can always stop by and we'll get your tires changed.

I've always had the place that does my tires keep the old ones and they charge me a disposal fee. I'll need to find out what I can do with old tires and if there some cost associated with that.

Fort Worth will take tires at their drop off sites if you live in Fort Worth, for free (well, we pay for it out of our taxes). Might want to take a look at your cities website and see what all they offer.

If anyone else has bike lifts they can loan, it would come in handy.

I'll check, then I can just take the used tires.

What are the lifts needed for? I typically put some weights in a box on the back seat and that works to get the front off the ground for tire removal.

Are you looking just to lift the bike so it's easier to get to stuff?

Update:

As of right now, this will be held in my garage. The spot I was trying to precure for the tech day just isn't going to work out. If I can locate a larger space, I'll post up the new location.

If someone has a ez-up we could probably use it if they don't mind loaning it to us for that Saturday.

I just ordered the Hot Cams shim kit so that will be taken care of.

Anyone wanting to participate that needs directions can either PM me or show up to the Blue Hangar breakfast meet. We will head this direction after breakfast.

I will be in a cage that morning as I will break down the ST on Friday in prep for the valve check/adjustment.

Joe, not sure if I should start another thread in the Tech events section or if this should be moved there? What do you think?

I will have the bike partially torn down so that it won't take so long to get to the meat and bones of the matter. There are a couple of things I want to look at anyway prior to the tech day.

I can either pick up some pizza's from Costco, leave you all working on my bike while I go prep them for you animals.

or

We can head up to Shady Oak BBQ and have lunch (pay your own). If we do this, I'll pick up some pie's and ice cream (not my own homemade...sorry) and we can have a pie run in the garage.

I will have some sweet tea, some regular tea, water, and a variety of soft drinks available. It will be hot, the weather guesser is putting us at 101°F for Saturday.

I have a SM, a 1/2" and 3/8" bar type torque wrenches along with the various other tools. SAE feeler guages in the range needed. I'll pick up a micrometer tomorrow and I'm going to try to make the stopper tool but we may just end up using a small screwdriver.

If you want to bring a few tools as another set just in case, that would be fine since extra's never hurt. I have a small 8 gal compressor as well.

If anyone needs to do oil changes, brake/clutch fluid, whatever, we should be good to go. I'll have all the tools laid out on a table ready to go.

What we just need is to get lots of photographs and notes taken down (I'm bad w/notes) so Dee and I can do a how-to write up afterwards.

I am major bummed about having to miss out on this. I spend most of Friday evening and all day Saturday sitting in a cubicle and monitoring disaster recovery efforts on a clustered server in Germany. Not even half as exciting as it sounds. (And my "vacation" was supposed to have started Friday.)

Sounds like a great time - educational and entertaining. I'll be looking forward to seeing pics/vids from the event. I have GOT to get comfortable with exploring beyond the plastic of my ST.

You guys were welcome to crash at the pad until morning if you wanted to avoid the heat. Chuck did and took off early in the morning.

In this heat, invest in Miracool vests. You can get them for about $35/after shipping at Tuff Rhino (http://www.tuffrhino.com/Cooling_Vests_s/47.htm).

I want to thank everyone that came for showing up. Thanks to Joe for taking photo's and to Chuck for overseeing the procedure. It was hot but still went pretty good.

I'm going to try to get together a Fall and Spring tech event so everyone that wants to be involved can be. It will also give us a chance to start putting together some serious tech doc's for the site.

I Want to say that is was great see every one again at the Blue Hanger and thanks to Matt for allowing me to get a refresher course on how to change shims. It had been a while since I did that on my bike. Thanks to Matt for giving me a place to stay over as I would not have enjoyed the ride back in 107 degree heat. You OKie guys are either crazy or insane to ride 150 miles in that kind of heat:D. Hope everybody learned something. By the way Matt had to change out two shims and making the conversion from inches to metric was a bit confusing. I really think it was just the heat not allowing us to think quickly. Luckily the shims were from the same cylinder and both exhaust valves on the left side. We only had to remove one cam.:bow1:
One of the items to do during Boring STOC will be to use my bike, on the lift, to teach anybody how to perform a maint function. My bike will need most everything done to it by them. So make sure you come to BoringSTOC
and we will show you what to do. The weather should be cooler by then.

Again thank you Matt for your hospitality, give my thank yous to your wife also. And what type of dogs are yours, again? Hope your garage door did not stay open too long after I left. I was a bit concerned about it. I got home right at 7am in time for Sue to make me breakfast. :)

Australian Cattle Dogs, common name is heelers. Skyy is the blue heeler and Ginger is the red heeler. They own the house...they just don't cook, clean, or make payments...I want their job.

Garage was fine, hope you slept alright.

I would enjoy a fall or spring tech event. I'm sure some of the other oklahoma guys will come also. Hey Chuck you were the smart one to not ride in that heat.
Look foward to seeing you guys again.
