It's been a couple months now since my 2nd shot at the ST1300.
For those that might now know... I went from a GL1800 to an ST1300 then
back to a GL1800 for 3 years and now I'm back on the ST again.
A few people have asked 'why?' as well as 'do you miss the wing'?
First, the Why.
One thing I remember vividly about the ST was how much fun it was to ride,
even just tooling down the freeway. You just always 'felt' like you were
having a good time. That has not changed, this is one fun bike.
Do I miss the wing?
Well, I'll never have anything bad to say about the GL, it's a very comfortable
bike and anyone that thinks they can't handle, isn't watching someone push
it like it can be pushed.
I decided to switch because I wanted more 'fun' in my riding and I was at a
point where I could walk away from a deal pretty much even with no loan and
a new bike.
I just wanted to say it's nice to be back on an ST and I hope this bike
satisfies my needs for a long time.

I agree, it's nice to have you back, Joe.
But just think...you could have had 2 ST1100's and a KLR:) Then think how happy you would be:)
Glad you're enjoying your new ST... Love that color! :)

Well, they're both great bikes, so you couldn't go wrong with either. And who knows, in another 3 years, you're likely to flip back to a Wing! LOL.

welcome back joe !!!
today I rode with my wife to lake tahoe early morning. not a long drive, only 220 miles. first 50 miles were a bit painful, as i was still a little drowsy, it was 55F, and i was doing a long ride after a while. a few times the evil thought passed my mind -- will a wing be more comfortable ? and then now i see this...

whatever makes you ride!!!
True, I miss my ST but it's the price I had to pay to get the SO out there!...
and I still love the Wing solo....
I still have the Triumph to ROCK my world! and it does!
but more often than not, I choose the wing... I guess I just must be getting old!:o:
And I have to admit, I was always Intimidated by the wing....but when I saw Little Joe ride up at CampSTOC last year...I thought..."if he can ride it!"....
I still have no regrets! it's not WHAT you ride!...IMHO....

I'm glad you're enjoying the ST, Joe. I miss mine, but will wait for the 2010 models of the Wing and ST to come out before making a decision. (If I can wait that long).

Mac, you went through 2 wings and an ST last year. Will 2 bikes get you to 2010? LOL!! Coop goes to his corner.

Mark, Coop, that is some really cold trash talking:confused: . In the spirit of our site, I would like to apologize for the above two miscreants. I'm sure I'm not the only one who blew coffee out his nose upon reading this thread.:) :) :) :)

I too had the wing... It was great two up, but we didn't do it that often. Its not as fun as the ST(or my ole Connie for that matter). Things I don't miss abt the wing...180 miles between fill ups, fine for trips but I hated to have to fill up mid week for my commutes. Shakey right mirror. Non detatchable luggage. Crappy GPS u had to get for ABS. Stoopid anti dive mechanism and front forks(hey, they give Traxxion alot of business). 35 mpg. In other words, just the opposite of why I love the ST. Come to think of it, the only two reasons I liked the bike was power & comfort. For two upping the ST's got enuff power for me, but the wife now compares her comfort to the ez chair of the wing-not fair!

Just like jeff123 I bought a Wing for two up riding. I had a 1985 BMW K100RS for about 20 years and it was just too small for both my wife and I. I sold it and got the Wing. Well my wife rode with me about four times and liked it but was never really thrilled. It had nothing to do with the Wing, just riding in general. Then two things happened … 1, I got that famous front end wobble thing and 2, one of the guys in my local Honda Riders Club let me ride his ST1300. That was the end of that … I sold the Wing and got the ST quicker than you can say Pan European …
