I managed to fit in a few days for a trip to Yosemite last week. LOTS of water - the Merced river was near flood stage, and the falls were roaring. I even managed to get in a trip to Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, and a couple of Pashnit (http://www.pashnit.com) routes - Cottonwood Rd / Cherry Lake Rd and Mammoth Pool.

Rather than take up all the site disk space with photos, I put some of them at my ST_Jim Webshots (http://community.webshots.com/user/st_jim) site. I will put in a couple teasers...

Enjoy,
Jim

Wow... I'm usually lucky to get one scenic pic on a trip and looks like all yours are great. Looks like I might just have a make that part of my return trip from WeSTOC this year.

Mellow - by September the river will be reduced to a trickle. I did that once with my wife along. She kept whining about "Where are all the waterfalls????" :D

Jim,
Yosemite Is one of the places we had to cut from our mid western trip of a few years ago. I can see from your most awesome pictures, that was a mistake. I love them, thank you.

YOSEMITESTOC, that would be way cool to be able to do.

I was there during a drought. (Colorado?) falls was about the same as in your photo but Bridalveil was just a trickle. Thanks for the pics, awesome.

Hey Jim,

What the heck is swimming around in the foreground on your second pic?? Is that a bear or some antlered animal???

Great shots.

:D I think its some weathered wood. I had to go back to the original and blow it up - I still couldn't tell for sure! The forest rat picture I took didn't make the cut.

BTW, all you guys need to stop flattering me. The beauty in Yosemite is all due to Mother Nature - not to my photo talent. No matter where you turn, there's something that goes stright to the soul.

FYI, these photos were taken with a 4 megapixel Canon S400 pocket size camera. All I did was import them into Microsoft "Picture It" (comes with MS Works), crop and straighten, adjust the contrast a little to cut through some of the haze, and resize to 800x600 (or 640x480 for the forum here). No fancy SLR or PhotoChop mastery needed!

If planning on going to Yosemite in late summer you could be disappointed in the waterfalls. I've been there 4 times hiking and camping in late August and the amount of water coming over the falls (Yosemite and Bridalveil in particular) is greatly reduced. Its still worth the trip ( I tell everyone Yosemite is one of those places you should visit at least once before you die ) but be prepared for a lot less water than shown in these great pictures.

Jim, did you take the HWY120 all the way through past Tuolumne meadows to Mono Lake or is that still closed [The Tioga pass that is] ? If it's open, I'm gonna go next weekend. I need the spiritual uplift!!

The Tioga Pass Road part of 120 was and is still closed. It was closed at Crane Flat when I was there (the western edge of Yosemite Park). My understanding now is that it is open to Yosemite Creek now (about halfway to Tuolumne Meadows). Still closed on the eastern end.

HeHe, you gotta love it! "There is no estimated opening this year of Hwy 120 with avalanches still occurring", quotes the web site. And there is another storm coming in tomorrow(Thurs) with snow levels around 8,000 ft., bringing more snow to this area. :biker:

We are expecting snow tonight and tomorrow at Tioga Pass. Sonora pass will get their fair share too.
