I should be picking up my new ST 1300 in a week or two :D and am going to ask the dealer to install a top box. Which is preferable--Honda or Givi?
Thanks for any help.

Honda looks better integrated, has a better backrest.
GIVI costs much less, holds more.
Both look great

Gerrys,
Its up to you.
Its a matter of taste and costs and which matters most. From what I understand, Givi makes both of the boxes. (Even the 'Hondaline')
From my point of view I liked the Hondaline because it looked like it belongs on the bike AND I was willing to shell out the extra dough. Thats the question you need to ask yourself.
One side note: The install on the Hondaline box is easy enough despite the lousy intructions..Make sure you have whoever is doing the install put the black plastic piece back on the back rack before the mounting plate goes on. I failed to do this and so I did the install twice. There are a few posts with good pictures on this site.
Good luck.

I'll give you a couple threads on this same issue to start you off.

I think either is fine so it boils down to options and a personal decision. I have the Givi and really like it but there's plenty out there that like the Honda one also.

I just installed the Hondaline top box and spoiler. It looks fantastic and the install was simple and painless. There is a photo in the Photo Board forum here (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3645&page=2).
I think the givi e460 looks as good or better than the honda, and it's much more visable (and a bunch 'o change left in da pocket mon  :D ).

I've read all the threads and I still have a question: what is the carrying capacity of the Hondaline topcase?
FWIW, I have an E50 Givi on my 1100, and I'm really cautious about getting anything smaller. I'm a big guy, and a weeks worth of my clothes fills up the 50. My two cents.

thinking about a 1300 this winter, hoping they're black.
Jack,
From a very subjective observation, the 52's all look too wide to me on the 13... not as much so on the 11.
The airflow around the fairing on the 13 is tighter and comes back together harder behind the driver (hence posts attesting to many unhappy pillions, including mine who now misses our 11 A LOT).
I went w/ the E460 for a handfull of reasons including I believed it would craete less resistance/turbulance... but I have absolutely nothing to prove that. I may get a chance this weekend to ride a 13 with a 52 (to check out John's new seat?)... will try to get back to you on what I conclude before I leave for Maine on Sun. (or else I'll forget~) if it happens. In that Givi makes the Honda box, and Honda went w/ 46, I'm inclined to believe there is something to my observation... who knows :shrug1:
RC, thought the pans were 20#, and the tail only 10# if so, I have proved on many occasions that it will hold quite a bit more...

Something that I have notice with the Honda topbox: It seems to extend further back. No one has mentioned any concerns about the weight of things getting so far behind the rear axle. A non-issue?
I thought it would also interfere with the integrated look, but other posts seem to be unanimous that it still looks more integrated than the Givi.

I have the GIVI and it works great, also this is the 3d bike for it. I am getting it painted to match the bike (again)

The GIVI box is being installed. Thanks for all the help. Decision was based on dealer's recommendation (a friend). :biker:
