Well I dont make it a point to read the thread here in this section of the site...but heck these things are piling up on me so the weight of guilt is a heavy burden my brothers and sisters... You know in the 32 years of riding I've had nothing more than 4 tip overs total and 0 accidents and have never otherwise been down or off my bikes. The very first time was 32 yrs ago ..was learning to ride a bike that was not for a beginner and it wasnt the ST so we wont count that...fast fwd to last yr.CT-STOC'07 I stayed in a nice cabin at Water's Edge Campground. There was an odd angle and incline sloping down from the road towards the cabin. Its all dirt and sand...most of it hard packed but not all of it.As I tried to duckwalk the bike backwards down the incline I got to a point where I lost my footing in the loose material and next thing I know is I'm not gonna fight the weight and bing over she goes on her left side.Because of the terrain I could not get the bike upright without the timely help of Big Al who was standing there. Thanks Big Al.Bike was fine OFC a little scuff on the tipover wing...#2 I was at the Yamaha XSEast Rally over the Memorial Day weekend in E.Stroudsburg PA.This rally and forum are for the '78-'84 XS/XJ1100s'.On the first days ride,I went all day without incident at the last stop before heading back to our motel we stopped in a parking lot acroos the Del River from the Del Water Gap and had a fantastic view of the "Point of the Gap".I was moving my bike around to park it and I used too much front brake and lost the balance point and over she went...on the right side and onto the extended MCL highway wing(s) on that side. The wing stuck into the asphalt and the bike nevergot close to touchung the ground. Two couples who were riding FJR1300s' were really amazed that the wings and tip over bars do what they're supposed to.I was able to right the bike with alot of ppl assisting but I actually had it up most of the way myself before anyone else got there.Again those FJR owners were impressed with the design of the ST.#3...Two weeks later another nice ride on a weekday up to my fave restaurant along the Del River for food and PIE!!!Coming into Frenchtown they are m/c friendly and even provide a m/c only parking area .I pull in and its empty and again I am manuevering into where I want to park and again I grabbed the front brake a littel too abruptly and wouldn't you know that it went over again...on the same extended wing...bent again for the 2nd time:eek:  Well I have been working out and now nobody was anywhere near me so I walked around to extend the side stand thats now facing up and walk back to the right side thats down and lean into the bike to get the wheell to pivot the weight bac k up and over onto the sidestand...Phew...sorry for the long wind...I have to say that MCL's highway wing itself was only minimally damaged the wing's pivot bolt tokk the most punishment and was bent four times in the process and it never broke...each time it was bent by accident I was able to bend it back...but the right wing while it still worked was very loose so i replaced it along with the new hardware. Those highway blades are tough grade aluminum..I am amazed...as for all these tipovers on the ST..it is rather disconcerting...I briefly put the bike up forsale posting an ad here but quickly changed my mind. The ST1100 is STill the beST bike I've ever owned...:D :bow1: :biker: :biker: :biker: So gimmee my award(s):p:

Ah yess I've been liberated...free at last ...LOL You can bet I dont touch the front brake anymore while in parking lots.If I had any other kind of bike,it wouldn't be as forgiving as the ST when tipped over.Well that better be it for a while. Its the only thing abt this bike that I dont like...that its top heavy.Dont know what I'd do if this turns into a recurring theme. Now you know why I had the bike up forsale... ever so briefly before my reasoning came back int focus...at least for the time being:eek:  :biker:

I had my first tip on the ST yesterday, No damage.
I had a Wing for years and own a picnic spot by a waterfall.
I would drive down in there with the Wing to go swimming all the time. When the grass was a little wet it was SO easy to tip over when turning around.
It happened a few times. I had bars on the front and back plus low floorboards and when it went over it seemed like it was maybe 3/4 over laying there never all the way. I could right it then, but now that I am older I bet I couldn't. The ST and Wing are not dirt bikes, that's for sure.
