Turbo City shelf:

Could someone who has one of the current style Turbo City shelves take a measurment or two for me?

How far behind the top edge of the dash does the shelf stick out (to the rear of the bike)?

Does the shelf extend forward, ahead of the edge of the dash? If so, what it the total length of the shelf?

I had the windshield cowl off my bike today (already started farkling), and it appears to me that the TC shelf attaches only to plastic. Is this correct? Would you trust it to mount a fairly heavy GPS (2730)?

BLM shelf (from spoiled biker):

Could someone who has this shelf tell me how far behind the rear edge of the edge of the dash does this extend?

How deep (front to rear) is the shelf near the sides?

Does this attach to any metal parts, or only to plastic?

Many thanks,

Bob: I have the BLM shelf and went with it for the main reason of SUPPORT. IMHO it will hold more weight with the metal arms that hold it up, not to mention it has very good bolting support up top as well.

The shelf is basically 6 inches wide and is pretty much perfectly balanced over the edge of my '06 1300; meaning 3 inches sits behind the leading edge of the dash trim and 3 inches extends beyond the leading edge of the dash trim.

The shelf is NOT as wide as the dash itself, it sits in 3/4 of an inch on each side (in other words the shelf does NOT stick out too wide over the edges of the dash where a wide windshield might hit it...it won't).

I have attached a photo of my 'cockpit' when I'm a ref at a big bike race, on the dash sits (from L to R) is a Ham Radio HT, Garmin 60C GPS, 3 stop watches, and in the middle under the watches is my Smart Tire monitor. What you can't see is the holder for my XM antenna which is behind the watches.

I am 6' tall with a 32 inch inseam, I have the OEM seat Spencerized, have the seat bracket (under the seat) built up just over 1/4 of an inch to raise the seat up even higher, the seat is raised to the highest setting, which leads to one downfall of the shelf...I can't see the turn signal indicators on the dash. Hence, if you look right above the speedo you can see 3 LED lights (red, green, red). The left red is my left turn signal, the green is the indicator that tells me the driving lights are ON, the right red LED is my right turn signal.

I haven't had any problems with the shelf and HIGHLY recommend it!

Thanks Hojo. That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for.
