Ok, so I'm going to be 65 this month, and just started another series of Synvisc injections to my left knee. This has been a problem knee for years.

The orthopedic surgeon says I should get my knee replaced as the Synvisc is not lasting the full six months now. I always use my left leg at the stop signs, using my right leg to work the brake, holding on a grade.

As anyone had a knee replacement, and has it stopped them from ridding?? Been ridding off and on since I was 14 and really don't want to stop now. Advice needed.

I had my right knee replaced two years ago and will need the left one replaced before too much longer. I was worried about riding and some people told me I would never ride again. But I have not had any problems and the new knee is doing great ! I think it was about 8 to 10 weeks before I rode a motorcycle after the replacement . Lots of miles latter....everything is A OK . My wife and I are getting ready to leave for a two week ride on the ST soon:D

Had a full right knee repacement June of 2006. Was riding a Honda VTX 1800 at the time. Started riding the bike to therapy sessions ( 27 miles one way) three weeks after the surgery.

VTX gone, FJR gone, now on the ST and haven't looked back. No negatives from the surgery. Riding a road bicycle in local club rides and occassional centuries. No issues.

Thanks Guys, I was really wondering if my ridding days were going to be over. I've heard both good and bad about knee replacements, but nobody I know has as had a motorcycle.:)

Chris had her right knee replaced and 11 years later had it redone (smartest thing she has ever done both times!).
The Dr. that did the replacement rides an HD and said "no problem" when she asked.
She rides her ST1300 without any problems at all.

There is plenty of PT before you'll be comfortable and get your range of motion back to where *you* want it (that means that if you don't work hard you will not have good range of motion; but, that it is up to you).
After you're done with PT your strength will be coming back and you'll be able to ride again at your own convenience/choice.

Good luck with the surgery!

I am a member of the titanium club too, partial left knee. I have dropped my bike more on the right than the left :o:

Get out there and ride!! But you gotta do the PT and yes, it hurts.
