We just got home today from a wonderful ride through Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Nevada. OK, so eastern Nevada was nothing special. We left Boise June 1 and rode to Denver via every national park and twisty road we could find. 2500 miles later we rode into our friend's place in Denver. Zion Nat'l Park was fantastic and St. George was HOT!! Bryce was nice and we loved riding throug Captol Reef. The Colorado Monument National park was great, as was Grand Mesa and the Black Canyon on the Gunnison. There were way too many great twisty roads to mention and we had a blast going to Telluride and spending the night in Ouray. Ouray looks like a village in the Swiss Alps. The ride to Durango was great and we enjoyed Mesa Verde, where we camped. The high point, literally, was Independent Pass and the low point was the horrendous rain we had to ride through to get into Denver, on I-70. Had to do the freeway because the pass over Rocky Mtn. National Park was closed due to snow. We had a great local ride on Monday, but the wind was vicious. Breakfast in Nederland, CO was fun. Nederland is the home of the "Frozen Dead Guy." In fact, the have an annual celebration called The Frozen Dead Guy Days. But that's another story.
We left Tuesday and Wednesday we rode through Poudre Canyon. Now there's a great ride. Spent the night in Vernal, UT and the next day the famous wind in Wyoming very nearly blew us off the road. It was definitely white knuckles time for about 10 minutes. After a short recovery period, we went on to Logan, UT for the night, and then home today. Oh yeay, the wind was so strong it sucked the map right out of the map pocket on my tank bag!!! We're ready to go again as soon as the bikes are cleaned up.
The first shot is me in Zion Nat'l Park. The next one is obvious. The next one is of my wife, me, and her dad as we were coming out the west end of the Poudre Canyone drive in Colorado. The last two are of me and Peggy at a pullout coming down into Flaming Gorge.
