OK,

This sounds doable, need to run it by the approval unit since I was gone for a week already this month.

Counting down...

(and trying really hard not to include any BBQ in my diet until then so I'll be ready for Mueller's)

I'll sure try and make it. My sons are coming in from Denver and Kansas City around that time so I'll have to wait and see. Sound great.

You're killing me. This would be a great chance to take the bike out and meet some fellow STers and enjoy some great BBQ. It's been a couple years since I have been out there for BBQ.

Unfortunately, this is my kid weekend.

Eat some for me and have a great time. I'll have to catch another gathering.

My timing stinks. I leave tomorrow morning for a 2200 mile bike ride to the Carolinas and back and now I am going to miss the RTE in Oklahoma and this one.:( Too bad there on the same day as each other or I might be able to make one of them. Maybe we can do this again next month somewhere?

No hurricanes in the Gulf yet... I said yet
This could change if you get all systems go from the approval unit.

I need to get a nail hole in the rear (tire) patched before I commit.
A BBQ fix sounds good and I've never been to Louie's Meullers before.

Heck yeah, Mac! It's right exactly in between where you are and where you're going. For example:

1. Make sure you start in Canton.
2. Make sure you pick a stop in California.
3. Make sure Taylor is in the way! Shouldn't be too hard. Taylor hasn't moved in years.

Simple, I know, but I like to help out where I can. :D

Hope to see you there!

I'm a little concerned about the heat on the ride home. It's supposed to hit 98 degrees tomorrow and, close to the coast, you can bet the humidity will be above 80%.

Still, Mueller's BBQ is supposed to be some of the best around...

Guess that means the faster I go the cooler I'll be!:D

I will not make it. Had to pull up in Meridian Miss. tonight - tired of battling rain. And it's too far to get there for lunch, assuming I sleep. And, after a couple lousy nights in the tent, this motel [bed] with Internet is pretty plush, so I expect sleep to be pretty easy. Have fun. Already called the wife and said to pick up some BBQ at the local place we like, so I'll get some anyway.

Well I just got back to Dallas from the RTE in Taylor,Tx at Muellers BBQ. I had a great ride down from Dallas as it was pretty cool in the morning, but the ride back topped out about 103 and I was about tapped out when I got home. Anyway, I met some great people and got to see a lot of different bikes and talk to their owners. I was able to broadened my knowledge of different bikes and enjoy their company. Thanks guys for your patience. Here are a few pictures I took. Know anyone?

Well I owe alot of thanks to Michael and Karen Snyder.

I was following them to San Marcos then I would carry on to Cibolo (San Antonio)

Well along 21 outside of San Marcos my bike started feeling strange, but we were on a rough bit of asphalt. We get to a smooth patch and the rear end is starting to dance around.

I pull over and Mike gets turned around. Karen stopped and turned around when she could see Michael and myself off the bike.

I get it up on the center stand and we spin the rear and SON OF A........

Thats a big hole. I had plugs, but had taken my pump out this past week when I needed a little more room. We were about a mile from the San Marcos Airport where Michael flys out of. He was able to get someone from there to come out with an air can.

No good. The hole was too big. Well we nursed the bike to the airport to get out of the sun and into the AC.

In the process teh sidewall was taken out.

Well Michael arranged a tow truck (I'll let him admit to anything he wants to...) The tow truck arrives and I'm of the 35N Honda. Apparently Karen had called ahead and they knew I was coming. Unfortunately they didn't have my size in stock.

Luckily, I only live about 20 miles away from there wo my wife picked me up.

I had a great time today though seeing old, and making new friends even though my non riding friends can't see why anyone would ride that far for lunch.

In any case I want to thank Mike, Karen, the guys at the San Marcos Airport for all the help.

Karen and I had a great time today. Good to see folks we don't get to very often. Visited with Fred and Chris for a while ( I still can't believe Chris rides from LA to get BBQ)
Sparky and Linda were their usual selfs and lots of fun to chat with. Imrubicon and his daughter always will give you a laugh...glad they made it even with the back problems.

We hooked up with Russ for the ride home and well he posted the story. I was just glad to help in anyway I could. The only thing I will admit to is when you call HRCA roadside service just say you were riding the bike when it broke and they will dispatch a tow even if you don't own it. Sorry you didn't make it home but glad it wasn't worse. Dang that was a big hole in that thing.

Oh yeah, THANKS! to Dave for setting this thing up...good to chat with you even if it was just a short visit.

Woo hoo. Nice 400mile ride today folks.

I actually got the faster than I expected, took a turn through the parking lot and saw not a single bike. Went back up Main, bought some gas and returned only to see Preston and Dave skulking in the shade.

Well, maybe not skulking...

Anyway, that was some good brisket though a bit peppery for my taste. I'd say the jury is still out.

Coming down, got 43.75MPG in a headwind. Going back at somewhat elevated speeds (85+ for the most part) I checked when I got to Bedford. 47.25MPG. For the past three tanks, I've used mid-grade, 89 octane. Must have helped.

Anyway, thanks again to Mr. Bankhead for publishing this particular RTE. Always nice to see old friends and meet some new ones, even if they *do* ride on odd looking green machines (with matching pants!).

Cheers,

Great ride to Taylor nice and cool for July in Texas. Made a driveby in Lexington to checkout Snows BBQ, 9:30 there was aline outside the door, have to wait until the Texas Monthly best BBQ in Texas news wears off. Took 112 from Lexington to Taylor there must not have been much rain in the area because the crops are burnt up hope the farmers took out crop insurance. Arrived at Muellers about 10:30.
I got brisket ,sauage link, and a pound of ribs for the house.
Soon it was time to head back to Fulshear I had a wedding to attend in the evening. Hot ride back temp showed between 95 and 104 degrees. Stopped outside of Geddings at a picnic area and consumed one of the bottled waters I had. Short ride on 290 then at Ledbetter back to two lanes. Stopped in Cat Spring for another water break and then home . I was beat with the wind and heat and being full of BBQ.
Chris rode the farthest but Ed was a close second on the KLX 250.
My opinion is Muellers is not the best BBQ I have eaten but it is not the worst by far. Luling City Market is my favorite might need to ride to Luling some Monday.
Thanks for everyone showing up I hate to eat alone.

Back home safe at about 1330, immediately in the car to go pick my daughter up from band camp.

I had a good time, got to see Medicine bear, re-met (if thats a word) Mike Synder and had a good conversation or two with Dave and Keith, some other folks.

I like these BBQ rides, gives me a chance to get over into Tx. ride around and eat some. Showing 886 fro the trip, not too bad...The KC BBQ ride was 1135 and Moonshine is 1180.

I need to figure out a fall RTE over here for some seafood, just haivng too much fun ridin out to eat and se Y'all

Thanks again to Dave for suggesting this one...

I may be a poor judge of bbq sometimes, I am still giving Woody's in Centerville my highest score, Louie Millers Second along with Hotglues Q, the place in KC 3rd and Luling 4th. for this cycle. Coopers was OK at 5th...

Having said that, all were worth the trip.

Chris :06biker:

Oh, BTW The era of the Sport Tourer must be here. For this ride, not counting Goldwings, I got 25 assorted ST bikes on the highways. I even saw two 13's one on I-10 around Winnie and another in Lafayette at the Eraste Landry Wal _MArt

This sounds like a winner Chris. I used to live in Lafayette ('77 - '82). My favorite place was Richard's Seafood Patio in Abbeville :eat1: but if I remember right, they were only open in the evening. Perhaps there's somewhere equally as unique these days that's open for lunch on the weekends. Anything you choose will be fine and I'll sure make an effort to go.

Just googled Richard's and to my surprise, they are still there. Wonder if the original owner still has it (Red?). If not, sure hope they haven't screwed it up much by "updating it". We use to go to Black's for fresh Oysters there just off the Abbeville town square. I was there in 2006 and found they had moved into much bigger, more modern digs which totally destroyed the ambiance.

The reason I was in Abbeville in 2006 was that it was a point along the way on a tour I was doing of southwest and south Louisiana to see the effects of Rita and Katrina. The link below is a report with pics of the trip:

http://www.hal-pc.org/~mmcham/my_little_trip.html

By the way, for those of you who are not familiar with the ways of Acadiana, Richard's is pronounced "Ree-shardz".

The Texas Monthly top 50 BBQ joints internet article has a Google map with the 50 located . There were 3 in Taylor and 8 in the Houston area.
Out of the 50 I have been to 12 of them .
Might need to combine my courthouse picture tour with the top 50 BBQ joints.

Personal Preference man, personal preference...but I gotta tell ya, me , Little John, Al and Sherob all had a real experience with the "brontochops" I also think that the German sasage at woodys is better than the others. Now if we are just going by Brisket, the ranking changes with Luling #1. I am talking about the whole Q spectrum....
