Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place for this posting but I wasn't sure.
Anyways I joined this forum in hopes to find a used back rest for a ST1300(Pan European) I rented in Europe last month. As it turn out I purchased a new one from Premier Cycles and took it with me but never used it, but used the top case supplied with the bike instead. Having a 07FJR I was excited to ride the ST as I knew it would be similar. Someone mentioned I do write up so here goes. The bike had only 4,000 Kilometers. I put about 2,500 on it. All type of rides from flats to mountain passes. Two up with side bags and top case lightly loaded. We had our luggage transported daily. (Edelweisse Bike tours).BTW if anyone is on the fence with a tour like this, do it, you will not regret it! This was my second time and although I know it could be done cheaper it's worth every penny!!!
First off I really liked the ST. It is everything everyone has said about it here and in all the magazines. I can't really say anything different bewtween what has been said already regarding the more touring than sport which is excactly how I would describe it. It was more comfortable and it has more wind protection then my FJR. It did not have the power of the FJR but had more then enough for the passes we took. I like the gearing, the speedo, and the windshield better also. With two up, side bags, and top case it handled very well. No problems with this bike at all, I can see myself buying a ST.
I've been riding Harleys since 1989 and BMW's since 2002 and have gravitated back to the (Japanese) sport touring bikes because they are so damm good. For the money these sport tourers are safer, faster and so much more fun to ride.
So that's about it, I really enjoyed riding the ST.
The backrest has sold and I'm back to the FJR forum but will try to keep my membership here in good standing!
Ride Safe.
Thanks
