I just rode Pa 144 from Galeton to Moshannon July 4th. I wanted to let you guys know that they chip stoned from W. Renovo to about 1/3 the way south to Moshannon. It sucks but does't last too long. It's also posted 35 mph and I did see a cop! Cops were out in force July 4. Quite a bit of loose gravel Friday. It will get better when the cars beat the stone in. Just to let you guys know.

Even if the traction improves, here's the problem. Cars and trucks coming at you from the other direction will shower you with small chips that will mess up your paint and maybe a windshield. Who needs that? The first week my wife had her new Forester they tarred and chipped the road she uses. The car was a mess and still is. She said a pickup truck with huge tires came at ther from the other direction at a fast speed.

We will keep it in mind. We didn't ride that stretch when Bones and I were out there. We saw no LEO's I would guess they were out due to the Holiday weekend. Thanks for the warning. I hope everyone is reading these tips you guys send out.

A lot of the roads up here are tar and chipped and you have to careful of the loose gravel for a couple of weeks after they are redone. It doesn't take long for the traffic to beat the suface in.

You also have to watch out if it rains. Sometimes they get too much goo on the road and not enough chips. Then when the cars beat it down a bit, there can be spots with tar and not enough chips left for traction, which can lead to a patch that feels like ice in the rain.
