I have a pair of Goretex Oxtars that aren't so old, maybe 5000 miles in them, and you can see in the pic that the welt is pulling away from the foot along the reinforced area. The gap goes all the way down to the sole, and water is getting in there.

Now you might say "Hey, that's normal, the wear and tear from the shifter is gonna do that." But you see, my left boot is fine. This is a pic of my right boot.

I can take it to a shoe repair place who'll charge me $50 to strip off the entire sole and re-glue it. But I'm hoping that maybe someone here knows exactly the right product that will fix this. Barge cement obviously won't since there's no leather involved. Glues that get too hard won't work since the boot has got to flex. Shoo-Goo won't last long because it's almost impossible to get down in the crack to clean and prep the area. Since it's rubber on rubber, I was actually thinking about using a tire repair glue.

I'm not really looking for helpful suggestions like why don't you try this, or maybe such-and-such will help. What I'm really looking for is someone who has had this problem, fixed it permanently, and can tell me how.

Anybody got the solution?

Shoo-Gooo is the stuff.

Use a Q-Tip with some isopropyl alcohol to clean the hole and let it dry overnight, then take the tip off of a Q-tip and use the stick to feed some goo into the hole. I would use some electrical tape (sticky side up) to tighten it down. I had the SO help when starting the tape up job. The extra hands helped a lot.

my .02.

OK, I cleaned it out with rubbing alcohol, even squirted a couple of syringe-fulls down in there to flush out any sand etc., dried it, then Goo'ed it and wrapped it with tape. I'm going to let it sit there for three days before putting it to the test (Goo tube says max strength reached after 48-72 hours.) If it's still holding by the end of the summer, then I'll be pleased.

If that doesn't work, perhaps a rubber cement like used in above ground pool liner patches would join the two pieces of rubber securely.
