Okay, I added a drop counter to your profile area - bottom of the edit details section.

So, if you've ever dropped your ST or STs, you can add the drop count there.

Just something fun, no lighters yet sorry.

Yeah.. since the mileage counter is used as a calculation field to sum all of them up, you'll need 6 digits there even if they are all zeros.

Thanks Mellow, not only are we shamed once by dropping it now we have to let everyone know. Oh well, I just hope there are some out there with more drops than mine. Both of mine came in the same week. Ouch! At least I dropped it on the same side both times.

That's just wrong on so many levels..... :D

On my second ride after having my suspension done, I was playing around ona very very twisty road (25mph curves) and danced into a right-hander, and STrike II responded faster that I expected and dove deeper into the corner than I expected. So deep that the underbelly made contact with the asphalt curb as I was looking down over the precipice. A hard crack of the throttle straightened her back up and I went marrily on my way.

On getting home I noticed that my right side underbelly has a gash in it and now needs replacement.

Does that count? The underbelly made road contact, but I technically did go "down" (yah, that would've be a real fun one....)

Ok, Mellow
I dropped mine 2 times on each side at the advanced riders course. I was eager to learn what I forgot over 10 years of not riding. With only 3 days with My ST figured I could handle it. What can I say just a scratch on each wing. I learned a lot and now work to keep the count the same.

So in the Stats section on the home page, just under combined miles, we need combined drops. Then we could average the miles per drop. This is starting to remind me of the airplane and conveyor belt thread. Maybe time for a friendly bump. :-) Another Forum Farkle brought to us by Mellow.

Practice slow speed work real slow and real tight and the chances greatly increase to drop the bike. I bought a new tip-over wing cover after one drop on each side and did not buy another after the second drop on the left side. That seemed to do the trick as I haven't dropped it since.

So does that mean that since I have dropped it twice on the right side that I now have to drop it on the left before I can relax?

Dropped it 2 times.
1st - it was 2 weeks old and I was backing down a ramp and put my foot out for stability ...... well you know the rest ...... the ground was about 10 inches below my foot.

2nd - I was backing out of a parking lot. Put it in gear and turned the handle bars to move out........... gave it just enough gas to move the bike about 4 inches and stalled the engine. Yep - over she went. Poor Ruby will she ever be the same? Thank Honda for tip-over wings. Not even a scratch.

No, you must remain vigilant for your time is yet to come. What I meant was as long as there is a scuff on a tip-over wing I'm covered.

2 saves, both in the garage while doing my daily 180* turn around to put her in her parking place between the 2 cars in there.

2 times I have jabbed my foot down in a low speed U to keep her on her way...
does that count as 2 more saves?

It cost $600 to replace the plastic on the ZZR1200, and it cost about $300 (1980 bucks) for the GS1100. Wish they had tip overs wings on those bikes!

Ironically, I finally dropped the bike on Tuesday night this week. backed out of the driveway from a different angle after washing it and when I steered the rear around I ended up right on the apex of the end of the driveway with both tires when I stopped. It was about a 25-30 degree lean. I tried the brakes to hold it but the angle was too much and as you folks intrstucted me just get out of the way. The tip over wing did it's thing with no other damage. I may or may not replace it. It was my first accident on a bike. Only thing hurt was my pride. Already healed from that.

Thanks for all the advice.

Not right now. The problem is that I have an PIC line in my (for IV) that goes up my arm and into my chest. I have to give myself IV drugs everymorning. But taking a shower with this thing sticking out of my arm means wrapping it with saran wrap and taping it so it doesn't get wet. Which means no riding to work..So I have to take the other 2 wheels in to work (with the engine)

I will get out on it this weekend hopefully.

I went 10 years with my ST1100 and never once, not even in the garage, did I have a drop. Traded it in on my ST1300 and 6 months later was riding the Willow City loop off of Texas hiway 16. While doing a walking speed, water crossing, in 1 inch of water, the back end of the bike came out from under me. Green Slime will get you every time. Scuffed up the tipover wing and left a fingernail size scratch on the bottom of the exhaust pipe. That was 5 years ago. So in over 15 years of ST riding I have only had 1 Drop. Now if we talk about my dirt bikes, that is another story..........

I updated mine with "12" tho that's prolly low.

Dropped STick 4 times during the WeSTOC alone.

Dropped ReSTored 5 times during my spring ride.

First drop on STick was _way_ back in 93.

Several more in between, lots of tip-over covers, mirrors, mirror covers. Awaiting a left side replacement as we speak.

Kempo, like I said I'm not proud of it. On the good side, I can pick up a fully loaded ST on my own; on the bad side, once she starts to tip it's _very_ hard to catch it.

I've dropped lots of bikes (dropped the _new_ VFR on both sides first time I washed it, had the GL1500 roll off the sidestand and bust the left side cover one time) but prolly dropped the STs the most. OTOH, I have a combined 250,000 miles or so on various STs.

If you don't drop at least once a year.

1 Your legs are too long
2 You have too smooth a driveway
3 You don't appreciate gravel, especially gravel on pavement
4 You hate to stop on sloping pull overs
5 You figured out that the front brake should not be used when stopping in gravel
6 You figured out that the ST is not an off-road bike
7 You are not ridding enough
8 Other ....

So far never dropped it while under power, just while stopping or at stop. Hum, Hum. Reminder to self, keep on the throttle.
