Ordered my Stebel compact about a month ago. I finally got around to installing it today. After tearing everything apart, I wired it up and got zilch, zero, not even a peep out of it. Man, was I disappointed.
First I thought maybe a bad relay. I had an extra and tried it. Still nothing. Connected my multimeter to the pos and neg that connect to the horn and got 12V when I pressed the horn. Then I hooked up the stock horn via the relay and it functioned perfectly.
I emailed Aventurers Workshop with my problem. I think I'll leave the bike apart until I hear from them.

Major bummer.
Your oil level looks good :)

As a test, try connecting the OEM horn lead directly to the Nautilus and see if it will sound. You won't want to wire it that way permanently but it will be ok for a brief test. If the horn now works, something's goofed up in the wiring. I know when I first connected mine it didn't work either - because I forgot to put a fuse in the in-line fuse holder that I placed into the new line from the battery. There, I said it. :o:

Reminds me of the 2 hours I spent troubleshooting possible wiring problems (I'd been doing a number of electrical upgrades) only to discover the kill switch was off!!

If the factory horn works in with the same wiring you have it right.
Try smaking the horn in your hand once or twice and see if it works. If not try the wiring backwards.
Other than that, they need to send you a new horn. Its bad.
Hey it happens!

With a previous bike, and the first in a few years, I didn't notlce the kill switch had changed from a momentary to a rocker switch. I called for a tow, only to have the guy casually reach over and flip the switch. :cus:

To all: I appreciate the suggestions.
wjbertrand: I've been bitten by the missing fuse problem before. Not this time though. I did remember to put it in.
Rob: :bow1: Your suggestion to smack it did the trick. I'll add 'smack it' to my general trouble-shooting guide. It used to work well with my little brother. Don't know why I forgot it!
Thanks again to everyone. I love this board!

The magnets in the air horn motor sometimes gets locked up in shipping.(That is shipping to the vendor, not you) It happens. It has to do with what happend when you have a whole bunch of motors all packed together.
Once electricity gets flowing throught the motor the mags re-align and it is highly rare that you would ever have a problem again.
Blow the horn a few dozen times if you are concerned but if you believed me enough to smack it in the first place follow the logic that I understood what the problem was in the first place. :)
I would not be offended if you sent it in for another one. But I think you will be just fine with the one you have.

Another little electronics trick we all learn the hard way....
When you first recieve your new electronic farkle, simply hook it up to the battery positive and ground and make sure it works BEFORE removing the tupperware and other body parts and going through the installation. Sometimes bad parts are shipped, just ask some of the J&M owners out there.

Rob, thanks for the explanation. When the smack worked, I figured something inside was temporarily stuck. I was satisfied enough with your solution to go ahead and install the unit. It's working perfectly. Just ask my neighbors.
Thanks again.

I totally agree with Dorian.
And yea, my neighbors just love my horns as well. LOL
I put the larger version of this horn on my Honda Element. :)

Good advice. Typically I do test the components. But this time I was adding some other items that required a "tupperectomy" so it wouldn't have been a total loss.
