Mobile Internet while travelling

First, hopefully this is in the right section, if its not one of the mods can move it.

Next year I am intending to go away for three weeks into europe covering france Spain, Portugal, Italy Switzerland Belguim and home, I was intending taking my small laptop to make bookings/changes to accommodation etc.

Taking internet on mobile telephones out of the equation has anyone got any advice about PAYG mobile internet which some companies are offering in the UK. I am not interested in taking out a contract as I will ony probably only use it for 3 weeks.

Hopefully someone who has a better working knowledge of this in the UK will help me out with this

I dont know if anyone in the States has used anything similar but advice from everyone would be appreciated.

Last fall I went to Germany for a few weeks vacation. We had our laptop with and used it in hotels mainly. We also had signed up for T-Mobile's hotspot for 30 days. It happened that the first hotel we stayed in had T-Mobile for their Wifi and we had to buy a day pass. They happened to have a sale going on so it was only a few Euros more for a 30 pass vs 3 day. We found that T-mobile had hot spots in many of the McDonalds that we stopped in. Not that we were eating there but if we found one on the way and wanted a break we would stop and have an ice cream while surfing the internet. Now this was in Germany and I didn't see that in your list but something like this might be an option. I think if you go to T-Mobile's web site they may have a list of hot spot locations in Europe. Let that be a guide to help you make up your mind.

I 've read discussions on the the adventure rider forum (http://www.advrider.com/) about the very same topic, and the Horizons Unlimited (http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/) site has been mentioned there more than once. I don't have enough info to do anymore than suggest you check out both sites.....
