Just got back yesterday after leaving on 11 June to ride route 66. Put about 5100 miles on the ST. It purred like a kitten all the way. Only complaint is about the seat. It was not unbearable but wished I had gotten an after market one anyway. There is still a lot of the old road that can be ridden in all states. Some of the old stops along the route are interesting. Talking to the people along the way was probably the most interesting. Some characters still are there and willing to talk. Went from Chicago all the way to Santa Monica, CA. I came back thru Tucson to visit my son for a few days. Temperatures ranged from 52 degrees F to 111 degrees F. Just a little bit of rain but was no bother. I highly recommed the trip. I went with a group but should be fun if going alone.
Did you stop for some pie at the Mid-Point cafe in Adrian, Texas just west of Amarillo?

Hey James,
It was nice meeting you in Williams, even though I did not have my ST.
I think this is a shot of you rolling into town.

Uncle D., next time try to invite your friends!...Seriously, whats the best way to see 66? :bow1:
BTW, I'm back in the Desert where I belong!
RT 66..Break out your maps Louie. Type into Google and have fun planning.
When I STopped in at Adrian ('01) I was on a ride with some locals and we went to The Hoot in Knoxville. After, they split for home and I rode up into KY, IN. IL, MO, IA, NE, SD, WY, CO, NM, AZ and home..whee!!
So many Cracker Barrels, so little time :)
James,
Did they open up Chain of Rocks Bridge for you guys??
They used to do that from time to time...

We did stop at the mid way point, Adrian TX, to have some pie and it was really good. The Chain of Rocks Bridge was not opened for us but we stopped there for pictures. I would recommend this ride if you have the time. It was such a great time.
At Chain-of-Rocks, did you get the obligatory pix of the RT66 emblem in the middle of the road (several other places for that too).. Oh,
one more thing, how many miles a day did you guys average??
Did they push it or take their time??

I think they were pushing miles. When I saw them he was like oh yea hi, gotta get in with the group to eat.
Not even sure he remembered my post before he went on the trip or even meeting me. :(

I remember meeting you. I rode 5100 miles in 15 days. That is 340 miles per day average. It was not that bad as we were sktopping and seeing the sights. I rode mainly with a group of three others. We did at times go our own way to see things that were not on the agenda. I did get the picture of the RT 66 sign on the Chain of Rocks Bridge. One of the group I rode with had a 1992 ST1100 with over 60,000 miles and it ran strong. Says something about the engineering on the bike.
