Sept 13 we are getting a group together for a RTE. The destination is Ted's Tacos in Mancos Colorado. Sherob saw it on Feasting on Asphalt and has been hungry ever since. Mancos is located on Hwy 160 between Cortez and Durango. This SW location should be a nice ride for CO,NM and Ariz riders. Very close to some wonderful roads in all directions. This is the first weekend after TentSTOC. So mark your calendar and Lets Ride...

Teds Tacos Mancos Colorado 9/13/08 12:00:D:o::):D:o::)

The restaurant is on the south side of the hwy on the frontage road, its next to Log Cabin Liquors, which is next to Coxs Conoco. According to Mrs Ted's Tacos they have no actual address, but she guaranteed you cant possibly miss the restaurant. She also requested a count of folks showing, so early Sept we will get a list together.

This sounds like a great ride! Where do we plan on meeting and what time, etc before heading out? Approximate mileage, times? I have a kitchen pass that day...

Bob its about 350 each way, looks like we may have a good group going..Im thinking 285 route(Marks favorite), so the Conoco at Morrison and 470 would make a good choice. Say 6.00 am. for the Denver area folks. We could catch the folks coming from the Springs along the way depending on their route.

Just did some poking around... according to the Mancos Renaissance Fair (http://mancosrenaissance.com/services.htm) website Ted's Tacos is south of Hwy 160 next to Log Cabin Liquors. I didn't come across a business listing for Ted's Tacos in Dex or Yahoo Yellow Pages, but presuming the Renaissance Fair website is accurate here's a Yahoo map showing the location of Log Cabin Liquors, next door to Ted's Tacos (http://maps.yahoo.com/map?q1=41900%20Highway%20160%20Mancos%20CO&mag=5&ard=1#mvt=m&lat=37.347508&lon=-108.276823&mag=5&zoom=16&q1=41900%20Highway%20160%20Mancos%20CO&gid1=19756695).

I'm hungry :D

Got the date set on my calendar.

Duh, guess I should have checked the RTE forum first before I posted to the Colorado forum.

Looks like I might get another reprimand placed in personnel file.

Sounds like a good ride to good food!

Because I will not be able to make the September ride I decided to run 68 miles up to Mancos yesterday and give Ted's a try. It was, in a word, excellent. In another word, outstanding. I'm embarrassed to admit that this place has been operating under the radar of most of us here in NW New Mexico for quite some time.

One word of caution. This place appears to be a cop magnet!! There were about 6-7 in there yesterday noon with all but one arriving in UNMARKED cars.

Had to stop on the way from Mesa Verde. Place was already closed at 1:00 p.m.

We defiantly need an early start to get there before they close for the day.

Contemplating a trip into that region, and might try this place, if they have anything that isn't spicy, haha.

Hey Rene, I hope to do a visit in the Farmington area...would the 170/140 route be a good mc route north from your area?:07biker::)

Probably a heads up call the day before wouldin't hurt.

Ok we are getting a little closer, we should get a list going. Maybe a couple of meeting places for the ride there. I mentioned earlier meeting at the Conoco at c470 and Morrison rd. for the Denver area. If you want to meet for the ride there let us know, if you want to meet in Mancos mention that as well. This should be an awesome ride with awesome food, I look forward to meeting more of my fellow ST riders.:03biker::07biker::06biker::04biker::biker: :PoPoST1::policeST:

Getting closer gents.

Nick, what time do you think we should meet at the Conoco & 470 in Morrison?

I was kinda thinking leave the Conoco no later than 7 AM. Gives us 5 hours to drive ~345 miles.

Might need to "push" the speed limit a bit through heavily, State Patrolled, South Park.

Should we leave earlier......6 AM? Gives us time for pit stops. Gonna need a fuel stop along the way.

Ok, looking at Mapsource we have two obvious routes. Many alternatives. Route one would be 285 south to Center the 112 to 160 west to Mancos. 346 miles. Route 2 would be 285 to 50 over Monarch to the 55o and south. 382 miles, but additional time due to the awesome twisties. I will do one of the two there and the other home, so it makes no diff to me which the group takes there. Lets plan on route one unless anyone wants to adjust.

Looks like we have Rob,Rob, Mark,Dave and myself so far. Anyone else ??:eat1::eat1::06biker:

Just got back. Left home at 5:15 AM and, got home at 9:08 PM.

Well, I can now say I have driven ~800 miles for a taco. Actually, I had a burrito. Should have got the taco.

They make the taco shell with fried bread. I had fried bread on the side. Really good!:D

On the way back, came across a bad sport bike accident on CO50. Heading up the east side of Monarch pass. Looked like he lost it on a sharp right turn. Bike laying in the opposite lane. Rider was thrown over the guard rail. I think he was still alive as, stopped motorists where attending to him.

Looked like it had happened about 10-15 minutes before we got there.

Sure gave a reality check. Hope he survives.

Even had snow on the top of Monarch pass. Also got to see someone drop a nice red Goldwing. Looked pretty new. It ain't new any more.

Thanks Pat for the spirited blast through the Blue Mesa Reservoir area.:bow1: Had a blast passing the one large group of riders. Looked like a couple wings in the mix.

Hope I didn't go too fast in the dark for you Rob heading down Kenoshia pass. At least we had a full moon for extra light. Thanks for the Advil, sure helped with the stiff knees & hamstrings. It was hard to use the MCL wings on this trip. Too cold most of the trip to get a good stretch out, even with liners in the pants. The "boys" can only take so much of 30 degree temps at 60 MPH.

I hit rain again just after 470. Just enough to smear the bugs on the helmet visor and windshield.

How was your ride back Bob? Wish you could have enjoyed lunch with us.

No pictures to show but, I have some really nice gas. I know...TMI but, the burrito was great!:D

Glad you guys had a good ride. I was thinking about the trip but just could not justify 1600 miles in two days for a taco. I don't even like Tacos. Be careful coming thru 285 at night as the critters are out. By the way, how far does the 4 lane go now, on 285. Is it all the way to Baily yet? Speaking of Monarch Pass, can one still ride "dual sport" up behind Sargent's west of Monarch? Looking forward to getting back and riding with all you guys. Use to ride all that area on a regular bases back in the mid and late 90's.

Mark & Pat, thanks for letting me accompany you two to Salida. Had a nice ride up 50 to Canon City, had a late breakfast there and met a guy from Oklahoma on a black BMW K1200LT. He was on his way west towards the four corners.

My ride back was uneventful, just fast...got back around 12:30 as traffic was pretty light.

You're not kidding about the cold...brrrr...I didn't realize how cold it was until I peeled off and got some sun on my face...should've worn the long-johns...next time I will...

Looking forward to the next one!

It was an absolutely beautiful day for a ride. Lowest temp I saw was 34. Highest 77.
I got back at around 10p. Now I remember why I hate riding after dark so much. Man, that was a white-knuckler. Seeing all those glowing eye's in the brush along the road-sides, kept speeds quite low. I saw several critters (deer, coons, and what-not). Even had to stop for a group of deer to cross the road, along the South Platte, east of Deckers. I should have taken 285 with you guys, instead of peeling off on 24. Although it might have been a few extra miles, I probably would have gotten back a little sooner.

Thanks Pat for the spirited blast through the Blue Mesa Reservoir area.
Blast???? I have no idea what your talking about. Could it have been that burrito you ate :D

That was a sobering sight indeed. The whole font end of the bike had been completely ripped off, and was nowhere in sight. Basically, just a rear swinger & wheel, with a motor still bolted to it, laying in the middle of the road.

Rob, thanks for the ear plugs. I usually keep a set tucked in the wrist strap/cuff of my regular riding gloves. But grabbed the winter gloves instead, on account of the cool morning temps. I've now stocked the bike with a few fresh sets. Next time we do a ride, I'll replace the pair you gave me.
