I got my St 1300 last week and have found this forum very useful. Thanks fellas! Being in Lubbock, I do feel a little left out though .....there isn't anything cool around here and there certainly isn't much elevation to brag about. LOL! And most of the roads are straighter that Robin Hood's arrows! That's probably why my first farkle was a top box and my second a better seat. What is the hot deal on a tank bag? Is magnetic better? And who makes the best?

Blackdog... welcome to the site. There are a couple Texans around here so you're in good company but look out.. there are also some California Surfers and some Yankees too.. not to mention Canucks...
As far as tankbags are concerned, check out the search box and you'll probably find a ga-zillions posts on which tankbags are best...
I had a cortech mini-mag bag, just the right size for a camera and some little stuff but there are others that also opt for the bigger ones you can store a side of beef in.

Welcome to the madness! Good choice of bike, you will love it. As far as tank bags go there are a zillion choices. I use a cortech medium size magnetic and love it. I've never had any problems with the magnetic, even in a 55 mph crosswind. Soembody will chime in with a link or two of other tank bag discussions I'm sure. :D
Congrats for the bike and welcome to this great site. :)

The Euro Pan box has room enough for a six pack of Lone Star and all the taterchips anyone would want, so probably a smaller tank bag would work fine. They ride motorcycles up north where it's cold half the year? Heck, fireants would even tolerate that kind of climate!

Yes, it's an '05 and it's been a lot of fun after being afoot for the past twenty years.
Lubbock... Home of Buddy Holly, The Hi-Point drive in (probably gone) the
Ming Tree Resturant (probably gone) and Reese AFB, (still there)..
Fell in love in Lubbock when I was stationed at Goodfellow, (San Angelo).
Had a cousin that was stationed at Reese, used to go and see him
about once a month.. His wife had a younger sister..... Ahhh
youth... too bad it has to be wasted on the young...

Blackdog welcome to the forum - i used to think that the MSN forum was the one, but was I ever wrong - this forum rocks! Dont even go over there any more - this is a much more informative and friendly place to hang your helmet. I know how you feel about being left out - there are only about 5 or 6 ST's around this whole province which is larger in mass than TX. Was in your fair city about 5 yrs ago - couldnt remember what it was famous for until I was stopped at a light and looked up and saw I was driving down Buddy Holly Blvd - it all made sense then. And from a CDN - hats off to your fine cuisine at that TX institution Whataburger - seemed to eat there more than anywheres else.
Enjoy the ride - get out on the highway and look at Lubbock Texas in your rearview mirror (if only for the day)

Welcome! The best remedy to those flat roads and left out feeling is to come to WeSTOC (see separate thread). There's still plenty of time to load that baby up and head west!
I use a River Road magnetic tank bag. It has 3 sections and can be used all together or not. Lots of nice features. Check out the Tucker Rocky catalog online (pg457) www.tuckerrocky.com then check with your dealer to order one.
