. . . they ARE shipping the new shield sized between Large and Medium.

It is 3/16 inch thick in a new plastic, two inches (2") taller than stock and unfortunately, the person to whom I spoke did not know the exact width. To get the width I have to email Mark as he is not in yet, which I will do momentarily.

This shield will be the 'new' large. The 'old' large will become Xlarge - I assume. Web site has NOT been updated and as such, at present orders are taken only over the phone.

I asked, "Do you do any special order 'cut work'?" I was told, "Probably not, but you should ask Mark when you email."

She also reminded me, "We pay $60 for any competitor's shield." Didn't ask if that was cash or discount to purchase.

That's it for now. When I know the width, so shall you.

Thanks for the update Glenn. I am waiting for this size. I will be anxious to find out the exact width. I am hoping for +6W.

Hey Brian,

I emailed Mark but he has not yet replied.

The rep did allow that the width was going to be between the Medium, which is +2" wider than stock, and the 'old' Large, which is +6.5" wider than stock.

The web site is not yet updated.

Beyond that I guess we just wait . . .

I got the new Large Size CalSci windshield today and tested it to 100 Mph.

The good news ->

It is the best wind shield I have ever ridden behind. There is no back pressure and minimal turbulence for the driver. There were no strange noises at any speed from 1 to 100 Mph. The plastic is clear even on a hot Texas afternoon. I like the size of the shield ( I am 5' 7" ).

The bad news ->

The windshield had a very sharp edge on the driver left side I had to plane off so it would not damage the finish on my ST in case it did not clear. The windshield does not clear the Honda mirror wind deflectors! There is serious distortion on my windshield in the center top area about 1.5 X 5 inches. It appears the laser cutter might have heated the surrounding plastic. I noticed what appeared to be small bubbles on the edge in a couple of places

Additional Info ->

The distortion is hard to photograph as I don't have the correct type of lens on my digital camera. I was surprised CalSci sent out the windshield with the defects since it was my third windshield. I have the electric windshield and it is in the full up position for the picture. I would ride with it down about one inch from max up. The new size windshield is about 2 inches wider than stock at the bottom and about 2 inches taller.

Anthony,
As far as the Large deflector...It is common knowledge on the board that the large windshield does not clear the mirror deflectors...Its also post on Calsci's web site I believe, Sorry you missed that..I am also surprised regarding the bubblkes..First I have heard. I am thinking you would be able to return it however you have cut into...Let us know what you do.

Oh well, Based on the great input from the guys here (esp Norman PCN) I will most like wait until the In between Med and Large windshield is out. Seems liek that is the way to go.

Good luck Anthony

Hey Anthony,

Thanks for reporting - but especially - the mention of you own height. I am 5' 8" and was seriously concerned the +2" over stock height of the 'new' Large was going to be too high, even in the lowest position. Any input on that would be appreciated.

Still no email reply from Mark yet so . . . did they per chance state the - width - of this new shield on your invoice, packing list or something?

The 'bubble in the plactic'? Even though you have planed something off elsewhere on the screen it seems fair CalSci would recognize this bubble as a vision impairment defect and, replace it.

Thanks for your time.

Follows is Mark's reply to my query re the 'new' Large screen. For nuance see first post, this thread.

Bold emphasis is mine.

<Hi Glenn,

Sorry about the delay in answering. Your email got lost in my inbox.

We don't do custom shields in the summer.

Our short shield or medium shield might be just what you're looking for. Dimensions:

height width (high) width (low)
Stock 11 16 25
XL 15.5 16.5 32
L 13.5 19 27
M 12.75 17 27
S 10.5 17 27

Mark>

So apparently they do custom work/cuts - but just not in summertime. Good.

That's it folks.

Thanks Glenn. I also see that Mark has updated his site to reflect the new shield size.

So what's your take on the new size? Anybody?

Thanks.
