2008-08-16 SoCal: Rockstore and More RTE

Details: The plan is to meet at 10am at the Rockstore for breakfast. Afterwards, a ride consisting of Latigo Cyn to PCH north to 101 to 33 thru Ojai up to Cerro Noroeste Rd. and thru Frazier Park back to I-5.



Ride to the Rockstore: I'll be leaving Riverside about 6:30-7 am and heading down the 10 fwy to PCH. I'll follow PCH to Latigo Canyon to Skanan Dume to Mullholland Hwy. If anyone is interested in joining me on the ride there, just PM me....

Gonna be doing a "ForkSTOC" technical session that day at my house in Ventura, or I would love to go! Latigo is pretty rough the last few miles down at the bottom near PCH. It's overdue for a re-paving.

I arrive by taking Mulholland from Topanga Cyn. After the Rock Store I continued on Mulholland to PCH.

By the way, a short distance from the Rock Store some photog was getting photos in one of the tight corners. He had a sign out before it.

I caught one pic just as I saw the ocean for the first time on Mulholland.

Two shots are at the Mulholland/PCH intersection and Leo Carrillo beach.

After that I went PCH to Topanga, detouring up Old Topanga until it ended at Valley Circle, then return home by slab.

Ok, home safe. Damn that L.A. traffic! :( Motomac and I took to lane spliting to get thru the stop and go quagmire. We got seperated south of L.A. and I waited a bit when things opened up a bit but didn't see them...Hope he and Carol arrive home safe and sound. Had a great time and got to put some faces to names!:) Took a few pics they are in my sig below. Look alot like what Gonzo got.;) Thanks again for a great ride! Looking forward to the next one...

Sorry Don, but my reserve light was on for so long we pulled off just as the 6 sport bikes came up through the mess. Once we got south of the 91 things opened up to 80+. the little fire up pn the hillside started most of the mess and it jsut got worse at each freeway intersection. We are home safe and will post pictures tomorrow. Nice riding with you STers and those two canyon roads were super!!! The first one was almost as good as 666 (191)!!!

Alrighty!!!..........Left at 6:45 this morning and just popped into the house at 7pm. Whew......Not sure how many miles (470 miles?) but from our final lunch stop to home was 170 miles. Well, here's the pics I took although I'm really looking forward to Carole's....those beach shots should look awesome! :D And, Ed.....sorry you ended up taking a minor spill but glad you're ok and a big pat on the back for saddling up afterwards and continuing on. Way to go, sir!!

Anyway, it was a pleasure sharing a few miles and smiles with you all today. Look forward for the next one. And now..to the pictures.

Oh.....almost forgot. After all the talk of the Chippie's being out in force, myself and Beetlejuice saw something kinda weird. After we left the mexican restaurant, we headed up and exited at 138. Maybe a mile in there's 4 different Chippie's with 4 different people pulled over at 4 different spots all within 150 yards of one another. 3 of them were on the opposite side of the road but the 4th one was on our side. As myself, Beetlejuice, and a little car drove past him, he suddenly pulls out onto the road and flips on the red lights. Crap. But then he pulls over the car behind us and as we continue on......nothing. He only pulled over the car. I know Beetlejuice was keeping an eye in the rear view to see if one of his buddies was going to come after us, but nothing..........

The only CHP I saw was investigating the bike, car, van accident that had the 5 tied up from the 91 to north of LA!!! Nice pictures and had a wonderful day chasing the STs with the Wing.

OK, Carole just informed me she has downloaded over 300 photos she took of this trip and she didn't get the camera out of the trunk until we got to the Rock Store. I have looked at a few and I think you folks will be amazed at some of them. She has a lot of cropping to do and with that many pics it will take her a few hours. She will probably post them in the AM, and if I know her she will have captions. No pics of your get off Ed, rest easy.

:D I have a time machine. Since computers are usually obsolete by the time you open the box, I went 30 years into the future and got a nice brand spanking new one. Some things take some getting used to.........the holographic monitor.......the hovering tower..........the 30,000 volt taser equipped anti-theft keyboard device that I keep forgetting to shut off before typing...........:eek:

Carole and I had dinner with some of the San Diego Wanderers and they want to do an overnighter up there. It will probably happen after get back from my IA run and OH stopover next weekend and week. Ron any suggestions on a reasonable hotel?

Thanks for the offer at your place Ron, but this is for the Wanderers. I don't know how many will show up for the ride, but there were at least 5 who expressed interest last night and it hasn't been posted to their web site yet. I would say they will want to stop for the day long before Frazier Park, so it will probably Ojai.

Don...thanks for the compliments on the pictures. I am a photo nut, do the photos for my riding club, and Mac makes it easy for me to stand when we ride double. Most appreciated was your telling Mac to bring me to an ST event again! It's my second time
with him on an ST event, and I thoroughly enjoyed them both!

Ron...APPRECIATE the hospitality offer! Mac is right....will probably be more Wanderers than you can handle...but I know I would love to do more roads up there...so maybe Mac and I csn take you up on our offer sometime soon, and "IMPOSE" upon you to show us more of them!

You folks are always welcome and there are more good roads not far from here. 33/58 to the coast and Kernville, Glenville and Isabella come to mind.

Well it looks like I missed another great ride. :mad:

I can't really be to mad though because my new 2-wheel addition needed a little farkling. I did manage to get out Sunday for a little ride (see attachment). OK so maybe ST's aren't a good choice for were I was (back road between Lytle Creek and Lone Pine Hwy - Hwy 15 in background of picture) but there are a few others with dual sports out there. Don't worry the ST is only getting a minor reprieve.

For those who think the ST can be buzzy, contact me and I'll let you take the KLR for ride and then see what you say. ;)
