Ok, a bit of a different question.
Got my route planned to get to WeSTOC, basicly hit the boader at Osoyoos and take highway 20 over to Highway 9 then down as far as posible before I hit 5, then turn left at Olympia and hit the coast, next stop San Luis Obisbo. What I would like is suggestions for a return route. Would like to see Yosemite, Reno, Lake Tahoe, Crater lake, and any other interesting spots you can suggest. We just have to be crossing the boarder on the 16th to make supper at my wife's sister's place in Trail B.C. You guys know your roads, thanks in advance.

Well, you could cut north east across the valley thru Fresno, then into Yosemite. From there you could go a couple routes into to Lake Tahoe, Hwy 49 to Hwy 88 or the back way, Hwy 120 to 395 to one of the passes that would drop you into Tahoe. From Tahoe to Reno, I like Hwy 50, to 28 to 431 (back way) better scenery and no super slab. If you have MS STreets and Trips, plug some of these Hwy's in and play with the variations. Any one of those routes will be enjoyable. :D

BrianB,

I am going to be heading to Tahoe when I leave on the 9th. Looking for routes and suggestions myself. Let me know what you come up with. After Tahoe I am east bound but looks like the route there could be a good one. Yony and company are gonna have to come up with info or "no expresso for you!"

Tim,
Nope, too many great choices. I need to know more about what lies between. Leaving SLO in the late am on the 9th, how much "cool stuff" can we ride while still able to get into the area for a loop around the Lake and so on on the 10th? Is it possible to ride in either NP on the way out or is traffic on the weekend a "no go" even with school back in session? things like that. Then to make it worse, I have been on Pashnit.com and now I am like a kid in a candy store. :)

I have to look through my notes, in additon to you, there where some other folks who were interested in that leg. If BrianB wants, he can cruise with us on that leg.

Still waiting to see if Al has registered but he says he is going.....

LOL. That's the problem Chris, TOO many great choices. A loop around Lake Tahoe will take at least a couple hours, depending on traffic and road construction (Eastern Ca and Western Nevada only have two seasons, Winter and Road Construction) Which NP did you want to see? From SLO to Tahoe is 6 hours if you take the super slab, much longer on fun roads. I know it's tough, but do to the distance you're probably gonna have to force yourself to pick a few "must see's" and come up with a route. Is SWAMBO still flying into Reno on Saturday?

Hey Tom,

Sounds Good. I am strongly pushing to meet everybody I can while on the Left Coast. Tim is taking extra time off and planning to ride that leg with Al and I also.

As things begin to settle in, lets plan on where, when and what!

Hey Tim,
Take Chris here.... One heck of a ride... Have
not been on it on a bike, but have been in a cage...
From Iowa Hill rd, you can get to Donner Pass via the "old" road...
Might want to take a map or a GPS, If I remember correctly,
it took us a while to find Donner Pass road...

Ok, this looks cool, It's on the way and everything.:o: Need to balance out against time needed and other massive attractions but it definitely makes the list. Now...Putt, you need to be there to take the lead and collect the Bears.

LOL,
Chris, the only real "close" experiences I have had with bears
was in California, the one at Yosemite and one not too
far from Fairfield California.... You heard about the first one,
now, for the REST of the story...
While I was stationed out at Travis AFB, (Fairfield) my
good friend Jim (from Houma) decided we were going to
go squirrel hunting up in the mts... We got permission from
the land owner who directed us through the forest to this
big ol' stand of Sitka Spruce.. These things looked like they
were 200 ft tall... The one where we decided to sit at, and
wait for the squirrels was maybe a good 6 or 7 feet across
at the base. Jim sat at about the 1 o'clock position, and I sat
at about the 10 o'clock position... We sat for a while and pretty
soon a deer came bounding down a game trail about a dozen feet
or so from the base of our tree. About 3 minutes later, here comes
this bear cub down the path.. I reached around the tree and told Jim
not to move a muscle, to just sit there and be still... a couple of minutes
passed and Jim reaches around the tree and gently pushes me on the
shoulder, I look around the tree, and there is Jim, kinda motioning with
his eyes.. You know the "hey look at this" kinda look.. Well, I leaned around
the back side of the tree, and there was the *** end of a big ol mama
bear... Here we sit with a couple of .22's.. lotta good they are gonna do.
So we just sat still... It "seemed" like an hour passed. Sometime during that
time frame, the bear left. Now, we never heard her come up, and we
never heard her leave... Afterwards, Jim says: "You just can't imagine
how bad bear breath stinks!" Me: "What??" Jim: " Yeah, that f#$%K%
bear had it's nose stuffed in my F#$%^r$ ear!"... Mammal bear was
just making sure we were not gonna bother baby... Needless to say,
we got the heck outta there....
